Chapter Twenty~Code Green

Annabeth's POV

I screamed. Percy didn't hear me. He just stared at the sword sticking out of his stomach. Tartarus yanked out the sword and Percy screamed. A hoarse scream full of pain. It broke my heart and I started running.

Percy fell to the ground, unconscious. Tartarus raised his sword for the final blow and I was terrified. I wasn't going to make it in time. I've failed my Seaweed Brain.

Tartarus brought down the sword. I couldn't look away.

But the sword never connected. Tartarus was blown backwards and knocked to the ground. My head whirled around and I saw Tony, hovering in the air, his hand blasters smoking.

"Only I get to hurt my nephew, you bastard!" He yelled. Tartarus tried to get back up and Tony looked almost bored as he shot him down again. "Code Green!" He yelled. And waited. And waited.

He sighed. "Will someone please go tell Banner it's a Code Green?" Wanda sprinted to the infirmary to inform 'Banner'.

"What's Code Green?" Conner asked. Tony didn't even look at him when he answered, he was too busy shooting down Tartarus every time he tried to get up.

"You'll find out soon enough, trust me. Oh, and you might want to back up and give the man some space. We'll take it from here. You get him to the infirmary," he said pointing to Percy.

Percy. I started running again, Piper following me.

Wanda's POV

I ran so fast I could've been my brother. I dodged through demigods and poured on the speed. I thought I heard someone ask what Code Green was and I laughed. Oh, they'd find out.

But then my laugh died in my throat when I remembered why we needed it. Oh Percy. How much will you endure before the entities you call the Fates give you a break?

I reached the infirmary and stood panting in the doorway. Leo looked up with a frown, wondering what was going on. Between breaths I managed, "Code Green. Banner, its a Code Green."

He looked at me startled. "Why the fuck do we need a Code Green?"

"Ask Tony. Bad shit's happened. The need for our very own last resort has arrived, unfortunately. You'll see when you get out there."

He ripped off his shirt and ran out the door to the action. I groaned and turned around and followed him.

I chuckled to myself when he yelled at the top of his lungs at Tony, "Why the fuck do we need a Code Green?" He got an answer pretty soon though, because just then bear Frank went bounding for the infirmary with Percy and Annabeth on his back.

Once Bruce arrived, the campers all backed up like we told them and watched the events eagerly. Tony still hovered in the air shooting Tartarus down when he tried to get back up. "He's a stubborn bitch," he said.

Steve threw his hands up. "For gosh sake, language!" There were a few snickers from the crowd.

"I'm getting tired of this guy," Tony said from the air. "Me too," Clint agreed.

"Avengers!" Tony yelled. Then he looked at Steve.

"Assemble!" He finished and we launched into action. Bruce hulked out, Clint shot arrows, Natasha fired her guns, Tony shot from the air, Sam flew around and shot at him, Steve threw his shield, Thor pelted him with lighting and threw his hammer, and I used my telekinesis.

Explosions and fire and, well, green could be seen from miles away. And our demigod audience was sure impressed by 'Code Green'.

I looked back over to the primordial on the ground. I marched over and grabbed his hair and whispered in his ear, "Don't mess with him." I let go and his head fell back. His crimson eyes didn't look so scary anymore.

I turned to the Hulk. "Go ahead big guy." He grunted and bounded over to Tartarus and I stepped back. Hulk grabbed him by the legs and, saying his classic line, "Puny god," he started smashing him into the ground repeatedly. Tartarus groaned and burst into golden dust. The crowd cheered. Tony turned around and pumped his fists, popped open his mask and started blasting music. I sat down hard as Natasha started calming Hulk down.

We helped ferry people to the infirmary for a while and then we sat on the grass with some campers. Alex sat on my left side and Reyna on my right.

"I hope he's okay," I whispered Reyna looked at me sidelong. "He's Perseus Freakin Jackson, of course he's gonna be okay."

But I wasn't so sure. I couldn't shake the feeling that the worst wasn't over. We sat that way for a while. I looked behind me and I saw six people sitting outside the infirmary. I sighed. I wonder when we'll go back to the tower.

I feel like we haven't been there in forever. To be honest, I'm getting a little homesick. I miss Vision. Him and Fury must be having a very long talk about life.

I laid back on the ground and gazed at the sky. Four days. The war lasted four days. I felt strangely content for a little while at least. I let my eyes close and I fell asleep. I have never slept so soundly. But I still heard the message.

Annabeth's POV

I slid on me knees right next to him. He wasn't moving. His eyes were squeezed tightly shut and his face wore an expression of pain. He lay in the fetal position, curled in on himself.

"Hey," I said soothingly as I gathered him in my arms. I rested his head on my shoulder and looked at Piper. His chest moved in short, painful breaths.

"Piper." I growled, glaring at Tartarus struggling on the ground. She nodded and gestured to a few Apollo kids. They sprinted and Frank, Jason, and Hazel ran over as well, shocked out of their stupor.

His bronze breast plate dug uncomfortably into my chest. I laid my left hand on the wound, but my fingers found the bronze armor plate.

And the blood. That was there too. He was bleeding badly. Every once and a while he would whimper and his face was constantly scrunched up in pain.

With help from Jason, we tore the armor off and the Apollo campers, three to be exact, started to work. "There's not much we can do out here. We need to get him to the infirmary," a young boy said. His siblings nodded in agreement and they finished their temporary bandaging.

My mind whirled. How could we transport him without hurting him further? I scanned the faces around me, frantically forming a plan. I kept my face neutral, void of any emotions. I couldn't afford to be afraid right now.

My eyes landed on Frank. "That bear would be really handy right now," I said. He nodded in understanding and stepped back. He began to change and Jason, Piper, and Hazel helped me load him on Frank's back, me sitting right behind him.

Percy's skin was clammy and his face was pale and a sickly shade of green. Perhaps the sword was poisoned? Oh gods, I hope not.

"Go!" I yelled and Frank took off, straight towards the infirmary, the others trailing behind us.

I thought I saw Bruce running out of the infirmary yelling, "Why the fuck do we need a Code Green?" He must've been yelling at Tony.

We reached the infirmary and Magnus, Will, and some others came out to greet us, setting Percy's limp form on a stretcher.

They ran him inside and began their work.

I saw Leo rise on his elbows, concern written all over his face. "What's wrong? What happened? What's going on?" Percy was laid on a bed in a curtained off area. They told me no visitors. Not yet at least.

I had to be dragged from the infirmary kicking and screaming, all the while Leo sat on the bed, his whole right leg in a cast, and watched bewildered, wondering what the Hades was going on.

I broke free of Frank and Piper's grasps and ran back inside. I clutched at Magnus's arm and pulled him toward me. "Hey, we're doing everything we can. I'm gonna try heal him."

"No!" I yelled. He looked startled. "Why not?" He asked. "You see into people's minds right?" He nodded uneasily. "He wouldn't want you to see that. Now matter how hurt he was, he wouldn't want you to suffer the way he has. Please, try whatever you can, but don't look into his mind."

He nodded and pulled me into a hug. He kissed the top of my forehead and whispered, barely loud enough for me to hear. "He'll be okay."

And then Piper was by my side again, tugging on my arm, urging me to come outside. I obliged. She wrapped her arms around me and I finally let myself cry. Hazel sat down hard on the grass and I followed her example, bringing Piper down with me. Jason sat on my other side and rubbed my back and Frank sat next to Hazel, playing with the grass.

There was shuffling coming from behind us and I turned to see Leo, coming slowly but surely on crutches. He eased down next to Piper and we all sat like that for a while, watching the rest of the battle play out.

The Avengers sure carried out on their promise. They were currently beating Tartarus to a pulp. They bashed him down every time he tried to get up, until he eventually didn't.

Campers from both camps and recruits and hunters helped the wounded to the infirmary and brought the dead to the Big House.

We just sat there, a deep understanding seeming to pass through us. The Seven, missing an important member. For we weren't the Seven without him.

Rustling came from the woods and the words spoken next sent both a chill and an ease through my body. And I'm absolutely positive that we all heard it.

There was an echo from deep in the trees, like the Grove of Dodona was letting out a deep sigh. They seemed to say...

Don't be afraid of your fate.
