Chapter Twelve~Guard Duty

Tony's POV

My heart swelled with pride as Percy gave orders and discussed battle strategy. He's a natural born leader. He turned to me and asked for our help and there was no way in hell I could turn him down right then.

"You think we would back out now? Of course we're in!" I said with a grin. He proceeded to tell us what to do and I couldn't help but stare in awe. His confidence was unwavering and his strategy was unchallenged. He must have some experience in this area.

That thought made me sad. My nephew was only 17 and here he was leading an army to war and from what I could tell, this wasn't the first time.

After we were dismissed, I was the first one to sign the Avengers up for guard duty. "Looks like we got border patrol on the hill." I told the team. It would be weird not having the teens around 24/7. I was quite fond of them actually. I mean, sure, we're at their camp, but they won't all be around all the time. They've got enough of their own problems to deal with.

On that note, I wonder who Percy had to call? He grinned evilly when he said he had a few calls to make. He was obviously trying to act all mischievous. It was cute, really.

Oh Percy, my nephew whom I was never there for. Whom I had only met very recently. It pained me that I only knew very little about him. I thought back to when he was first in our "care." He had a bullet wound then. I remember being taken aback at his flashback problem. I used to have them all the time and it scared me that someone his age could have seen enough horrors to fuel it.

What has my nephew been through? I would like to find out a little more about him if we're all going to die in a few days.

That reminds me, I need to talk to Pepper, at least say goodbye....

I realized I was staring at the wall when Clint nudged me. "You're staring at the wall." He said. "Thank you for informing me, Captain Obvious." I answered sarcastically.

He just rolled his eyes and pushed me out the door.

Into the sunlight(or Apollolight idk) I could finally take in the beauty of the camp. There were Greek temples and cabins and all sorts of activities. I could've sworn the rock wall was in fire.

I took Cap, Nat, and Clint to the hill where we were supposed to be guarding against monsters.

A few campers joined us by the big pine tree and we stood in awkward silence for half an hour it seemed.

Finally the girl spoke. She wore a camo jacket and camp shirt with a bandana in her hair. Her hand was under her chin and she looked to be studying us.

"I thought you guys would be cooler." She said very bluntly. "Ok then?" I answered slightly offended.

Two other guys that were obviously brothers were talking quietly and occasionally pointed at us and laughing. It made me slightly nervous.

Then the older of the two brought his wrist to his face to study it. "This is a cool watch." He said. His brother leaned over. "Yeah its got Iron Man on it."

I froze. I quickly checked my wrist and sure enough my watch was gone. "H-how?" I asked. How in earth did these two even do that?

"Oh yeah," the younger one said. "And this shield looks totally legit."

I looked over at that and saw he was holding an exact replica of Cap's shield. Cap paled and checked his shoulder strap, which was empty.

The girl just shook her head. "My name's Clarisse, daughter if Ares. That's Travis and Conner Stoll, sons of Hermes. Always keep a hand on your wallet."

"What, this wallet?" Conner said looking confused as he pulled my wallet out of his pocket. "How'd you get that?" I asked.

"Oh this? I picked this up hours ago."

Travis took out a hand gun that looked suspiciously like Natasha's and started shooting at Conner.

I screamed. Conner pulled up the shield and blocked the shots and then they just started laughing at our faces. They gave us back our stuff and we started a friendly conversation.

After a couple more minutes, the first signs of trouble showed. "Hellhounds." Clarisse muttered as she went to work. There was a pack of about 12 of them, and they were taken care of soon enough.

Not much else happened after that.

??? POV

I stood on the balcony over looking the city in the warm afternoon air. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. The sun felt good on my skin. I could stand here forever.

Just then my sister walked next to me by the railing and leaned against it. She didn't say anything rude, which surprised me. She just kept silent and looked over the city like I had been doing.

The silence was shattered by my cell phone. I jumped and pulled it out of my pocket. I fumbled it and almost dropped it to the ground far below.

I didn't recognize the caller I.D. But I answered it anyway. And a good thing I did, because the voice brought a smile to my face.

"Hey, bro, you got any plans?" He asked.

"Not that I can think of. Zia and I were gonna catch a movie later, but other than that, no."

"Great so I was wondering if you would like to join the war effort?" Percy asked, holding his breath.

"Um...what? War effort?" I asked. Sadie gave me a strange look like who the heck are you talking too?

"Well, you see, Tartarus is mad at me again and he's sending in a ginormous army pretty soon and we kinda need reinforcements. It's totally up to you, but if you could help, it would be greatly appreciated."

"You want to help the demigods go to war?" I asked Sadie. She shrugged. "Brother dear, it's getting quite boring here. I could use a change of scenery."

I turned my attention back to the phone call. "We're in." I said. "Okay awesome. Show up sometime tomorrow. I gotta go call my girlfriend's dead cousin. See ya." He hung up and I went inside to inform the others of the plan.

Percy's POV

"YES!" I hollered after I hung up the phone. We've got more help. Now for the dead people. Sorry, Norse dead people. There. That's better.

I dialed the number Annabeth gave me on the old phone in Chiron's office. I would've just used mine, but calling people from our world is one thing. Calling people from other worlds is a completely different story. This is the only phone that offered enough protection.

The phone rang for a total of thirty seconds before someone picked up. "Hello?" A very grumpy and bored voice said.

"Um, hi? I'm Percy, is this Hunding?" "Yes, what do you want?" He asked. "Could I please speak to Magnus Chase?" "Augh. Everyone wants to talk to him. Magnus this, Magnus that. No one ever wants to talk to me."

The line went on hold and I waited for about five minutes. Then the line beeped again and I heard yelling. Than someone picked up the phone.

"Hi, sorry, I was playing chess to the death. Who is this?" Magnus asked.

"It's Percy Jackson."

"Ohhh. Hi Percy. What do you need?"

"A friend?" I asked hopefully. Magnus snorted. "What do you need Percy." He asked again.

"Um... well you see, there's this big baddy that is really really mad at me. He's got this big ass army that's coming to kill us all in a few days so if you need a break and want to kill things other than your friends, I'm all ears."

I could feel him considering. He took the phone away from his mouth and yelled at someone. It was a little muffled, but I could make out most of it.

"Hey babe! What do you think? Should we go help Percy and Annabeth in a war?" He waited for a reply and then turned his attention back to me. "Sure Perce. When do you want us there? You've got all of Floor 19 plus a dwarf, an elf, and a Valkyrie at your disposal."

I smiled. "Tomorrow would be good. Thanks guys I really appreciate it."

"No prob— hey! Alex put Halfborn's head back- you know what? Never mind. Bye Percy." He said hanging up. Okay then.

I walked out of the Big House and ran into Tony. "Hey, you don't steal stuff do you?" He asked. "Um no, oh wait, let me guess. The Stolls?"

He nodded. I just laughed. "You'll get used to them. Hey, do you want me to show you my favorite spot?"

He shrugged. I led him to my spot on the beach. The gentle breeze blew across the waves, bringing the scent of sea water closer. I breathed it in and took off my shoes. I waded into the waves. After standing there for a few moments I walked back over to Tony and sat next to him on the sand.

He looked over at me with an expression of respect. "You been doing this awhile kid?" He asked me. I didn't quite know what he was talking about so I just stared at him blankly.

He chuckled and tried again. "I mean this whole war thing. This isn't your first time."

I shook my head, my face darkening. He took that as a yes. "Well your damn well good at it." He said. I guessed that was probably the closest thing he'd get to a compliment.

"Yeah well, hey, why'd you abandon my mom?" I asked, getting completely off topic.

He looked startled by the question. "I-I guess I forgot about her. I got all caught up in Stark industries and I didn't even know she had had a child or anything. If I'd have known, I definitely would've helped out a little." He said talking quickly.

"It's okay, I understand." I said slowly, calculating my words. "Things wouldn't have turned out the same if you did. And I'm happy with the way things turned out. Or at least I was until you FLING THIS AT ME!" I screamed at the sky, no longer taking to Tony.

"Whoa whoa whoa." Tony said. "Calm down. We can do this okay? Everything's gonna be okay." He patted me on the back and stood up.

"Hey, where are you going?" I asked. "I'm gonna go say goodbye to Pepper just in case...." he trailed off. That made me feel even more guilty. I started to feel like calling in the extra help hadn't been such a great idea. I was just putting more people in danger.

Tony seemed to understand what I was thinking. "Hey don't worry about it. It was our choice, okay? If anything happens, just know that it is not your fault." And with that, he took off, leaving me with my thoughts.

Jason's POV

I sat hand in hand with Piper on the roof of the Zeus cabin. We had been sitting up here for awhile trying to escape the chaos of the camp below.

Neither of us had said anything in a long while. I just gripped her hand tightly and tried to take deep breaths. The truth is? I was scared. I've faced Gaea before and all her giants, but Tartarus was a different story. He'd have an endless amount of monsters.

I remember Percy's description of the primordial. Giant, purple skinned deity with ripped muscles. But his face was the hardest to imagine. Percy said it swirled like the void itself and seemed to suck everything else into it. And those crimson eyes I had seen on Tony, were his.

My stomach flipped in anticipation. I didn't want to go to war again. Not yet. But the thought of anyone hurting my friends made me angry. I knew well enough that Tartarus wouldn't stop until we were all dead, but I also knew he had it in for Percy and Annabeth.

He'd at least want to finish those two off if anything. I swallowed the bile rising in my throat and squeezed Piper's hand tighter, giving her a smile that we both knew was fake.

Hello people! Sorry it took so long to write, but I needed to take a little brake and read from old fashioned things called books. I've been spending way to much time on Wattpad lately. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed and remember to vote and comment. Love ya demigods:)
