Chapter Seventeen~Disaster Strikes. Again. And Again.
Magnus's POV
I took a deep breath as I prepared to heal Leo Valdez. All this Frey power stuff has been really draining me.
Percy lay on the next bed over, already asleep. I rested my hands on Leo's leg, one on his thigh and one on his shin. He squirmed under my touch.
I wonder what I will see when I enter his mind. Hopefully nothing too scarring. Though these people continue to amaze me.
My hands started to glow and I closed my eyes.
I saw Leo when he was about four years old, drawing a picture of a ship with an older woman. The drawing got snatched away by the wind and he started to cry. The lady said something to him and he lit his hands on fire, searing his hand prints deep into the wood of the table.
The scene shifted and Leo was about eight years old. He was in a machine shop with a woman that was obviously his mother. She was laughing at something he said while cleaning up for the day.
Leo kept on cracking jokes and making his mother smile. I couldn't help but smile to myself.
The pair made there way to the entry way when the woman patted her pockets. "I forgot the keys." She seemed to say. So Leo waited for his mother.
Then the door she walked through slammed shut. Leo was scared and he ran to it and started twisting the knob. I got a sick feeling in my stomach. This isn't going to end well.
Then a lady rose from the floor of the workshop. She smiled but it held no warmth. Her eyes were closed like she was sleeping and her dress churned like freshly tilled earth.
She slowly made her way to Leo who looked absolutely terrified. Leo said something bravely to the woman and she laughed.
The woman, I realized, must be Gaea. Leo got mad at whatever Gaea said and lit his hands ablaze. He threw the fire at her, but she just melted back into the earth.
The scene changed again and I saw a firefighter walking to an ambulance with Leo over his shoulder. Leo was kicking and screaming his mom's name. I didn't want to watch anymore.
Thankfully, the scene changed yet again. I saw an older Leo with Piper and Jason on a catwalk over what looked like the Grand Canyon. There was a satyr there too, and some crazy wind people.
I saw Leo working hard on a ship. He didn't take his eyes off his work, even when other campers came and went. I felt what Leo felt. He felt alone, but he wasn't going to admit it. So instead he was going to joke and act like everything was okay.
I saw Leo climbing the rope ladder of that same ship over a great Roman city. Below him was a slightly older, very scrawny blond boy. They toured the ship and then Leo went to the helm and started firing in the camp. Soon Percy came and tackled him to the deck.
I saw Leo in an underground cave working furiously on a bronze basketball. Hazel and Frank were unconscious on the ground and two robot thingies were threatening him, but he ignored them and broke open a fortune cookie.
I saw Leo in a huge cavern, making measurements of a giant statue with his fingers. The statue tilted and he yelled orders to the others. Frank took him to the ship and Leo worked to get the statue secure.
Hazel and Nico returned to the ship and Jason and Frank followed. There was no Percy and Annabeth. Leo grew frantic. Where were his friends.
I saw Leo jumping and running through a maze with Hazel.
I saw Leo working within the framework of his ship, avoiding the presence of his friends.
I saw Leo on the ship with a man that must've been Hephaestus. They were trying to keep the ship aloft and shoot at the giants below at the same time.
I saw Leo tell his friends to leave. To abandon ship. His ship. He had a plan, he said.
I saw Leo on a bronze dragon, grabbing Gaea and lifting her high in the sky.
I saw Leo on fire, telling Jason and Piper he loved them. I saw the giant explosion. I saw an island with a girl waiting for him. I saw many more scenes.
I saw too much. I pulled my hands away and stumbled to the ground. Leo sighed contentedly and fell into a pleasant sleep.
I stood and my legs shook with exhaustion. I looked at Leo a little differently now. That funny guy he always pretends to be is just a facade. It's a mask to hide all the pain. But I admire him. I admire who he is and what he's become.
Time and time again he's been faced with the impossible, but he doesn't let anything get him down. But he loves being told something's impossible. He sees it as a challenge. And he's always got a plan or some crazy idea. And they almost always work in some bizarre way no one ever expected. He's always one step ahead of everyone else. Well, except the giant, I guess.
I sighed and began wrapping his leg in a cast. I healed the hairline fractures and I set the bones but I'm afraid that's all I can do.

Alex's POV
Hello, my pronouns for today are she and her, thank you very much.
And this Dakota character is really starting to piss me off. I mean, we're in the middle of a battle and he's getting drunk on kool aid. Sam and TJ were walking on either side of me as the son of Bacchus continued to get lucky shots at the odd monster.
"We should bring him to the infirmary for a break. He's gonna hurt himself soon." Samirah whispers in my ear.
"I'll take him." Thalia sighed. She marched off with Dakota in tow. TJ began loading his bayonet. It was quite the impressive feat.
As he marched, he took out the cleaning rod, ran it down the barrel, and poured in some gun powder. He then dropped a celestial bronze ball down the barrel, adjusted the gun, and shot. All in about ten seconds.
He repeated and repeated the process. I changed from a lion to a rhino to a wolf and in between transformations, I would take out my enchanted garrote and behead monsters left and right.
Sam flew around and shot monsters with her Valkyrie spear and other powers. She would turn invisible with her hijab and take monsters by surprise.
We were a force to be reckoned with. But I froze when I heard the scream. I looked around frantically. It sounded like a small child. The scream didn't come from our little group so I ventured a bit farther.
What I saw chilled my blood. The Minotaur stood holding an eight year old kid against a tree the poor boy had the thing's axe sticking out of his midsection.
I could tell by the faraway look in the kid's eyes that he was already dead. "Hey beef-stick! Pick on someone your own size!" I began to change until I was a bull half he size of the Minotaur. I roared and charged him angrily. He turned away from the kid who was left pinned to the tree by the axe, and charged to meet me.
Just before contact, I changed back into me and I vaulted to his back. I pulled out my garrote and strung it around his neck. He bucked frantically and tried to throw me off. But I held on tight.
I pulled tighter. "Come on meat head. Die already!" I squeezed my thighs tighter around his neck to get a better grip, preparing for the big finale. I adjusted my grip on the garrote and vaulted off of him in a backward flip, taking his head with me.
He exploded into gold dust and I ran to the kid on the tree. I pulled out the axe and he fell onto me, deadweight.
I kneeled in the ground and turned him over so I could look him in the eyes. His beautiful brown eyes. I ran my fingers through his curly brown hair and a lump formed in my throat. I suddenly found it very hard to breathe. He was just a kid. No more than eight years old.
I fingered the wound in his chest, the axe was so big, it covered his chest and his upper torso. My eyes found a bracklet on his wrist. It had his name in cursive letters. Harley.
I finally let myself sob as I reached out a hand to his face. I hesitated and then took two fingers and gently closed his eyes.
I stood and cradled him in my arms. Sam and TJ ran up to me. "Oh my gods." Sam said, covering her mouth with her hand.
"Cover me while I bring him to the Big House." My voice sounded hoarse and congested.
The two complied and I made my way to the big blue house on the horizon. Once there, TJ opened up the door and motioned for me to enter. I silently found a room with four beds, three of them full. I gently laid poor Harley on the furthermost bed and smoothed his hair back. I ran outside quickly and found a single flower amidst all the violence and blood.
I picked it and walked back inside. It was a daisy. A single, beautiful daisy, for non other than Harley. I was sure the gods put it there just for him.
I caressed his cheek and opened his palm, working the flower stem into his hand. When I was finished, I gently kissed his forehead and when I couldn't bear being in there any longer, we left.

Sadie's POV
Hazel, Walt, and I fought for hours before anything somewhat eventful happened. But, you know, in my world eventful hardly ever means good.
The manticore(or so I've heard) decided he wanted to torment us. Yay us, we're so lucky.
He was shooting poisonous spikes everywhere and whatnot when he shot one at Hazel, who's back was turned. "Hazel!" I yelled. She turned to look, which was probably the worst thing she could've done.
Because the thorn hit her right in the eye. I got sick. Right there in the middle of the battle field. I threw up, emptying my stomach of the little food I'd had that morning.
Hazel fell to the ground and screamed. A horrible, blood curdling scream that sent chills up my spine. Blood gushed down her face as she grasped at her eye, a long, thin spike sticking out. Again I proceeded to upchuck.
Carter, bless him, came to the rescue. He managed to sneak up behind the monster and kill him with a spell. "Stahp!" He yelled. I watched as the manticore split in two and disintegrated into golden dust.
The three of us ran to Hazel who was still screaming on her hands and knees. "No wonder. The poison causes pain." Walt says. I slap him. "Not the time." I grumble.
"Hazel, can you hear me?" "It hurts." She moans. "I know, I know. Just...hold on."
"Carter, dear, would you mind helping me to get Hazel here through the Duat to the infirmary?" He nodded in understanding and helped me form a doorway where the three of us helped Hazel to her feet and into the Duat, where she stumbled, half blind. We emerged in the infirmary and I yelled for help.
Will instantly came and took her from us, leading her to a bed beside Leo, who I just noticed had his entire right leg in a cast. He sat up on his elbows and looked over at her in concern. "Hazel?" He asked. She was still screaming though.
Will called for some help from the other Apollo campers and they set to work on getting the thorn out of her left eyeball.
After ten agonizing minutes the thorn was out. Hazel lay on the bed, gauze around her eye, panting.
I walked over and squeezed her hand. "We have to go. We'll hopefully check in later. Bye Hazel."
She nodded and turned to talk to Leo. Then, remembering something, she turned back to me. "Sadie? Can you find Frank and send him over here please?" She said, her lip quivering. I nodded and we left to look for Frank, taking out as many monsters as possible on the way.
