Chapter Nine~Rock Solid

Percy's POV

Thor grabbed Piper and I and transported to Asgard. I've traveled via god before, but it still left me queasy. Once the world stopped spinning, I was able to take in my surroundings. We stood in a bronze atrium and in front of us stood a man with dark skin, startlingly orange eyes, and golden armor.

"Welcome back, Thor." He said in an extremely deep voice.

Thor nodded his greeting and led us through Asgard. My breath caught in my through. It was breathtakingly beautiful. The city of the Norse gods was golden and bronze with defined shapes and glittering sea.

We walked across the bifrost, a glittering rainbow bridge. I took in my surroundings and sure it was beautiful, but it's nowhere near as pretty as Mount Olympus, which my Wise Girl created.

Thor led us to the throne room where Odin sat waiting. "Thor, why have you returned so soon?"

"Medusa of Greek Mythology has turned some of our members to stone and we seek approval to gather an antidote." Thor boomed.

Odin nodded and soon we were on our way. "We must climb the World Tree, Yggdrasil, and find the Fountain of Knowledge." Thor stated as we made our way through Asgard. We came upon the biggest tree I have ever seen. It was freakin HUGE!

All I wanted to do is climb it. I grinned evilly and Piper smacked me. "We are not going to climb that thing."

"WE ARE GOING TO CLIMB THAT THING!" Thor announced proudly. Piper sighed in defeat. Looking at the tree I thought of Thalia's tree. Then I thought of an olive tree, and Athena, and Athena's children. Then I thought of Annabeth and I instantly lost the want to climb a tree.

What if we couldn't find the cure? What if she and the others stayed rock solid forever? No, I count think like that. Failing is not an option. My Wise Girl needs me. I'm doing this for her.

I took a deep breath and followed Piper and Thor up the world tree.

We climbed for what seemed like hours. I soon felt a familiar tug in my gut. "There's water that way." I said pointing to my left. Something felt different about this water though. It definitely wasn't normal.

Thor nodded and led us the way I suggested. Soon, the sound of a flowing fountain was all I could here. I heard a soft male voice humming and I had the sudden urge to read a book.

I wanted to know things. I was suddenly very thirsty and I felt the need to take a drink of the water now in front of me.

Looking at Piper, I knew she felt it too. Only Thor seemed unaffected. I then realized that the humming was coming from a severed head floating in the fountain. I yelped in surprise and backed away quickly. The fountain didn't look as appetizing as before.

"Oh, Mímir, would you grant us permission to take a bottle of the holy water from the Fountain of Knowledge?"

The head in the water opened his eyes and scowled at Thor. "No, you may not take the water," he drawled, "I require payment."

Ah nards. Always payment. "What kind of payment?" I asked, my hand in my pocket clutching Riptide.

"Only the worst kind. I demanded an eye from Odin when he wished to drink from my fountain."

"Mímir, we don't want to drink from your fountain. We only want a bottle to heal some people." Piper spoke, laying on the charmspeak.

I held my breath while Mímir considered. He then shook his head(which, mind you, looked like he was having a seizure) and said, "No, that won't do. I require payment."

I sighed. Just our luck. I don't even care about the payment. I will do anything for Annabeth, or any of my friends. Just name your price.

"What do you want?" I asked. "Ah," he said, his eyes fixating on my face, "A son of Poseidon seeking help from a Norse deity. How ironic. To answer your question, what I want from you is simple. I want your blood."

Piper's POV

"No! Percy you can't!" I yelled at him immediately after Mímir made that ridiculous proposition.

Percy looked at me with desperation shining in his eyes. He didn't want to do this, but he felt like he needed to. I knew he would always feel like he needed to do everything to protect his friends, but he needs to realize that we can carry some of the weight, too. He doesn't have to carry the burden on his own.

But then I also knew that he had to do this. Mímir requires payment, and he won't let us have the fountain water without it being fulfilled.

Percy and I had an intense conversation with our eyes. I eventually grudgingly agreed and he smiled reassuringly at me. His eyes! How does Annabeth ever win an argument? They look like a baby seal that needs help!

Percy turned back to the severed head in the fountain and asked, "How much do you want?"

Mímir smiled to himself. Oh boy. "How much water do you need?"

Percy looked to Thor to answer the question. He held up a fairly large bottle about the size of his hammer. "Only enough to fill the bottle."

"I will need exactly the amount of blood that can fit into that container. The blood must equal the water you take."

Percy looked a little sick, but he nodded. "Why him? Why not me or Thor?" I asked.

"He has the sea in his veins. And he has suffered in the most. He will make the best sacrifice." Mímir answered smugly.

"Heard that before." Percy muttered, rolling up his sleeves. Mímir looked to Thor and signaled to fill up the bottle. Thor nervously filled it half way and looked at Percy in worry.

He was taking deep breaths, watching the water in the fountain. "Go ahead. Fill it. Take what you need, I'll be fine."

Thor obviously didn't like it, but he filled the bottle the rest of the way. He took it out of the fountain and gave me a silent message, but the gist of it was clear enough. Maybe if we steal it...

The thought was quickly dismissed as a chain wrapped itself around the bottle, holding it in place.

"The restrains will disappear when the quota has been filled. You may begin Perseus Jackson." Mímir said.

Percy took a deep breath and pulled out Riptide. He dragged the edge along his left arm, making a long cut, only wincing slightly. He held his arm over the Fountain and the blood dripped out slowly.

He narrowed his eyes in concentration and his eyebrows scrunched together. The veins in his arm became more noticeable as they filled with blood. More and more of the crimson substance pooled on his arm and started to drip. He tilted his arm and the blood poured from the wound much faster than it should.

I realized with a start that he was controlling the water in his blood to make it move faster so he only had to cut himself once. I shuddered at the thought. At least it was proving affective.

After five more minutes of this, the amount was not enough. Percy started to sway, and I noticed too late that his face was a little too pale.

I ran up and steadied him before he could fall over. He leaned heavily into me and his eyes were closed but I knew he wasn't unconscious yet.

His arm shook as he held it out over the Fountain of Youth. Thor looked very guilty and sick, like he had a choice to not fill the bottle.

I turned my attention back to Percy. I need to keep him awake. "Percy, wake up." I said with a steely determination. He strained against my charmspeak, but eventually forced his eyes open.

His beautiful sea green irises were bloodshot and weary. His lip quivered and beads of perspiration glistened on his forehead.

"How much longer?" I asked Mímir. "Almost." I could practically hear his smile.

"Hear that Perce? Almost there. Just a little longer." I spoke to him with love and worry. I let my voice fill with fear. I embraced all the different emotions demanding my attention.

Percy and I have a strange friendship. He's like my big brother. Though my heart belongs to Jason, I still love him to death. I love all my friends. I couldn't stand it if anything happened to any of them.

We need Percy to stay strong so we can get the cure and save our friends. To save Jason. And Leo and Annabeth of course.

Percy groaned in pain and I was jerked back to the present. His eyes had started to close again when there was a loud ding. The quota was filled and I pulled Percy away from the fountain. He promptly collapsed to his knees.

I grabbed his arm and examined the wound. It was still bleeding at a frightening pace. I looked up at Percy, but he slumped forward, falling into me. The blood still came. It was like he didn't have the energy to stop it.

It was like the joystick got stuck on drive and he couldn't put it in park. You would think that if he passed out it would automatically stop, but I guess that isn't the case.

I nudged him forward and slapped him right across the face. No response. I slapped him again and he groaned.

"Percy, you need to stop the blood."

He looked down at his arm and frowned as if it were an annoying Leo. It was turning purple. He bit his lip and the bleeding slowed to a normal pace. I sighed in relief and called to Thor who was watching with worry.

"Grab some ambrosia and the first aid kit from my bag." I didn't realize I was charmspeaking until I saw him walking like a robot and rummaging through my backpack.

He pulled out the first aid kit and handed it to me. Percy was swaying, trying very hard to stay conscious. His eyes were bloodshot and there were bags under his eyes.

I unwrapped some ambrosia and forced it into his mouth. He swallowed with some trouble and held out his arm for me to continue.

I pulled out the canteen of nectar and poured it over his wound and cleaned it out. I threaded a needle and started to stitch he deep cut back together.

His whole forearm was bruised black and blue. I wrapped it in gauze and stood, pulling him to his feet.

He looked about ready to collapse, and I couldn't blame him. But we got the water from the Fountain. Now we need to head to Valhalla. I didn't see how Percy would climb the tree with is arm and his obvious exhaustion, but Thor solved that problem.

He thundered over and flung Percy over his shoulder. The latter did not protest. In fact, he was already snoring. I chuckled to myself as we climbed Yddrasil. We climbed for about an hour before deciding to rest.

We stopped on a sizable bough and Thor propped Percy up against the trunk. I laid down along the branch and watched as Thor took first watch, conversing with the odd animal that would pass by. I soon fell into a dreamless sleep.

Bruce's POV

I don't know what to do. I've done countless tests on Steve and the other petrified demigods, but I've gotten nowhere. I'd been told countless times that there was no other way to bring them back besides what Percy, Thor and Piper were doing by the demigods.

Hazel sat by the window, looking out at the city with the sunset in the distance. Frank was conversing in low tones with Clint about archery. They were both sitting on a ledge high above the living room. Tony was messing with some kind of contraption while sitting on the couch.

Next to him was Natasha pretending to watch whatever was on the TV. Wanda and Sam were having a heated discussion about who won Rock Paper Scissors when a boy appeared out of the shadows.

Hazel jumped up and tackled him in a hug. She stepped back and I noticed he was holding the hand of a girl. He quickly let go of her hand and scanned the room.

The boy had dark black hair and dark, hard eyes that held lots of sadness. His skin was unnaturally pale and he twisted a skull ring on his finger. He looked to be only around 14 and he wore all black.

The girl behind him had a different vibe. She looked about 16 with a defiant looking face covered in freckles. Her electric blue eyes jumped around the room as if challenging anyone to cross her. She wore a tiara in her hair which greatly conflicted with her Death to Barbie T-shirt and ripped black jeans. She also wore black combat boots and a silver parka.

Frank flew down from the rafters and landed to greet the newcomers. Tony even looked up from his work. "Who are you?" I managed to ask.

The girl snapped back, "Why should I tell you that? You kidnapped our friends. You kidnapped my baby brother!"

Clint held up a 'time-out', "First of all, they aren't our prisoners anymore, and second, I don't recall us kidnapping a baby."

The girl scoffed. "Oh he only acts like one. He's sixteen. His name's Jason." I took a sharp intake of breathe. My eyes drifted to the next room over, where her brother was standing as a statue.

I never would've pinned them for siblings. The only thing they have in common is their eyes. I wonder if these kids are also demigods?

The boy pushed past Hazel who was fussing over him. "We came because I sensed a strong aura of near death. From several sources. What happened?"

Sam crossed his arms. "I think you need to tell us who you are and how you know these people first. Are you Demigods too?"

The boy gasped. "How did you—"

"We figured it out ourselves. We are on good terms with your friends." Wanda said with her mesmerizing accent.

The two newcomers headed to the living room to discuss who, or what they are.

Tony's POV

"So you're partly immortal, and you can raise the dead." I said pointing to each of them in turn.

Thalia sighed. "That's all you got from that?"

I rolled my eyes. Yeah that's right. I can be dramatic too. I just hope I'm not the poor soul to break the news to them.

"So where's everyone else?" Nico asked his sister Hazel. "Well..." she looked at me for help. Dang it.

"Well, um, there was a, um, fight in Central Park..." "Yes?" Nico asked, clearly concerned.

"Well, Medusa was leading them. She ah, petrified a number of our team."

Him and Thalia jumped up. They ran for the far room and jiggled the locked door handle. I made sure there was top notch security to keep he statues safe until our friends returned from the quest.

I pushed to the front of the crowd and unlocked the door. Thalia broke through first and gasped. She brought a hand to her mouth and tears glistened in the corners of her eyes, to which she furiously wiped them away.

She first walked to Jason and caressed his face. Then she regarded Leo and shook her head and laughed at his terrified expression. Her voice held no amusement, though. She then moved on to Annabeth. "How did this happen?" She croaked.

"Medusa caught them by surprise. She's dead now and..." I was interrupted by Nico.

"Where's Percy and Piper?" He asked.

"They're on a quest with Thor to get an antidote." Hazel said gently, placing a hand on his arm. "Everything will be okay."

"No that's not it. The feeling of near death? It's no longer coming from here. But I can still feel it. Something's happening."

Frank and Hazel shared a look of concern. "What do you mean?" Frank asked. "It's-it's far away. Let's just hope they can finish the quest."

Yeah, I agree with Steve. Definitely weird. I think we have rock-telepathy or something. Peace out Demigods. Leo out.

Piper's POV

I awoke to sunlight filtering in through the trees branches. Percy was shaking my shoulder with his right hand. His left was held tightly to his chest. The bags under his eyes had almost disappeared. Thor was already raring to go.

I yawned and stretched and got up. I grabbed a granola bar from my bag and we headed for Valhalla.

On the way, Thor's image started to flicker. It changed from the blond man in fancy armor to a slightly shorter, red haired version.

"Sorry friends. This is how the Norse demigods see me. It is almost like your gods and their split personalities. This manifestation likes to fart quite frequently, so excuse the drift."

He let one rip and I gagged. Percy made a face and waved his hand in front of his face. I noticed he winced at the movement, probably jolting his arm.

"Here." I said, stopping to rummage through my bag. I took out a long clothe and fashioned it into a sling. I helped him slip it over his head and he looked a lot more comfortable after that.

After another half hour we stumbled upon a break in the branches. Down below there was a great dining hall with lots and lots of people joking around and eating. The food looked a little questionable and the drinks a little strong.

What worried me the most was the amount of killing going on. I sighed and we climbed down the tree, Thor once again carrying Percy, though this time the god looked a little different then the time before.

All talking died down as the dead warriors recognized Thor.

"Percy?" A voice called out. A young boy of about 16 made his way through the crowds followed by a girl with green hair and heterochromic eyes. The boy had shoulder length blond hair and startlingly gray eyes, just like Annabeth's.

The girl was wearing pink skinny jeans and a green 'Hotel Valhalla' hoodie. As I studied her more closely, I found that I couldn't tell if she was a she or a he.

I could tell Percy recognized them by the smile he gave the pair. "Magnus, Alex. How're you guys doing?" He asked.

"Oh, good, good. Just the usual 'to the death' daily activities. Hey, where's Annabeth?" Magnus asked.

I was puzzled at that question. Why would this Magnus person wonder where Annabeth was? And why would he just assume that she should be with Percy? Come to think about it, how does Magnus know Percy?

Thor leaned close to me and whispered, "Magnus Chase is Annabeth's cousin."

"Ahh." I nodded. That makes sense. I remember Annabeth mentioning a cousin in Boston. But why is he dead?

Percy looked fairly busy trying to avoid the question aimed at him.

"Oh, she's taking a break. I mean she needs a break. I mean she needs to break. I mean she's a little stiff at the moment. She needs to loosen up. She's busy posing. She looks like an Ancient Greek Statue, she's so beautiful. She's a rock solid girlfriend that's for sure..."

I saved Percy from any more horrible rock puns.

"She's currently petrified. She's literally a stone statue." I said flatly.

Magnus gaped at me and then Percy and then me again.

He closed his mouth and cleared his throat. He turned back to Percy. "Well you could've just said that."

Percy just blushed and looked at his feet.

"We're just passing through. We need mead from Heidrun, the goat that provides the mild that is brewed into mead." I stated diplomatically.

"And why would you need that?" Alex asked.

"It's for an antidote to heal our petrified friends."

She nodded, seemingly satisfied. I'm going with she. She feels female. Thor came back with a canteen of the mead.

"Well, we better get going. See ya Magnus, Alex. Take care." Percy waved as we climbed back up the world tree

(Almost done I promise)

We emerged from the tree back in 'Midgard'. From the looks of it we were somewhere in Boston. Thor grabbed our hands and the world was turned upside down. When I could stand without wanting to puke, I noticed we were in a place that was all too familiar.

We stood in the streets of Rome, with the Nymphaeum directly in front of us. Percy visibly shuddered and I think I did too. Hopefully we were in better terms with the Nymphs now.

I took a deep breath and lead our trio down the steps.

Thor, who was now back to normal, traced his fingers across the wall. Percy wasn't looking too good. I don't know if it was the godly jump or the memories of this place that had reinforced his sickness, but either sounded like a valid reason.

We jumped down off the last stepped and Percy once again stood in the middle of the room. Almost instantly the sound of he ocean bounced around the space.

Light filtered across the stones, making a mirage that looked like water. The niches on the wall glowed and I pushed Percy behind me. Hagno, the first of the nine nymphs, appeared on the middle niche, just like last time.

Except this time she was a beautiful young nymph, just how we left her. She smiled in greeting at us.

"So you have returned." She said smiling warmly.

"Yes. Would you be ever so kind as to lend us some of the fresh water from your nymphaeum?" I asked hopefully.

Her eyes softened. "Why Of course. Anything for the demigods that returned to me my freedom."

The Nymphaeum began to fill with water, but this time I wasn't scared. I pulled out an empty flask and filled it to the brim with the sparkling water.

"Thank you." I said bowing deeply. Thor followed my example and I had to elbow Percy, who was daydreaming and not paying attention.

The Nymph chuckled and the water drained. She smiled at us again and disappeared.

"I turned triumphantly to my friends. "We did it! We got all the ingredients!" I beamed, holding up the flask. Thor gave a hearty laugh and grabbed our hands.

The world began to spin and we were transported to New York City.
