Chapter Eigteen~War Sucks, I'm Tired.
Carter's POV
That was very disturbing. We left Hazel in the infirmary with Leo to go find Frank.
That was just thoroughly disgusting. My heart went out to Sadie when she started retching. I wanted to too, but I haven't eaten in awhile, so I had nothing to get rid of.
I led our little group of three and I swung my khopesh in a wide arc in front of me, disintegrating some monsters. Gods, this army is never ending.
We stumbled across Annabeth and Piper. "Have you guys seen Frank?" They exchanged a look. "No, why?" Annabeth said.
"It's really kinda very urgent that we find him." I said nervously while scanning the battle field. "Why?" Piper repeated.
"It's Hazel." Sadie said, cutting right to the chase. "What's wrong with Hazel?" Annabeth said, worry evident in her voice. "She got shot in the eye with a manticore thorn. She wants Frank."
They nodded and helped us look. We found him soon enough. He was just chilling under a gigantic drakon. No biggie. I don't know what was wrong with him, but he was still just normal Frank. He looked to be concentrating, but nothing was happening.
Annabeth didn't hesitate. She jumped onto the back on the drakon and plunged her knife into a kink in its scales. The drakon thrashed around for a while, backing off Frank, and then disintegrated.
Piper ran to go help him up. "Why didn't you transform?" Sadie asked. "I freaked, okay? It happens sometimes."
Then Sadie turned serious. "Frank, we need you to come with us." He looked puzzled. "What? Why?"
"Hazel...needs you." I said. His eyebrows scrunched together, but he followed us anyway.
Lighting flashed in the distance. Annabeth studied it. "I'm gonna go find Percy. That bolt was Jason's and when there's a Jason, there's a Percy." And with that she took off, Piper in tow.
So we led Frank to the infirmary. When we got to the door I spread my arms out in front of it, blocking him from entering.
"Just going to warn you, it's not pretty." I could tell he was getting worried now, if he wasn't already.
He stepped forward, unceremoniously shoved me aside, and entered the infirmary. "Hazel!" He gasped.
"No, 'oh no Leo, what'd you do to your leg?' No, 'are you okay?' Alright, I see where I stand." Leo said from his bed next to Hazel's.
Hazel, still with gauze over her left eye, held her arms out to him almost like a child would do to their mother. Frank obliged and sat down on the bed and wrapped her in a hug.
I realized that Hazel wasn't to far off from a kid. She was only thirteen. I walked over to Leo and sat down on the chair at his bedside. "How's your leg?" I asked.
He scowled at it like it had done something horribly wrong. "Sucks. Doesn't hurt as much anymore, but I wanna get out there and fight. I wanna do something."
I patted his arm. "Don't worry about it. There's not much to do. It's slow going. Only about half the army to go. Still a lot though, I guess."
He crossed his arms across his chest and puffed angrily. "You're not making me feel any better." He said, not looking at me.
I laughed. "Well, I better go. Got monsters to kill." He glared at me playfully as I left. I took a shaky deep breathe. He didn't know it, but I kinda wished I was the one in the bed.

Piper's POV
I followed Annabeth as we ran to the spot where the lighting struck. I swung the sword I got from the boreads and she slashed with her dagger and her ivory sword.
Soon enough we heard banter and laughing. We exchanged a look. Boys.
Jason and Percy came into view, having a bro moment as always. They stood back to back, slashing at a particularly large regiment of monsters. It was as if they weren't even paying attention to the army, they were just carrying out a nice conversation. Of course it was very sarcastic, but I mean, they're boys. What do you expect?
Jason looked ruggedly handsome in his armor, covered in monster dust. He grinned when he saw me and them promptly cut down a monster. He turned his head to Percy and said, "The ladies don't trust us," with a smile. Percy looked over to us and waved like a super enthusiastic three year old. "Hi!" he yelled. He grinned like an idiot and ran over to greet us, leaving Jason's back undefended. "Hey!" he complained but Percy was already gone. He just huffed and followed suit. I laughed at his pouty face. He just stuck his tongue out at me.
Percy gave me a hug and Annabeth a nice long kiss. "Finally! Some friendly faces!" He said, obviously overjoyed. Again, Jason looked offended. He hit Percy playfully in the arm. I cringed as a piercing scream cut through the air. The smile melted off Percy's face and he kissed Annabeth once more and darted into the trees to try and help the poor person who screamed.
We were just about to follow when the Victor sisters stumbled through the trees. "Run!" Holly screamed. "They're coming!" Laurel screeched. "Who's coming?" I wondered aloud. I soon got my answer. I gasped as a horde of wild centaurs, myrmekes, and dracaenae charged into the clearing. "Dam it." Annabeth said and we ran.
Jason grabbed the both of us around the waists and flew us to nearby trees where we could wait it out. Jason turned to go grab Laurel and Holly, but they were already trampled. I immediately felt guilty. We could've saved them. We could've saved so many off them, but we were always to late. That reminds me, where'd Percy go?
I was pulled from my reverie as a centaur spotted us in our tree. He appeared to be one of the strange ones with the horns butting out of his skull. He was starting to shake the tree. "Don't make eye contact," Annabeth hissed, "they take that as a challenge."
"I don't think he cares if we made eye contact or not." I countered as he head butted the tree again. "He's gonna draw attention to us soon." Jason whispered. "Well kill him then!" I said, exasperated. "I don't have any long distance weapons," he argued, "and my lighting would draw even more attention. That is, if I could summon any. I really need to talk to dad about the whole daily allowance of bolts."
"Don't worry about it bro," said a voice from the next tree over. I was so startled I would've fallen right out of the tree if Annabeth hadn't grabbed me. Thalia shot the centaur, who disintegrated, without a moment's hesitation. "Hey, where'd Percy head off to?" Thalia asked, all the while picking off monsters with her bow.
"I...don't know." Annabeth answered puzzled. "Well we all know how much you hate not knowing." Thalia said calmly. She let another arrow fly. "Thanks sis. How are your hunters holding up?" Jason asked. Thalia looked away from her work and made eye contact with Jason before turning away again. "Six of my thirty are down. Two in the infirmary. We're hanging in there."
"Oh! The screaming camper! We should go see who that is and what we can do to help." I said, finally remembering where Percy had run off to. Jason gave his sister a solute and we moved across the branches to the next tree. I soon saw about thirteen other hunters in neighboring trees with their arrows trained on the enemy and I felt assured that they could take are of it.
It was a painstaking journey to jump from tree to tree without alerting the army, but luckily we didn't have very far to go. We didn't have Jason fly us because he was already pretty spent from fighting all day and summoning lighting and he was already breathing hard from the tree-jumping stunts we were performing.
We finally found Percy battling it out with the Chimera while he stood protectively over a body. A dead body. Oh gods. Apparently the screaming kid didn't make it. We dropped to the ground as nimbly as we could behind the thing, not alerting it of our presence just yet. Percy's eyes flicked to us and then back to the Chimera. He paid us no more attention, trusting us to finish it off while he distracted.
The Chimera's lion head breathed fire at Percy and he ducked and rolled, slashing at its neck, but his sword just bounced off harmlessly. Aim for the maw he mouthed to us. Jason cracked his knuckles and got ready. Unfortunately, that action tipped off the angry monster and he turned around, his snake head/tail snapping at us.
Percy gave Jason an annoyed look like, really? I laughed nervously and dove to the right while Annabeth dove to the left, leaving poor Jason right in the middle. I thought I heard him squeak, "Don't hurt me," but I can't be sure.
The Chimera growled and pawed at the ground. "Jace!" Percy shouted. My head whipped around. Percy was leaping through the air. A look of surprise passed over Jason's face before he realized what was expected of him. A gust of wind helped Percy soar over the head of the Chimera who roared in frustration. Percy took the opportunity to chuck his sword down the beast's throat.
Percy spread his arms dramatically and called out in a whimsical voice. "Catch me Jason." He closed his eyes and sighed. Jason laughed and stepped to the side when Percy came in for a landing. "Oof." Percy said as he crash landed at Jason's feet. He got up and brushed himself off. Then he jumped on Jason unexpectedly and called out again, "Catch me Jason." This time Jason didn't have a choice, for Percy practically tackled him to the ground, using him to brake his fall.
Jason lay on the ground for a few moments and sighed before pushing Percy off, who giggled in delight for getting back at Jason. Then I remembered the body. I ran and skidded to a stop and turned him over. I gasped. "Mitchell!"

Steve's POV
Crack! To anyone who is wondering, that was the sound of my shield breaking a monsters neck. Ya, he dead.
I ducked as a giant swung a fist in my direction. I sprung up shortly afterward, ran up his knee and slammed my shield into its head. I jumped free and the giant stood there, head vibrating, and then disintegrated.
My mind wandered as I killed monster after monster after monster. I haven't seen many of my friends in a while. Heck, I haven't seen Percy since Leo broke his leg.
Suddenly, a huge wave of water rose up from the woods. Oh, well there's Percy, I guess. I looked to my right and saw a) a Thor wreathed in lighting b) a Tony shooting stuff and c) a very angry Thigh Crusher.
I turned my head to the left and saw a very angry Nico di Angelo. Ufda. He scary. He be swingin' dat sword all 'round.
I shook my head. What the heck was wrong with me? I think I got monster dust up my nose. It's affecting my brain!
Let me get this straight. One thing that really bothers me is a general that doesn't fight with his soldiers. I call that cowardice. And right now Tartarus is being a coward. After three straight days of fighting he's still a no-show.
Just thinking about him got me angry. I used that anger to fuel my energy. I bashed and decapitated and slammed monsters repeatedly. To think about what he did to Percy and Annabeth sent shivers up my spine.
I fought and fought and fought. After awhile a Dionysus kid found me and offered water. I leaned against a tree and took a long, refreshing drink.
I sighed and crushed the empty water bottle and gave it back to him. He put it in the garbage bag slung over his shoulder, gave me an honest solute and dashed to the next person.
I shook off the jitters and jumped back into battle. Soon Percy was fighting by my side. He gave me a cheeky smile and yelled over his shoulder. "Boost me!" I held up my shield and he took a running start. He launched himself onto the shield and over my head.
While landing, he killed several monsters in one go. Pretty good for a kid. Sorry, adolescent. Percy doesn't like it when we call him kid.
Percy walked back over and patted me on the back. Familiar faces were finally coming together for what felt like the final battle. The end of the war. Of course I was wrong.
Annabeth and Percy were fighting back to back. Jason and Piper were juggling a couple monsters between them. Alex, TJ, Carter, and Zia worked together to ward away some bird thingies with metallic beaks.
Katie, Travis, and Natasha were dismembering some wild centaurs. Tony and Sam were both in the air again. Wanda was doing her magic next to some Hecate kids who were helping with the mist and other things.
Hazel had made her way out of the infirmary somehow and Frank fought beside her, covering her left flank. Reyna and Nico were quite the duo and so were Mallory and Halfborn.
Blitz and Hearth fought with Sadie and Walt. Tyson led his remaining four Cyclops to battle with Ella resting on his shoulder giving advice on where to hit the opponent.
Jack was flying around the outskirts of the battle killing off as many monsters as possible. As of now he was singing Havana by Camila Cabello. That sword needs to get a gag or something. Like, who sings songs like that while killing things? Weird.
There was no sign of Bruce, or the Hulk, which was a good sign. Thalia was running around killing monsters with her bow and arrows with about twelve hunters following her lead. The rest were either shooting from a distance or...never mind.
There were also a ton of kids in purple t-shirts and full golden battle armor from Camp Jupiter and kids with orange t-shirts and bronze armor from Camp Half-Blood.
As I assessed the battle field, I could feel a slight tremor under my feet. It was almost like the tremor on the night of Capture the Flag. But I quickly dismissed that idea. This felt different...somehow.
The ground shook some more. It shook so much that all the monsters knelt on the ground and the campers held onto each other or just sat on the ground to keep from falling over.
Then, in the center of camp, the ground split open. And out crawled Tartarus.
