jinsol didn't know why lee haechan was such a difficult man to find.
she'd tried sending him texts, calling him, even dming him on instagram, but he was determined to ignore her completely. his pettiness annoyed her, but the way she couldn't hate or stop thinking about him upset her more.
"for the fiftieth time, call me back, lee haechan! it's important!" jinsol cursed into the phone as she marched into her third class of the day. since she was only a freshman, they didn't have any classes in the same buildings, so jinsol never had the chance to find him at school.
her breaking point was when one night, scrolling through her instagram, she stumbled across a post from chenle. zooming in, she could see haechan sitting on a couch in the background, a grinning girl beside him.
sucking in a furious breath through her nose, jinsol clicked on chenle's account.

desperate times call for desperate measures. at least, that's what jinsol told herself as she followed the directions chenle sent her to haechan's apartment.
any guilt she may have felt for bombarding him was long gone as she marched up the steps. she refused to throw their entire... friendship? away over a miscommunication, and if haechan wasn't going to hear her out via text, maybe she'd have better luck in person.
jinsol slowed when she reached the door, double checking the address from chenle before knocking on the door. it was late by this point, and she really hoped he hadn't gone to sleep.
before her thoughts could get away from her, the lock clicked, and she saw him.
haechan's dark hair was slightly disheveled from either sleep or running his fingers through it, and perched on his nose was a pair of glasses that made him look impossibly more attractive. instantly, jinsol's entire chest swelled in ways it never did when she was with jisung.
"h—" before she could get a single word out, the door was closed. jinsol blinked, surprised as she stared at the door. taking a moment to compose herself, she knocked again.
several seconds later, the door cracked open once more. "go away," haechan said, but there wasn't much bite to his words. "it's late, jinsol. you shouldn't be out alone this late."
jinsol was so frustrated with him and herself and their situation that she couldn't stop the burn beginning to spread through her nose. "that's not fair," she spat, her voice cracking at the end. it was enough to get haechan to look at her.
"ever since i was a child," she began, pausing many times to collect herself, "my mother told me that my first kiss would be with my first love. i think she told me to scare me away from boys, but i lived by that code my whole life."
haechan had opened the door wider sometime during her explanation so that jinsol could now see all of him. she was so focused on searching his face, so desperate to get him to listen that she completely ignored the shinchan t-shirt and sweats.
"what are you trying to say?" he asked, and all she could hear was the heartbrokenness hiding behind the forced impatience and annoyance.
jinsol sniffled, dragging harsh hands down her face to wipe her tears away. it was in vain as more tears raced after the ones she managed to clear. "i thought i ruined it new year's day when i kissed a stranger, but i was wrong." she paused, taking a shuddering breath as she met his eyes. "i got to spend my first kiss on love, after all."
haechan opened the door completely but didn't move forward as he stared at the girl in front of him. his eyes were full of conflicting emotions that made jinsol physically ache.
"wait, but," he began, running a shaky hand through his tousled hair. "but you and jisung—"
"there is no me and jisung. i rejected him," she rushed out as she took an experimental step closer to him. "i said no. i couldn't feel for him what i feel for you."
haechan's eyes sparkled in the moonlight. he couldn't understand. he'd been so sure, so sure that jinsol and jisung were a couple. it was the entire reason why he'd avoided her. and all this time...
he remembered her words with a jolt. breathing hard, haechan caught her teary gaze. "love?"
jinsol didn't hesitate before nodding her head, a quiet sob slipping past her lips as she pressed her palms against her eyes. "i'm sorry! i had to tell you, it was killing me. i've never felt such joy and anger and... i've never been with someone who makes me feel the way you make me feel."
without entirely meaning to, haechan stepped across the threshold and encased jinsol's pink-tinted cheeks between his hands, desperately searching her eyes to see if this was real.
he hadn't intended on falling for someone this fast, this hard, but those days he thought he'd lost her were the worst. he'd shut her out in fear, and he was determined not to make the same mistake.
haechan wanted to tell her how full of joy and anger she made him, too. how she'd completely flipped his life upside down, but all that came out of his mouth was, "i'd like to kiss you again. for real, this time."
jinsol's face pushed against his hands as a large, toothy grin appeared. "i'd like that, too."
there was no need to hear it twice. haechan slipped one hand down to cradle jinsol's jaw as the other stayed against her cheek. he pulled her to him as he stepped forward, connecting their lips with intention for the first time. he moved them in sync, careful not to nip her bottom lip or scare her with tongue since he guessed she wasn't used to any of that. haechan smiled into it when he felt her fingers nervously move through his hair and pulled away, grinning at her starstruck form.
"woah. okay. that was a kiss."
haechan gave her his best smug little smirk and tugged her until their chests touched. "oh, sweetheart, are you in for a treat."
jinsol playfully shoved him away, sneaking one more quick and shy peck against his lips before dashing down the steps. "when i text you, you better answer this time!"
"it's a deal."
