A groan left Alisha's lips as she got out of her wheely-chair. She stretched her torso, looking up at the ceiling. Her body ached after sitting in a chair for such a prolonged period of time. It was worth it only because she could meet cute animals throughout the day.
The money was a bonus, as well, she couldn't deny that. As she paced throughout her cabin, she plugged in her earphones, listening to songs. She softly hummed along, not wanting someone out of the cabin to listen to her.
Out of habit, she opened her chat with Abhishek, surprising herself.
I have nothing to say.
Why did I open his chat?
Her mind went blank as she pursed her lips. To her shock, just as she was thinking about him, her phone rung. It was a video call from Abhishek. Her heart fluttered for a moment, as she received the call, trying to maintain a composed face.
"Uhm...hey dumbass," she dryly said.
"I need your help, you're free right? You received my call which means you're free, right?"
She nodded, squinting her eyes at him. He seemed to be in a mall, as his voice was accompanied by an amalgamation of various background sounds. Vibrant clothes in his background lit her phone screen.
"Alisha! Snap out of it," he clicked his tongue. "And help me," his voice held a whiny tone and she raised her brow.
"Kya hua?" (What happened?)
"So my niece wants a princess outfit as a gift for Diwali, since I'm gonna get busy soon I want to buy it now," he explained.
"Help me choose it,"
She smiled as she noticed the sheer adoration in his voice for his sister's daughter, his eyes twinkling with joy. She readily nodded, eager to assist his shopping.
"Look at this," he said, switching the camera. "There's so many options, which one do you think she'll like?"
Alisha scanned the gowns, a satisfied smile on her face as she chose one.
"The baby pink one, it's perfect!" She gleamed with a childlike excitement, walking down the lanes of memory when she was that age, shopping with her parents for flowy dresses.
"Are you sure?" He mumbled, as he pulled the dress off the rod. He held it by the hanger, giving Alisha a closer look at the dress.
"I'm a hundred percent sure. She will love it!"
"Okay, next stop- a crown!"
"Call it a tiara, doofus,"
"What even?"
