Chapter 69
"What do you mean by heavy?"
Turning around, Mercalos was surprised to see who it was while Lucilia had an tinged of hostility in her expression.
There, wearing a modern minimalist clothing, the silver grey hair coupled with that of a features of a maturing woman. Meiya Everheart looked at Mercalos and Lucilia with the air of nobility surrounding her.
Seeing Meiya at first glance, Mercalos first thought was that of she was a woman from the philippines. However, seeing the crest of the Everheart family on her wrist was what caused his shock.
The Everheart family is one of the leading families in the whole of Pilanda Empire.
The family itself is known to have unimaginable wealth and is home to powerful knights and magicians all around.
More so, it is also rumored that the family has some certain power in the Empire's politics.
"Wha-what is a member of the Everheart family doing here!?" Thought Mercalos.
While Mercalos is thinking on what the hell is an member of the Everheart family doing here, Lucilia then said with hostility.
"There's nothing heavy. You can go now."
Hearing what Lucilia said, and also what her tone implies, Meiya couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
"Look, I know that me and my team attacked you with those pirates. But now, I'm just an prisoner. I could do nothing to you."
Hearing this, Lucilia simply scoffed.
"I'm no fool. Your hands are not detained, and your wearing clothing that came from the Philippines. Prisoner? I think not. Besides, that's not how the Philippines deals with you anyway."
Meiya lowered her brows upon hearing this.
Lucilia was right. She was indeed not treated as a prisoner and had her own set of freedom.
She had also heard about the country Philippines before and everything about it.
From traditional culture to it's military.
It was hard for her to believe that such a country actually exists.
Although she has not seen the country itself, she could already tell on how powerful the country is.
There was an offside to all of this though.
She's trapped on the port alone.
All forms of contact outside the port was not allowed. Permissions to contact her family was all negated.
She was basically what people here calls a sitting duck.
Creasing her brows, Meiya then said.
"Might I ask for our bad blood then to be of the past for now. From what I heard so far, you also haven't left the port for a long time as well. So I'm pretty sure you also became uninformed about what's happening outside no?"
Hearing this, Lucilia couldn't help but stre daggers at Meiya.
It's true, although she was indeed receiving letters from her crew, most of those were about how worried they are to her. None of it concerns all the outside things that are currently happening.
Witnessing the cold fight that is currently happening between Meiya and Lucilia, Mercalos felt like he was being strangled to death at such an atmosphere.
"Please, if you want to fight, spare me from the issue." Cried Mercalos.
"Back on issue, you there, what's the heavy thing that you have been referring to?"
Right after Meiya said this, Lucilia also looked at Mercalos with an expression of, 'your gonna follow her?' plastered on her face.
Repeatedly looking at Lucilia and Meiya, Mercalos simply shook his head inwardly.
"Women, such a mess." He thought.
Not minding Lucilia's lion glare, in respect to the Everheart family, Mercalos then said,
"It's about attacks done by the empire. And, the high alert situation, the country Philippines is doing right now."
Hearing this, The glare Lucilia was previously giving immediately disappeared while Meiya had a serious expression now plastered on her face.
"What do you mean by that?" Asked Meiya.
"In the Tridom Republic, there are three kingdoms. The Lina kingdom, Biscot kingdom, and the Marsus kingdom."
"A few days ago, the Lina kingdom and the Biscot kingdom rallied a percentage of their armies towards the Marsus kingdom. And that is done by the order of the empire."
"However..."
With a slight pause, Mercalos continued.
"On the day of the rally, it became a bloodbath."
"For the Marsus kingdom?" Asked Lucilia.
"..."
"For the rallied army."
Besides the activity on the port, a deafening silence fell on all three of them.
After some time, stuttering, Meiya then asked,
"H-how many men were in the battle?"
"More than 30 thousand men."
"Who was the leading army?"
Head low, Mercalos replied,
"Biscot kingdom."
"How about the rear?"
"Lina kingdom."
Hearing this, Meiya's shoulders relaxed.
"The Overseers?"
"A legion from the Empire."
After Mercalos said this, Meiya now had an relieved expression on her face. This in turn however, confused Mercalos.
"To think that the Marsus kingdom actually had such a capability to fend of attacks at that scale." Said Meiya in utter relief.
"And as the Empire are the overseers, they probably hadn't entered the battlefield."
"I'm afraid you are wrong Ms. Everheart."
"Hmm?"
"It wasn't the Marsus kingdom that fought the battle."
"Huh?"
"It was the Philippines that fought it."
Hearing the word Philippines, wide eyed, Meiya immediately asked with an tone of ordering a servant arrogantly,
"Ho-how many d-did they send?!"
Hearing such a tone, Mercalos frowned, however, as he was the one that incited the topic, he still replied,
"One."
"Wha-what?"
"The Philippines only sent one man."
After Mercalos said this, Meiya staggeringly took a few steps back. Disbelief plastered on her face.
"Tha-that's impossible!"
"Ho-how can one man fight more than 30 thousand men!"
"I-I don't believe such preposterousness."
Turning his back to them, Looking at the sea, Mercalos then said,
"Believe it or not, that's what happened."
"The knights and the delegates from the Marsus kingdom itself witnessed it."
Feeling weak, Meiya took a seat on the bench.
"A bloodbath caused by one man from the Philippines."
"This is just impossible."
"Only in stories can such things exist."
Looking at her demoralized image, Mercalos simply sighed inwardly.
"Most of those that stays within the Empire's land have only seen glory. Victory after victory, gloating their ego."
"And when they see despair and bloodshed. They crumble."
Head low, Meiya then said,
"How can you say that. Do you even know the Empire that well? Also the Empire's history, do you know it well?"
"History is nothing to the present. As it only remains as memories of the past."
"And also, although memories are helpful they are not in outright, useful."
"Ms. Everheart. Do not get me wrong. I have respect for your family, however, the Empire at its current state, if it continues it's domination, I'm afraid it will fall."
"How.... Can you say that?"
"Build a tower so tall. So tall, that it reaches the skies. In the eyes of many, it looks imposing, it looks strong, powerful."
"However, no one knew that the foundation of that tower is crumbling. Day by day, slowly breaking apart."
"That is the current Pilanda Empire."
Silence befell on all three of them.
After some time, Meiya then asked blankly,
"How can you know all of this. How can you say all of that?"
"Ms. Everheart, I am a veteran merchant. And an veteran merchant's eye can see who is the fool, who is the genuine, who is the smart, and who would be the one to fall."
"More so, we are not protected by any sort of power. We depend on our own. We see different types of people, the greedy, the prideful, and many more."
"More so, that as merchants, we are prone to being ambushed, attacked, and even be in the battlefield sometimes. Always in the hands of either life and death.
"That is how I can say and know, all of this."
Breathing in deeply, she asked.
"How many survived."
"Based in the reports those from the Marsus kingdom, most are from the Lina kingdom, a minimum from the Biscot kingdom."
Raising her head, Meiya asked,
"The empire?"
"Reports instigated that a minimum escaped."
"Minimum only?"
"All high ranking leaders and officers are presumed dead. The most closest to them are also presumed dead."
*Whoosh!*
A blue magic circle immediately appeared on Meiya's wrists.
And as they were close to the sea, multiple protuding water spikes, immediately appeared around her.
Aiming her hands at Mercalos, who had a surprised expression on his face.
With this action she made however, an alarm immediately rang in the port.
Within just a few seconds, military ships that were not at bay immediately had their turrets aimed right at the location of Mercalos, Meiya, and Lucilia.
Nearby Helicopters and attack helicopters also began to surround the area.
"Are you telling me that the Empire's men are incapable of taking down one man!"
Hearing Meiya's angered question, Mercalos was already prepared to reply immediately, however,
"Don't be delusional woman." Said Lucilia blankly.
"If you presumed that the Empire's people would be that capable, then why are you captured here then?"
"Look around you. Everything here is done by the Philippines. From their men, to their military power."
"If you, a person of the empire, is that capable, then wouldn't you have left this place long ago?"
"Naive, too naive."
Hearing Lucilia's remarks, Meiya slowly lowered her hands, the magic circle slowly disappearing.
Right after this, armed men have then reached the scene.
"Put your hands up in the air now!"
Raising her hands, Meiya glanced at Lucilia, then lowered her heads and followed what the armed men said.
After Meiya left, some people then approached Lucilia.
