Chapter 40

***Jason's POV

Serena looked like she was gonna blow when Blue called her out.

She's cute when she's angry.

"Jason dear, I'm going to talk to Green, ok?" Sarah says, as she lets go of my arm.

"Ok."

I look over at Serena, and I see Ash hugging her tightly.

I watching them makes my heart ache.

I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Ash kisses her forehead, and whispers something in her ear.

I need some fresh air.

I walk out the room, and head outside. Once outside, I'm hit with a cold breeze.

Strange. It's usually very hot this time of year.

I stand there, watching the trees dance with the wind keeping tiempo, swaying back and forth. The sun is slowly hiding behind a plethora of clouds, creating a shadow that gently covers the land.

"Jason. Are you ok?"

I turn and May is standing by the door.

"I should be asking you that question," I answer. May stays silent, then smiles.

"I'm ok. To be honest, it still hurts. A lot. But I'm trying to move on, and maybe I'll be able to find someone who will want me as much as I want them," May answers, walking up to stand next to me.

"Your turn."

I sigh.

"I'm not ok. Not one bit." I smile, as I turn back towards the trees.

"What happened?"

"Some of the worst things that could've happened to somebody," I say, as I pick up a rock from the ground, and throw at a tree. The rock bounces off and skips along the ground.

"My mother and two of my oldest friends were killed because of me. And to finish it off I was rejected."

I turn and stare at May. She looks back at me with sorrow in her eyes.

"Jason. I'm so-"

"Don't. Just don't."

I hear screaming coming from inside. May runs and opens the door. I see Green storming towards me, with Yellow and Sarah following her.

"You!" Green yells, coming straight for me.

Oh. Looks like she knows.

She comes out and her fist makes contact with my face. The taste of blood immediately follows.

"How could you do this to her! Why? You can't use somebody like that!"

"Green, calm down! He didn't use me!" Sarah and Yellow catch up, and Sarah is pulling Green back while Yellow comes to check on me.

"Are you ok?" Yellow asks as I spit blood to the ground.

I grin.

"No. But this punch is the least of my worries."

"He took advantage of the situation! Jason, who are you? I would never expect you to do something like this!" Green breaks out of Sarah's grip and rushes towards me again. Yellow tries to stop her, but I pull her away. Green punches me in the jaw, and follows through with a kick on my side. Before I could even fall, she finishes off with a round house kick, sending me flying into a tree. The bark of the tree cracks as my back hits the trunk of the tree.

"Green, stop!"

Sarah gets in between Green and I. Yellow runs over to May and whispers something to her. May runs inside

"Green, he didn't use me or take advantage of me! I let it happen! I wanted it to happen," Sarah says, her voice trailing off. Green keeps her fist clenched and stares at me with a Spearow's glare.

"Green."

Blue stands by the door, his arms crossed. May stands behind him, as a shade of red spreads throughout Green's face. Blue walks over to her, and wraps her in a hug. Green stands there in shock, then hugs him back.

"Do you want to go on a walk with me?" Blue asks.

Green nods slowly, as they walk off together.

As soon as they're out of hearing distance I begin to laugh hysterically.

Sarah runs to my side and hugs me. I continue laughing, until my laughter slowly turn into sobs.

"Shh, it's ok, I'm here," Sarah says, as she hugs me tight

"Thanks," I manage to mumble, tears spilling down my cheeks. Even though Sarah's comforting does help a bit, she's not the girl I need at my side.

***May's POV

"Let's give them some space," Yellow says, as she leads me back towards the mansion.

"Are they ok? Why did Green beat the crap out of Jason?"

Yellow sighs.

"While we were at the meeting, Jason and Sarah were-"

We take a turn, and we see Crystal and Gold fall into their room together, their lips connected and hands wandering all over each other's bodies. The door slams shut behind them.

"That. They were doing that. But Jason seems to have taken it a step further," Yellown explains, as she walks over to an empty chair in the hallway.

Whoa.

"It seems like everyone is pairing up," I comment, sitting down next to her.

Yellow smiles.

"If you've been around as long as we have, it wouldn't be that big of a surprise. Gold asked out Crystal a couple years ago. Green and Blue have this were relationship that they like each other, but none of them want to commit. Or at least not yet. You saw that Ruby and Sapphire just got together, even though they've been bickering like an old married couple for years. Pearl and Platinum got together earlier this year, after Platinum finally gave in to Pearl. He's liked her for a long time, and she's been so busy with her studies she didn't even acknowledge him. I don't blame her though. You always have you put yourself first before others when it comes to situations like those," Yellow says.

"Interesting. What about Silver, Dia, and yourself?" I ask. Yellow just sighs and rolls her eyes.

"Silver is too uh, dense and emotionless sometimes. There's a lot of things he needs to do before he can date. Dia, he's a kid in an adult body. I don't even think the idea of a girlfriend has come across his mind. And me, you already know. Red, he's just so focused on being a Pokemon Master he doesn't have time or doesn't want to put time in a relationship. But I'll wait until he's ready."

"You're going to wait? How long has it been already? Like fifteen years?"

Yellow chuckles.

"Yeah, just about. But I don't mind."

"Really? Why?"

"Because I love him. Ever since he taught me how to catch Pokemon oh so long ago, I felt something change in my chest. When he went missing after he challenged the Elite Four, that's when I knew. And I'll wait until he's ready, because I know he's going to need someone to help him settle down, and I'll be here for him." Yellow says, sightly blushing as she puts her hair in a ponytail.

Wow. Yellow has so much dedication and love towards Red. It's sad, how he doesn't even realize it.

I want to find someone who is worth the wait.

Suddenly, out the corner of my eye, I see someone run off in the opposite direction.

"Hehe. It's funny, because after I helped save him, he thought I was a boy for the longest time. To fair though, I really did look like a boy with my hair tucked in my hat," she says, as she puts her hat on.

"I'm scared. I can't help but feel like something bad is going to happen. I guess everyone has the same feeling as well, since everyone seems to be spending time with their loved one, but then there's us who don't have a loved one yet, appreciating our time together," she says, smiling at me.

"Thanks, for spending time with me. I would've gone crazy if I was alone the whole time," I say, smiling back.

"Don't worry, I have your back," Yellow says, as she smiles at me and I smile back.

***Serena's POV

"Ash, where are you taking me?" I say in between giggles. He leads me up a mini flight of stairs.

"Just trust me, you'll love it," he says, as we approach a wooden door. He opens it, and sunlight floods in, blinding me for a few second. Once my vision returns, I realize were standing on a balcony, with beach chairs next to the door. There's so much space up here that there's a mini golf course set up. Pikachu hops off of Ash's shoulder and runs towards the golf course.

"Come over here!" Ash yells, as he leads me towards the railing. I gasp as I see the view. The pond reflects the sun's setting rays as the sun hides behind the plethora of trees. Everything falls perfectly into place.

"It's beautiful," I say.

"It's is, but it's not as beautiful as you," Ash says, smiling at me.

My face grows a shade of red.

We eventually get away from the railing and go to sit down. I unleash Braixen so she can go play with Pikachu.

"How did you know about this place? It would've taken me years until I found it," I say, as I slide over to Ash's beach chair and snuggle next to him. Ash wraps an arm around my shoulders.

"Yellow was the one who told me. She said this is the most romantic setting in this whole manison and I should show it to someone I really care about," he says, as he kisses my forehead.

"Yeah? Well, any place is a romantic place as long as I'm with you," I say, as I reach for his chin and bring his lips to mine. The gentle embrace sparks something inside both of us, as we both smile and back away.

"I've missed you so much," Ash says, as he hugs me. I kiss him on the cheek. He then let's go and goes back to the position he was before, as we both watch the sun continue to set.

We sit there for a few minutes in silence, and I start to worry. Ash is normally very talkative but he's been so silent.

I look over at him, and he has a grim look on his face.

"Ash, is everything ok?"

"Huh? Uh, yeah, I'm fine," he says, faking a smile.

What a liar.

"Now tell me the truth. I can see right through you!"

"You know me so well," Ash says, grinning. The grin quickly disappears.

Well, see, I'm scared," he says, grabbing my hand.

"Scared? About tomorrow?" I gulp.

I still can't believe Blue chose Ash for that job. He's ridiculous.

"We just found each other, and I don't wanna risk not seeing you ever again," he says, looking into my eyes. His jolly smile is replaced with a sad Growlithe look, and squeezes my hand.

"Ash, listen to me: nothing is going to happen to us. We'll look out for each other, and protect each other," I say with a smile.

Ash avoids eye contact.

"No."

"No? What do you mean no?" I yell, letting go on his hand. He eyes me sadly.

"Blue and I don't always see eye-to-eye, but agree with him; you should stay here tomorrow."

I jump to my feet and tower over him.

"Why?"

"So you'll be safe."

"Safe? Safe from what? Danger? Yes, maybe, but I won't be safe from my feelings! My thoughts! Have you ever stopped and wandered how people care about you? How they feel when you try to be the hero? It's terrifying and it kills not knowing if you're ok or if I'll see you again tomorrow. It's not fair!"

Ash gets up and tries to hug me but I push him away. He refuses to step away, so I start pushing harder.

"I thought you cared about me!"

"Serena, I-"

"If you did, you wouldn't hurt me by making me stay here!"

Ash stops and slowly back away. He looks down at the ground. His red cap covers his face.

"Ash, I love you. But please, don't hurt me like this."

Ash slowly makes his way over towards me, and wipes away tears I didn't even realize were there.

"Fine."

Fine?

I stare at him. He smiles.

"We'll go together, but," he says, as he holds my hands.

"Only if you agree to be my girlfriend."

My heartbeat starts to increase as a huge smile forms

"Of course then I'll be your girlfriend! What kind of question is-"

"And," Ash says, as he my right hand and places it on his chest right above the heart.

"If you agree to take care of this. My heart. My heart is officially yours, even though you stole it a while ago," he says with a grin.

"It's a bit beat up and it has cracks in it, but it's strong and consistent just like my love for you. Do you promise you'll take care of it for me?"

Oh my.

"Ash, I, I don't know what to say, I'm, I'm speechless."

"Just tell the truth Serena."

I don't think about it too long. I already know the answer.

"I promise," as I get on my tip tops and give him a kiss on the lips.
