Chapter 12

***Serena's POV

Someone knocks on the door.

I slowly wake up and gasp.

All the medical supplies, waste, and bloody clothes from last night are gone. May is on her bed, asleep while Jason is no where to be seen.

Someone knocks on the door again.

I groan as I get off the floor and open the door.

"Hello! I'm here to return Blaziken back! He's in tip top shape!" Nurse Joy yelps as she hands me the pokeball.

I smile.

"Thanks Nurse Joy."

I close the door. When I turn around, May is sitting up on the bed, rubbing her eyes.

"Here's Blaziken," I say, handing her the pokeball. I let out a soft yawn.

"Thanks," she says as she clips it on her belt. May stretches her arms out, yawning. Before I can ask her about last night, she stops, and points.

"What are those?" May asks, pointing to a far corner of the room. There, there's two different bags, with cards attached to them.

"I don't know," I answer, going over to pick them up. They're paper bags with white handles, one is pink and the other red. On the pink one, the card reads Serena, while the card on the red one reads May.

"This one is for you," I say, handing her bag to her.

I open my bag with caution and slowly dig through it. I feel cloth. I pull it out and it's a skirt! I dig in again and I pull a sleeveless top, and grey long socks. At the bottom of the bag there's another card.

Thank you for helping me, especially after what I did. Or more like what I didn't do.
-Jason

Whoa.

"Serena, look!"

I see May holding up a pair of leggings, with a green undershirt and a red jacket, similar to her orange one. Her's also came with a new red bandana.

"That's so cute!"

I notice a separate card on her bed.

"May, did you have a second card?"

"Yeah, why?"

"What did it say?"

She reaches for it.

"I hope this lightens up your mood a bit. From Jason"

Hmm.

I change my focus to my new clothes. The top has grey outlines, a curvy design near the edge of the neck. The skirt is a baby blue. It comes with a grey cardigan.

Jason has a good taste in fashion.

...

We scan the room before we walk out the door, wearing out new outfits. I gently pat my backpack, where Ash's hat is.

We walk out the front door of the Pokemon Center, where we find Jason leaning against a tree, with Pichu at his side. He's wearing a light blue shirt with grey long sleeves. He wears jeans, and he has his hair combed and gelled to the right side.

I like this change.

"Whoa. Why so presentable?"
May asks.

"I needed to hide my wounds, so it won't bring unwanted attention," he explains. Pichu climbs up the tree.

"Besides, I like to change it up a bit once in a while."

"What wounds do you even have?" May asks.

Of course she didn't notice.

"Well, there's the Hounddoom bite," he says, gesturing towards his arm.

"And wasn't there a hole in your shoulder? How did that happen?" I ask, raising my eyebrows.

"Well, uh, the Machamp kind of threw me against a pile of rubble, where there was a metal rod sticking out, and my flesh went right through it."

"Ouch. That must've hurt."

"Yeah, but I've felt worse," Jason says, shrugging.

"Once you guys fell asleep, I took the liberty of gathering some things for us, I hope you didn't mind," Jason says, extending his hands up.

"What are you-"

May is interupted when a basket falls from the tree, into his hands. Pichu runs back down the tree, grinning.

"Here's breakfast!"

....

"This was really good! Where did you get it?" I ask, eating another bite of a cheese omelette.

"I made it. I bought the ingredients while my pokemon wear being healed at the Pokemon Center, then borrowed to ask the kitchen." Jason says, drinking his orange juice.

"Then I just put everything in a basket, because it's nice outside. It would be a shame not to take advantage of it."

"You should make breakfast more often!" May exclaims, before flopping over.

This breakfast picnic was real nice. The wind is gently passing by, and the sun is slowly rising higher and higher.

"Jason, how old are you?" May asks.

Such a random question, but a harmless one.

"Eighteen." Jason and I answer in unison.

Jason glares at me a bit, before smiling. May gives off a confused look.

"Serena here was creeping on me and the Professor the night I brought her to his lab. Talk about creepy," Jason says, gathering the dishes together.

"Oh, be quiet!"

"That sounds like something Serena would do," May says, smirking at me.

"But tell me something about yourself Jason. I've known you for about a week more than Serena, but I still don't really know you besides your name, and your age."

May does have a point. I don't know much about Jason either.

"What do you want to know?"

"Well, what happened last night?" I ask.

"What do you mean? Don't you remember?"

"I don't."

Jason looks at me, then looks over at May. May simply avoids eye contact. Jason has a slight tinge of red in his face.

As Jason opens his mouth to speak, we hear screaming.

"Help! The gym leader is drowning!"

Jason jumps up and runs towards the main road.

"Jason! Be careful!" I scream, chasing after him. May follows.

As we run down the main road, I see a crowd around a building that seems to look like a aquarium.

Oh please, don't let the gym leader be dead.

"Move out the way!" Jason yells, as he tries to open the glass doors. They're locked. As Jason tries to open the doors in vain, I can see from the doors a huge pool. I see a girl with red hair who's chained to the inside of the pool. She's about to be underwater.

"Damn it!" Jason yells, as he punches the door. I see a red spot growing where his injured shoulder is.

"Jason! You're bleeding again!" I yell, trying to get him stop.

"Blaziken, come on out!" May yells, unleashing her pokemon from his pokeball.

"Use High Jump Kick to knock down these doors!"

"Blaziken!" He yells, as he becomes a blur, and knocked the doors down.

Jason rushes in and we follow. Once we reach the pool, the girl's whole body is underwater.

"Gastrodon, free her!"

Jason unleash a pink and brown slug-like pokemon.

"Gastrodon!"

He dives in the water, and uses Water Pulse to break the chains. Then he jumps out of the water with the girl on his back.

"Misty!" May yells, running to Gastrodon. Misty flops over on her back, not moving.

"No. Not again." May's face gets pale.

I stand there, unable to move.

Did Ash do this again?

Jason runs to Misty, and begins pushing on her chest. He tries a couple times, then makes contact with her lips. I can't help but get this weird feeling in my chest. What's going on with me?

Jason then moves back to pushing on her chest. Seconds later, Misty coughs, spitting out water, gasping for air.

"Don't worry May, she's fine," Jason says, helping Misty sit up. May runs and hugs her.

"May? What are you doing here, and-"

"Shut up! What happened to you! You nearly died!"

Misty's face drops a bit. She rubs her face.

"Ash came to visit me."
