Chapter 3: A very interesting meeting

Virgil's POV

After the feast Roman sent one of his guards to find us and bring us to a meeting room. When we were walking I re-summoned our weapons, much to Remus' delight. "No killing Remus." Remus' smile fell and I quickly added one, "Or maiming, or just, injuring someone in general." Remus made a pout and then Janus pulled him in and kissed him on the head and he smiled a little bit.

When we got to a big set of wooden doors the guard opened them and then left. I saw Roman sitting at the head of the table with Logan at one of his sides. Patton was sitting next to Logan. Remy, oh gods Remy is here, Remy was standing in the corner with his arms crossed. Emile was no where to be found.

I walked in, slowly, taking in everyone's expression. Remy was scowling at me, but that doesn't surprise me. Patton was giving me a smile however it was small. Logan was forcing his face to remain neutral, but I remember the last thing he said to me before I left. He was probably trying to conceal his disgust, anger, or any other emotion that was not particularly positive. I then glimpsed at Roman who was smiling.

"Smiling are we? Did someone miss me Princey?" Roman rolled his eyes at me, causing me to raise an eyebrow. "I'm a King now, not a Prince." was all he could respond with. I'll take that as a yes he missed me. "Okay, but Kingey doesn't have the same appeal. Oh, and Logan," Logan looked at me. "We all know you're hiding something with that neutral face, stop concealing your emotions." Logan frowned at me, I just shrugged and sat down.

Remus and Janus sat down next to me, one on each side. I glanced around the room one more time. "Remy!" I called out to the Prince, "Where's Emile?" Remy, still with a scowl on his face, replied. "He's with the press on the topic of, well you. Don't you think your entrance was a little Maleficent like? The whole crashing an important royal celebration?" I know Remy tried to hurt me, but I just shrugged. "I mean, I guess. My Mother did know how to make an entrance." I seemed to piss Remy off with that answer.

I returned my attention to the sitting Royals. "So, titles?"

"Logan's my advisor and Patton is my second in command?" I raised my eyebrow. "Are you two dating?" Roman's face went through several stages of shock, before it settled on calm. "No, he's still dating Logan." I just nodded. There was an awkward silence for a couple of minutes before Roman spoke up.

"So, titles?" His was posed more as a question. "K, well Ja- Deceit," it felt so wrong to say, but Janus  hadn't wanted his name to be given away. "is my advisor, and Remus is, I guess he's sort of like Patton. He's in charge of the army in the Underworld, but he holds the title of Duke."

Roman smiled and went to pat Remus on the shoulder, "Good for you brother." Remus pulled away from Roman before he could touch him. "I'm not your brother. Your parents disowned me." Roman instantly put his hand down and his face fell into a state of contemplation.

"So," Logan cleared his throat, "What were these 'treaties and such' you wanted to discuss?" I smiled. This reaction was going to be fun. " I want control of the Isle." Yup. Everybody's face went to shock and horror. After a few minutes Logan was the only one to regain his composure.

"I'm sorry, but we are not giving that to you." I just laughed. "Well than I am not leaving." Logan and I had a stare down. He sharpened his gaze, it was the one he learned from the Isle: sharp as glass, cool as the winter storm that blew over every December. The glare that sent commoners crawling away from the son of the evil queen, begging for mercy. The look that said 'don't mess with me or I'll mess you up'. I missed seeing such a look on my old friends face, though I was happy to know it was still there. Deep down, though probably closer than anyone realized, Logan knew his roots. He knew where he came from, where he was born and lived until this bright glittery place saved him. He knew he was a VK.

Placing in some magic to my gaze, emerald eyes brightened and Logan blinked, breaking the contest. Although the stare down was over, the room still held a tense atmosphere. Remy was glaring at me and glancing out the window, no doubt looking for Emile. Janus and Remus stared straight ahead, daring anyone to say something. Roman was staring at me, trying to detail my face. He probably was observing what had changed over the year. Finally, Patton glanced anywhere but us. He twirled a dirty brown curl between his finger, singing slightly under his breath.

Janus leaned over slightly. Glancing back towards the royals that were monitoring our every move, he lifted his golden glove up, hiding his nose and my ear. His hot breath whispered against my cool skin, his murmurs were soft and delicate, the words formatting on his tongue perfectly as they rolled out. When he finished, he glanced back towards those sitting on the opposite end of the table once more. Smirking ever so slightly, Janus pulled his hand away elegantly. Folding the gloved fingers in his lap, he stared straight ahead, amusement on his face.

"How about a compromise?" I leaned forward, my hands clasped together.

"Compromise?" Logan echoed, his voice sharp and cautious.

"That is what I said."

"What would this... compromise be?" Logan narrowed his eyes, leaning close to me.

"Well... I have a person on the Isle-"

"No." The voice rang out clear. The diction cut through the air, stopping the words in my mouth. Remy stalked over to the table. Placing his hands, palms down, on the wooden piece, he leaned forward, his glasses titling ever so slightly, giving way to the crescent of his eyes.

"We will not  be bringing however you want over without giving them a full evaluation." I sighed, leaning back in my seat. "Really?"

"Roman," the king caught to attention as his name left my mouth, "I have this one person I need to prove a point. Who are you to deny me it?" Before my ex could answer, his advisor swooped in. "He is King of Auradon. Here you are a guest in his Kingdom. He may deny you whatever he pleases."

"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Janus chirped, "We here are on civil duty to Kingdoms each our own. Please, don't get all feisty on us, Logan," he teased.

"My King, if I may?" Logan leaned over and whispered into Roman's ear. His face grew with concern, weighing whatever the VK was telling him.

"Alright," he said at last, once Logic had pulled away. "Virgil, we will hold a few meetings going over this... person, you want to bring. Then, after those meetings we will hold a final decision."

"What are these meetings exactly going to be about?"Janus leaned forward, snake scales glimmering in the afternoon sun.

"Judge of character, any powers, if they're a threat. Basic things like that," Logan waved his hand and adjusted his glasses. I snorted. "Really, judge of character, any powers, if they're a threat? Logan, buddy," he tensed at my words, "none of us, besides maybe Remus, would've made it here if those were the guidelines."

The advisor sat stiff. Patton glanced up towards the tall man, eyes filled with concern. "Those are the rules. Either agree with them or we're done. A guard will show you to your room." Logan said almost robotically.

"Fine," I snapped, "Nice doing business with ya."

I pushed my chair back, my eye catching onto Roman's eager ones. Shaking my head slightly, I walked up towards the door, Janus and Remus tailing me. A guard was waiting, as instructed, and lead us towards our chambers where I promptly face planted on my bed like a real diplomat.

What a day.
