Chapter 16
(Okay so it seems that after almost a year, to which I am terribly sorry. The votes that I am counting for the continuation of this story is path three. The first one having Two votes, second one (though listed indirectly), and the third having seven or either at the time. So hope you enjoy this chapter and may it be well worth it)
3rd POV
"Hi who are you and why are you in my room?" The Dragon-woman growled and Artemis scowled at her.
"Don't you mean our room?" She said and the Dragon-Woman's eyes widened.
"Wait. Your, her" she said and her large mouth full of sharp teeth stayed open as Artemis cocked her head.
"What do you mean?" She asked the Dragon-Woman who was now standing.
"Your the newest Assassin of The Dragon Assassins' Team?" The woman exclaimed, her maw still open in awe.
"Shouldn't you be mad about this" Artemis said noticing the Dragon-Woman's awe. "I mean I'm literally in the business of killing those related to you"
"I know, but the Dragons have killed many of others kind including mine own, and if I was strong enough I would've become an assassin against them, but when I tried out for the Assassins. I couldn't even make it past the first test" Her head dropped and Artemis didn't know what to say.
"Don't apologize. It's not your fault after all" she suddenly stood tall and looked at me, "but I can promise you that I will be able to join you one day"
"I'm Happy that you found your drive, and I hope that you are able to make it in the future" Artemis smiled and the Dragon-Woman Stuck our her clawed hand.
"Now that that's over. My name's Thronclaw" Artemis took her hand and shook it.
"I'm Artemis" she said and then started to look around the room. "So why does almost everything belong to the both of us in here? Shouldn't you have your own things?"
"I do have my own things, but I can put almost everything in my magic chest here" Thornclaw stepped on a simple wooden chest with a large grin on her face.
"Okay. So that means that this bed is mine?" Artemis said moving over to the bed parallel to Thornclaws on the opposite side of the room.
"Yeah, but what about your things. Don't you have anything besides that with you?" She asked touting her head curiously.
"Nope, But I don't really need to go somewhere door clothes, I can just make them" Artemis materialized a cloak in her left hand and then let it disappear, and Thornclaw's eyes widened in shock.
"You shouldn't have let me see that " she said as she caught Artemis staring at her curiously.
"Why not?" Artemis asked
"Because if someone were to capture me or if someone can look into my mind...it's just not good to show someone else that power" she said
"You think that I would care about people seeing my abilities" Artemis cocked an eyebrow, "I don't care if I show everyone everything. I honestly don't think that it would matter."
"Why not?" Thronclaw asked not confused, "if someone were to attack you and they knew what you could do, you wouldn't be able to do anything against them"
"True, if I do manage to get into a fight with someone that can give me a hard time, I would be caught up in a stalemate, but I have a friend that can help me get out of those situations, and he doesn't like it when other hurt me" Artemis smiled at Thornclaw, causing her to shiver.
This human woman is scary she thought and Artemis just turned away and jumped onto her bed.
"Goodnight Thorn" she said and was immediately asleep. Thorn shook her head and looked at the sleeping form of Artemis.
"I promise you that I will join you someday" she whispered and then climbed into bed as well.
—————1st POV (Artemis) —————
I woke up to see that the sun was just starting to rise above the trees. And I looked over and saw that Thornclaw was still asleep, I didn't know how long dragon-people usually sleepy but I imagined that she wouldn't be getting up till well after lunch.
Are you up? I asked Stealthwave through our link and when I got no answer I frowned. Stupid dragon sleep schedules. I got up and changed my clothes with a snap, summoned a silver parka and put it on. And then I summoned all of my weapons, and stepped out of the room. The halls were actually surprisingly busy for this early in the morning.
There were few people up but the ones that were mainly walking around were either the ones that stayed up all night doing things, the drinkers that stumbled around, or the other Assassins and Adventurers who wanted an early start on the day for training and exploring.
I met up with Raea and the others in the dining hall and they all looked at me curiously.
"What?" I asked
"Why did you want to leave so badly yesterday during dinner, do you not like dragon meat?" Charm asked and I shook my head.
"Sorry but I promised someone that I wouldn't eat Dragon meat and that person is someone that I really care about" I said and Charm raised her brow in silent interest but didn't press any further. But that didn't stop one of the others from asking
"And why is that?" Raea asked and I shrugged coming up with a short lie.
"We weren't expensive enough to buy any and promised each other that when we were able to have some it would be together" I said and they all nodded their heads in understanding.
"Yeah I remember before I joined that I wanted to taste that delicate meat for so long when it was found to be the most expensive and nutritious meat there was" Sam said, drooling and looking at the sky with gluttonous eyes.
And I will definitely remember you saying that Stealthwave said through our link almost making me jump, I wonder what it's like being a Cannibal.
Oh shut up I growled back you know that was only a lie right?
Nope, and I'm definitely going to hold you up on that offer he said back and this time I growled aloud making the other look at me curiously, and confused.
"Sorry" I said and then looked around. All of the other people. Adventurers and Assassins were sitting at tables already, but there wasn't any food to be seen. "Why isn't there any food yet?" My question caused the others to look around and then at me and they grinned.
"The solution to that is simple" Raea said and the others continued to grin at me, "once you sit at the table you have to think about what you want to have at the moment and the amount of food that you get depends on your Mana and how much you want to use. Yesterday was a special occasion, but every meal here is the same, and most of the reasons why people don't have their food yet is because they are talking with their friends and/or figuring out what they want and if they need to combine their mana pools for it"
I looked at her shocked, "you can combine another person's mana along with your own? Isn't that dangerous?"
"Well normally it is, but there is a special device that each of the tables have for it" Sam said pointing at a see-through sphere on the middle of each section of a table area. "This little thing is able to hold up to four people's mana or hold up to 100,000 mana to either keep for later meals or use all at once for a big meal, and while getting dragon meat is possible through this thing. It's so much better if it's from the live creature first though"
"Oh, that's pretty cool" I said and Sam grinned and put the see-through sphere back into the middle of the table, where there was a small indentation in the middle of the section that half of the sphere fit into perfectly.
"So when are we leaving?" Trilithony asked and I looked at Raea
"Excited are we?" she said and I saw Trilithony nod, so I nodded as well. What was the harm in telling the truth from time to time.
"How long will it take for us to get there?" I asked and Raea hummed and thought for a second.
"Hmm. Wagon. Horses. Food. Rest." She muttered things that I assumed we would be needing and doing on the way and then she laughed, "a week at best, maybe longer if we end up running into some strong monsters on the way or if we are bombarded by hordes of monsters in the forests. There is the possibility of our horses also being taken as well and our carriage may be destroyed."
I looked at her in shock, a week in the least, why were a bunch of assassins even doing using wagons and horses to travel anyways? And why was she worried about monsters? Based on what they did as an initiation test of sorts, or whatever that was in the hallways of the women's rooms at the guild. They should have no problem dealing with any kind of monster we come across, not even hordes of them.
"Just kidding" Raea smirked and I growled at her, the others were also grinning at me, the knew that she was just messing with me?! I was so going to--"It should take us a minimum of three days to get there, unless we run into a dragon, or a monster as strong as a dragon that is"
"Wait how strong are dragons usually and what's the highest one you've all taken down as a team?" I asked and Raea grinned, but Trixie beat her to it.
"Most of the Dragons we see commonly are the centry old ones that are stupid enough to mess with the wrong 'prey', and those range from C ranked to A ranked creatures." She continued, "the stronger ones are in the tens of centuries and hundreds old. Those are usually smarter and only attack when we enter their caves, so their a bit harder to conquer, but those range from A ranked to S+ ranked." I was shocked, why were they a B ranked group if they were capable of taking down an S+ ranked dragon?
"You're probably wondering why were still a B ranked group right?" Raea said and I looked at her surprised once again and she just sighed and sat on the bench part of the tables. "Well there's no one in this area that can get us a test to anything higher than B ranked, and most of the cities around here are so far away and so busy that there's almost no point in even going to one since all were going to be doing is waiting for a while before we even get the chance to test for A ranked or higher status. It usually takes months depending on the amount of people wanting to test, and it can even take years at times"
"Why so long?" I asked and Raea looked at one of the other girls to explain it for me, and it seems that Sam took that upon herself to do.
"The people that run the tests need rest after every test, and with so many coming in their breaks delay the testing for weeks sometimes. If defeated the next group may have to wait a week or so before it's their turn, sometimes the person that is fought against retires or quits out of boredom. And other times they are able to fight at most three groups a week, but still take a day or two to rest and gather up their power for the next days' opponents" Sam said and I hummed in interest. These cities must be pretty big for that many groups wanting to take advancing tests to increase their group's rank.
"Has there ever been a dragon older than a hundred centuries that you've fought, or one higher than S+ class at least?" I asked and Raea shook her head.
"We've tried to find some, and even paired with other guilds to explore the most dangerous parts of the world for a chance to find at least one, but they don't seem to exist" she said and I didn't know what to think now. I was an SSS+ ranked person, a goddess, and it doesn't seem to be any dragons as strong as me or Stealthwave.
No there doesn't seem to be, Stealthwave's voice echoed through-out my head and I physically jumped at the sudden communication. So I guess we'll have to hide our power from the others to a certain degree, or at least tell them secretly where no one will hear and when we think they would be trustworthy enough to know.
Yeah it does seem like that doesn't it I said and Stealthwave's agreeing humming resounded through-out my mind.
"What are you doing in there Artemis?" Belle was suddenly right next to me and I didn't realize until she touched my shoulder. Of course my natural reaction to being touched without warning was to shoot the violator in the crotch or foot, but this time I materialized my hunting knives and had them at her throat.
I realized what I was doing and retracted the blades, and I made a show of putting them in my pants or something but really I just let them return to my domain storage area where most of the things I liked throughout time were held. The others noticed this and looked at me with slight awe, except for Belle, who was still surprised at what I had done from pure instinct.
"Sorry" I said to her and she just shook herself off a little and smiled at me.
"Don't worry about it" she said, "at least you stop yourself from cutting. I usually can't keep myself from drawing at least a little blood before realizing where and who I was with" she stepped up to me again and crossed her arms.
"What was that about?" she asked and I shook my head and sat at the table.
"I had had a very long life of men touching me without announcement or reason, so I grew to hate them and the habits of punishing them for the act are probably not going to be fading off anytime soon" I looked down at the table and then thought about what I wanted before the trip, and a plate of sausage and eggs appeared in front of me.
"Wait. How'd you do that?" Trixie asked looking at my plate of food suspiciously and slightly amazed.
"What? I just thought of what I wanted and it appeared in-front of me" I said before forming a fork of silver and beginning to eat with it.
"It doesn't work like that" Raea said coming up to me and I looked at her curiously and took a bite of eggs and sausage.
"No?" I asked and she shook her head.
"No you have to first infuse your mana into the Chrystal while thinking about the kind of meal that you want, and then the food appears" Raea said and I just looked at my plate of food on the silver plate, and then the Sphere and shrugged.
"I don't see the harm in my way" I said and continued to eat, and Sam as well as Belle muttered under their breath while walking to the other side to sit down.
"That's not normal"
"How can she do these kinds of things"
I could hear them thanks to my acute developed hearing and lifetimes of honing my senses and skills to fit my needs as a Goddess, and the fact that I was now considered a Primordial along with Stealthwave only increased what I had already learned and developed into further perfection. And there was the fact that I couldn't die unless my mate, Stealthwave died as well, so I didn't see anything to worry about.
At least I didn't think I had anything to worry about, I did believe that Stealthwave was going to mess with the others in some way, but I don't think it would be that bad.
We were done eating around high sun and since I didn't know the time normally I had to use the domain of time to figure out what time it really was, and I found that high sun was around one forty-three in the afternoon here compared to earth's time. We put all of our things away, of which I just let my things disappear into my Domain where they would stay perfectly clean and ready for me to bring out whenever I wanted to, and the what's better is that anything related to food was instantly turned into nothingness.
-------------Stealthwave's POV-----------------
I was walking around in the forest after sleeping at the bottom of the little oasis that I had found randomly in the middle of the forest I was in, I was still monitoring Artemis just in case I needed to flash over to her if she was in danger, but nothing seemed to be wrong so I had nothing to worry about for the moment.
What was I doing again?
Oh yeah, I was walking around the forest after my little nap to see if I could find something to eat, as an experiment to see how raw meat tasted like, and also just because I was hungry. And if I didn't like it freshly killed I could always burn it to my liking afterwards.
I keep on getting distracted, stupid dragon brain, and speaking of Dragon brains I saw something shiny on my walk around for prey and so, naturally, I went over to see what it was and it turned out to be a gem on the ground. It was a shiny green gem that looked perfect to give as a gift to Artemis later, but as soon as I got close enough to grab it. The stupid gem teleported away.
I followed after it and after two of three more teleport away I started getting irritated. I really hoped that that gem was real and not just an illusion of whatever trap I was walking into right now. I followed it for three more teleportation, of which after the second one I noticed that I had left the forest and come into some sort of canyon, and the final teleport was in the middle of a sketchy looking dead end with a giant circle, a dome overhead with a small exit point, and only the one entrance into the area.
I tried to act like a normal animal would and stopped just before the entrance into the giant trap area before looking around and up like I was checking for anything waiting in view. And seeing nothing I walked forwards and towards the gem that was now floating in the middle of the arena enticingly.
I 'pounced' on it trying to make my actions as animal as possible, just a clueless creature walking into the end of it's days, and I was surprised when I felt that the gem was real. I grabbed it in my claws and raised it up before tucking it underneath me and sending it into my Void Storage to retrieve later.
Suddenly there was a rumbling and I looked behind me to see that a large wall had slid over the only entrance/exit point into this trap, other than flying out, but that would be too predictable and I wanted to at least 'seem' smarter than a normal animal. I wanted a good fight, and hopefully this was going to be something both good to fight, and eat. I was still really hungry and my stomach reminded me of that by rumbling aloud. Well hopefully whatever creature it was that set up this trap heard that and was going to make their move soon.
I looked up and around again, I didn't want to ruin the mood by using my powers to see what it was that was trying to ambush me. That takes away the surprise factor, and I didn't know many of the animals that lived on this planet so naturally I wanted to see them in the flesh instead of sensing them with my powers first.
I felt something coming at my back and I looked back just as something came out of it's invisible state and slammed into my back. I growled as the creature bit into the base of my wings, 'disabling' them, and I didn't heal them to make this seem like the creature had caught me by surprise, and because it might teach me something later about fighting certain opponents.
"Stupid dragon" a voice hissed from all around me, this dome was doing wonders for aesthetics and scary moods, "all hungry and alone, and yet instead of hunting like you should've you fell for my trap and now you will die"
A large shape flew from my right and I just rolled my eyes and rolled towards them, tucking my wings in and letting their figure fly over me. A look of shock obvious on their face as their maw tracked my movement as they sailed over my body.
I stood up as the landed and with a quick turn, pounced at me again, this time lower just in case I tried something like that, but also able to quickly land and get me should I try to fly away or move to the sides to dodge as well. This creature was very smart, and it made me wonder why they were living here instead of going somewhere else with more prey and better circumstances.
Instead of dodging like they probably expected me to I rushed forwards and met them just as their front paws touched the ground. My night-vision eyes were helping me a little but I could only see some of their body as most of it had a ghostly appearance to it that allowed it to be see through and probably naturally harder to track. The tips of their paws were also invisible, both of the front and back ones, and the tip of the tail as well as the middle was also invisible.
The mid body only showed the bottom and top half with the middle being invisible, and the neck also being invisible, but their amber eyes with green slits told me that this creature was feline, well other than that and it's purring voice and cat-like form.
I tackled it to the ground and pinned it down by the shoulders, and grinned at it.
"Did you really think taking down a dragon as going to be an easy task?" I asked and the creature looked at me in shock.
"B-but you were acting like a--" it began and I smiled.
"Looks can be deceiving, come on. a Seasoned hunter like you should know this" I asked and it smiled this time.
"You're right" it said, "I do." Suddenly a giant colored circle appeared around me and beams of energy shot from the floating runes and hit my body. When the dust cleared I could tell that that was it's last attempt at killing me, I guess this creature was more of an ambush predator instead of a hunter, and that magic it used was powerful, and painful. Five beams of red energy going at a constant rate that could probably injure some of the strongest creatures on this planet easily, and though it might not be a killing blow it would definitely be something that gave the feline creature underneath me an advantage into either running away or finishing off the opponent quickly.
"Ow" I growled as the five holes that had drilled through my scales and deep into my body healed slowly. The feline creature still pinned underneath me was shocked deeply now, and scared. "Surely by now you can tell that I am much, much stronger than you right?" I looked down at it and it was still shocked with disbelief.
"That. That would've killed anything even twenty five levels above me" it said and I cocked my head.
"And what are you?" I asked and it shrank a little now knowing that I had it at my mercy.
"I'm an A class Phanther" it said blankly, "what are you going to do to me?" It sounded strangely female now that I thought about it.
I stepped off of the Phanther and groaned as my stomach rumbled again loudly, causing the creature to flinch and shrink away from me, still on it's back no less.
"Well I'm not going to eat you that's for sure" I said slightly annoyed. I was really hoping this creature wasn't sentient enough to speak, it would've made making this trap into my benefiting meal much more pleasing.
"W-why not?" it asked rolling onto it's stomach still seemingly afraid that I'd change my mind.
"Well the first reason would be because you are speaking to me" I said walking around the cave wondering if there was anything else I would like for either myself or to give to Artemis. "And the second reason would be because you seem like you'd make a good ally and a strong one at that too. It seems like not many creatures pass the B rank threshold, and the fact that you're part Phantom only makes you even more valuable for hunting high-danger targets that would be able to sense me coming."
"But you knew that I was here" it said now standing up and watching me cautiously as I inspected the walls. "And you beat me in an unfair fight, an ambush. Aren't you mad?"
I held up the Green gem that I had gotten for my troubles with a claw and shook my head before letting the gem disappear once again and go into my Void Storage.
"Nope" I scratched at a slightly shinier part of the cave wall, but it turned out to be nothing. "I got what I came for, so I really don't have a reason to be mad. Your ambush was rather fun after being inactive from fighting for so long, and as I said. You'd make for an amazing ally."
"So you're not going to eat me?" it asked and I sighed and looked at the Phanther
"No I am not going to eat you" I said firmly looking into it's eyes and that seemed to get the creature out of it's mood and it shuddered for a moment before leaping into the air and floating. I looked at it for a second slightly amazed, and then I went back to looking at the cave walls.
"What are you looking for?" it asked watching me curiously from where it lay floating ten feet off of the ground.
"I am looking for shinies" I said, "I'm a dragon what else do you think I would be looking for in a dark cave area like this?"
"I don't know" the Phanther said, "food, a way out, and yeah, I guess Gems or similar treasure as well"
"Nah" I pointed my tail into the dome above and let some energy charge into the tip of it, and a large beam of light erupted from the tip and evaporated the dome above us. The Phanther looked at me with scared eyes. Probably regretting attacking me or something like most creatures did when seeing what a creature stronger than them could do.
"Just how strong are you?" it asked seemingly cautiously as I dispersed the power coming from the tip of my tail, and seeing that there was nothing here on the surface I used my powers to see through the rocks if there was some hidden space of vault filled with treasure, but nothing was in the cave. Nothing at all.
I looked at the Phanther before realizing I hadn't actually seen how strong I was in this world.

"I am a Cosmic Dragon at levels higher than you would think possible" I said and decided to make my way up the mountain slowly. I had all the time in the world, and I also wanted to see how it felt climbing up a cliff like a spider, or anything else that can climb up vertically that is. The Phanther seemed to float up slowly with me as I dug my claws into the rock, easily cutting through it's surface like butter and climbing up the wall feet at a time.
"Why aren't you just flying up? It would surely be faster than climbing up like you are currently doing" the Phanther said and I bobbed my head indifferently.
"I'm not in a hurry to get somewhere, so why shouldn't I take my time doing such things?" I challenged and the Phanther hummed in thought and then my stomach growled again and I growled.
"Oh, right" I said, "that's why." I opened my wings and shot up the rest of the way and into their air before the Phanther had even been able to react, and lucky for me there was a heard of deer-like creatures not too far away. I dived back down and opened my wings to glide to the surface of the large cavern that the Phanther was still floating up.
"There's a heard of creatures over there that I think would be some good practice" I said and the Phanther cocked it's head.
"Practice?" it asked and I nodded about to go off before remembering something.
"Oh I forgot to ask, but what's your name?" I turned to the Phanther and it grinned and it's emerald eyes flashed with pride.
"My name is Rubidia" the Phanther said proudly "and I will be the first She-Phanther to reach S Class Status."
(So there it is, I hope you made it this far and didn't fall asleep halfway through. I made this chapter extra long due to the fact that I haven't updated in so long and I have had many requests for this story over those in Tortured Warrior. And just because after rereading chapter 13 to 15 I realized that I was in the writing mood for this story over my others. Writers Block for me is Very strange.
I am able to write one story because I haven't looked at it in a while, but if I look at or try to write one of the stories I had been recently working on I get brain-dead and have to play a few games on my phone, read, or watch a little TV before going back to try again an end up with the same result. Usually ending with going to bed instead of trying again).
Sorry for the long Author's note, and if you've read the entire thing I thank you for your dedication to my writing and I will let you know how long this story is now:
Roughly three hours of writing, not including distractions from the TV, work-time writing, and partial editing time.
5,312 words
A brain dead author who is now going to go and dig a five foot deep grave, bury it in, and then retire to my bed to regrow another one.
