Chapter 14

Artemis' POV

We flew for a short while talking about what had happened earlier and then it turned into laughing, mainly me, at the fact that Stealthwave got stuck in a mountain. In fact we were so distracted that we almost didn't see the city until we were practically on top of it. Stealthwave dived so fast once we saw we were in the range of the city's eyesight. He practically crashed into the land on purpose, causing us both to sit in a large crater of our creation dazed.

I was the first one to shake myself out of it, and once I brushed myself off I punched Stealth in the maw, making him snap out of it as well and into defensive mode looking around for threats. Then he realized what had happened and he sat and rubbed his maw with a paw, and I smirked at his mock offended look once he realized that I'd punched him.

What was that for?! He yell-whined through the link and I cringed slightly at the loudness of his voice and then I smacked him lightly, or tried to at least. He jumped back out of range, and I rolled my eyes and climbed out from the crater he had created.

"That was for crashing us into the damn ground you stupid fool" I growled and he raised an ear.

Huh? What? I don't think I heard your thank-you correctly he grinned toothlessly and I huffed and shot an arrow at him, making him duck as it passed by over his head. He walked over to me cautiously and we both looked at the walls of the city in thought.

From what I saw on the mountains, there one giant outer wall as the only thing protecting the entire city, and the entire place is just a maze of buildings, alleys, and shops. There were two bigger buildings in the city from what I saw, a library and a city hall maybe...or something like that Stealth stated reading my mind as I wondered what the structure of the city was. I nodded in thanks absentmindedly and then turned to him making him look at me curiously.

"Unless you can turn into a human again, I won't be able to bring you in with me" I said to him and he nodded

I know that, just don't give me a reason to tear in there and destroy the place to look for you I smiled at his protectiveness, but I formed two knives in my hands and motioned to my bow, which was hanging on my back with the string diagonally crossing over my chest, and he rolled his eyes.

"I'll be fine" I said letting the knives disappear and Stealth looked around for a bit at the trees around us and the plain that we were in before leaping forwards and jumping into a tree before dipping his head under the branch he was on to look at me.

I'll be at the edge of the forest just in case you need help he said and then shot forwards into the forest without a single noise following him. I shook my head at his protectiveness and then shot into the forest after him, in the direction of the city. I reached the edge of the forest without a problem, and I saw more crops in front of me, surrounding the entire city. I guess even they needed to grow things on their own just in case trading didn't go well that year. I looked around for Stealth, but didn't see him anywhere near, and instead I saw a road to my right. It looked like the entrance into the city. When I got to it I looked towards the city and found their gates open and accepting to anyone that came around.

When I was in sight of the two guards by the entrance they both stepped forwards, drawing steel swords with glowing symbols on them and their metal armor. I didn't know what kind of metal it was but I was going to know what it and the symbols all over them were soon enough. The two men stopped me about ten feet from the entrance and I looked at them with raised hands, just to show that I meant no harm.

"What is your purpose here?" the left one with a shield attached to his right hand asked and I put my hands down slowly to rest at my sides casually.

"I've come a lone way, I'm just looking for a place to stay and some trading if possible" I said and they looked at one another for a second before stepping back and sheathing their swords.

"Okay then" he said and looked me over "well first you don't look like you have much on you, besides that bow, which may sell for a little bit of coin, but not much. Either way there are no weapons allowed here, so well have to confiscate that and any other weapon on your person." I scoffed and looked at them to see if they were joking, but I took off my bow and handed it to them before, taking out the knives I had in my waist, throwing and combat, and then the ones hidden in my boots, cloak, and back. When I was done they had absolutely no arm space what so ever, and they were looking at me in shock.

"What? A woman can't have a lot of weapons?" I snapped and they just asked for anything else before stepping aside with eyes filled with fear, good, don't you underestimate me again you stupid gate guards.

"O-okay, hope you find what you're looking for here in Alverrose City" the guard without a the shield said and I walked through the two of them, practically pushing them out of the way as I went past them. I didn't hear Stealthwave at all, and that was making me wonder where he was and what he was doing.

I passed the threshold into the city and stopped, I had no idea where I wanted to go, or where I could go. I looked either way and then straight, and turned left before going into an alleyway and climbing the gutters of a house to get onto it's roof. Then I proceeded to jump buildings, staying out of sight while I looked around. I heard a feminine scream and I went over to it, it was just the scream of a surprised woman through the window of her home because the man surprised her by hugging and picking her up out of nowhere. I scowled and continued to make my way through the city, jumping roofs, looking down alleyways, finding markets, street fighting, and then I got somewhere where I think I wanted to be at.

I jumped off from the roof that I was on, and went into the main street heading towards the place with a metal helmet on the sign hanging above a armor stand with a suit of armor already in display. A crappy piece, so I didn't have high expectations to begin with as I entered the place. Once I opened the door I was met with an open area with only a couple of stands on the walls to my right along the wall all the way down and there was a desk with a single figure standing there reading a newspaper in a chair behind the seat.

I cleared my throat and the newspaper dropped to show a man with whiskers, feline eyes, Brown and Orange Cat ears, and a Brown, White, and Orange tail that I didn't notice before hanging behind him. I held myself from gasping in shock at this, I had never seen this before. in fact I didn't even think that this was possible.

"What? Never seen my kind before?" the man asked and I snapped out of my shock and shook my head.

"Sorry, no I haven't seen your kind before, I'm sorry for staring" I said and the cat-man seemed to calm down and soften at this.

"Okay so you're new around here, that's obvious to say in the least" he said "I'm surprised you didn't get swarmed with men on your way here." I set my eyes and growled at the thought of men cornering me and causing a fight.

"Woah, woah, calm down there" the cat man must've sensed this because he apologized for stating that and then asked me what he could help me with.

"I am actually just looking" I said "didn't know if there are any good sets of armor that I can grab here that'll suit my needs, or if I need to make some myself, or get some from my husband" I said and the cat man raised an eye-brow at this.

"You forge?" He asked and I shrugged

"I help with the design and sometimes with the heavy work if there's a lot to do" I said, it was an wasn't the truth, really I just conjured up armor, even though I knew how to make them myself, by hand.

"Well that's gonna get you a job quick around here" he said and I looked at him curiously, "there aren't many god blacksmiths in this city, all of them either went to fight with the adventurers, or went to another city for better work."

"What's an adventurer, I mean besides the fact that they are always traveling?" I asked and the cat man was a little taken a back at this.

"Wow you are really new then to not know what Adventurers are" he said and then leaned down and grabbed a paper from under his desk "here, this'll get you into the guild here, you'll find almost everything you need to know there."

"Aaah, I take it you don't know what a guild is or looks like either huh?" He asked and I shook my head making him rub the back of his head, "it's kind of hard to explain, but there you sign up to become an adventurer, and they determine what class you fit into, Mage or Sorcerer, Swords-man, Bow-man, Soldier, et cetra."

"Thanks" I said and grabbed the paper before stuffing it in my cloak and turning to leave

"You can't get lost going there, just take every main street west and it'll be right in front of you" he said "be careful though, there are some pretty nasty people out there on the prowl"

"I know" I said opening the door, and then I turned back to look at him one more time before leaving fully "thanks sir, I hope we'll meet again"

"Aye" was all I heard before stepping out the door and heading down the main roads and taking every direction that would bring me west. He was right, it was right in front of me before long, and the giant white building plated with gold, silver, and other metals was probably the brightest place here. I went up to it and stepped inside, where it was even bigger than it looked on the outside, there were stairs leading all over the place, in the middle was a sort of lounge area, where people already were sitting at. There was a counter with a receptionist behind it, a lady with black hair and emerald eyes.

I presented her the ticket that the cat man gave me and she hummed with interest and then flicked her fingers. The invitation burned to ash and she looked at me again as I stood there looking at the empty space the invitation used to be in shock. Why did that burn like that? Why wasn't there anything left? Where did it go if it didn't burn away? Did she just use magic?

"You look a little flustered" the receptionist said making me look at her with shock, and I almost forgot why I was there until she spoke again that is. "I have a place set for you to stay, Edward doesn't usually give out his private invitations into the guild, but I guess you seem to be an exception"

"Um. Where am I going to be sleeping?" I asked and she looked at me like I was crazy

"You're gonna be sleeping where everyone else a part of the guild sleeps, in the personal quarters of the guild" she said and I looked at her and she sighed and pointed in the direction that I was to go. "Down there, turn left, take the elevator, or the stairs down to the second underground level, and then follow the female signs till you reach the rooms. You must've come from a long ways away, even people that don't live in a guild know about where the rooms are. Where are you from?"

I thanked her and moved on without answering her question, and took the elevator because that seemed like it was the quickest way down and up, and partially because I wanted to see if their elevators were different, but they were actually smoother than I thought they would be. The doors opened and I stepped out and followed the signs that I thought lead to the sleeping quarters. I summoned my weapons to me, no doubt confusing whoever was in charge of watching them, and went down a dark hallway that looks like it hadn't been used in a long time, but as soon as I stepped into the hallway the entire place changed.

There were women and girls talking to one another, the lights were bright and shining already, and the hallways were filled with countless amounts of talking women. Some weren't even human, I saw Elves light and dark skinned, maybe attributes according to their appearance, Cat girls, bulky women in thick metal armor, women in cloaks with lots, and lots of weapons hidden everywhere on their person. When I walked past a door it suddenly opened, no one was inside of it at the moment, and I was the only one that had walked past it. The lady didn't tell me about how the rooms worked, didn't even give me a key, so I guessed that this was it.

I walked inside and suddenly the lights turned on and some sort of virtual screen appeared in front of me and on top of different items in the room, including on the still open door.

(I'm just simply too lazy to list everything that I could possible think of, and everything above was f*****g HARD to think about without having to look at other stories, I want to have my own stats, tell me of others that I can add, I'm fine with that)
(Also to those that disagree with this stats, I'M NEW AT THIS SORT OF THING SO DON'T GIVE ME CRAP ABOUT IT...that aside they are gods, technically higher than gods actually, so deal with the wack stats. I'll fix them later when I understand anything about the logistics about any of it)

I thought about the screen going away so that I didn't have to see all of the information about everything in the room, even the beds, floor, ceiling, and tiles of the walls had status. It was simply too much to take in all at once, and thankfully the screen went away and I explored the room, with the door open. I didn't really care about closing it, it opened on it's own for some reason, and it should be able to close on it's own without my needed interaction with it.

When I left the room again the hallway was empty and dim, I was just out here and there were tons of other women. I immediately got out my hunting knives, there wasn't enough room in this hallway to fight with a bow, even if the edges had extended blades on them. I closed my eyes and used my senses, there were six: two on either side, one upfront another at back, and one on either side hanging upside down from the ceiling.

I saw the two up front duck as something thin and fast came above them, I just raised my knives so the flat part of the knives were blocking their path's, and then something bright interrupted my 'vision'. I quickly flipped my knives over and though about what I could do. I was on a different planet, with magic, and I was an immortal above anything else's level or status. I flipped my knives so they were flush against my forearms, and then I raised my arms in either direction as two beam of light shot down from the two hanging from the ceiling.

As I expected, shields formed on each of my forearms, blocking the beams of energy and reflecting them off. The two detached themselves from the ceiling and shot back behind the archers, who had shifted forwards a couple feet. They shot again and the two closer to me, both wielding dual hunting knives similar to mine, rushed forwards, dodging to the side just as the arrow reached them, making it fly centimeters from their sides, and continue on it's path. I flipped my knives back but didn't will the shields to go away.

The next couple of minutes was a blur, I kept my eyes closed because I didn't trust them open in what I believed was this illusion of darkness in the hallways. I stuck, blocked, dodged, blocked, and looked for openings. The assassin on my left, a woman had struck with both knives, one aiming for the center of my chest, and the other sweeping from the top right down, leaving her open on the right side, and center. I moved to the side as her weapon came forwards, and blocked the top as I kicked the second woman on my right's leg in, causing her to lose her balance and fall backwards. Then I turned my knife around and smashed the hilt into the first woman's chest just under her breasts.

The second woman stumbled backwards as the first one fell down, shocked holding her chest, but I wasn't done. I took advantage of the second's off-balance moment, and moved her to the left of me while holding her head with one hand, letting my blade drop and disappear. My other arm went under her armpit and I had the point of the blade at the bottom of her chin. My arms were down so I just willed the shields to grow bigger and curve around. Completely covering us in an impenetrable shield and with her as my captive inside of it.

They all stopped, and I firmed my grip, making it so that she couldn't maneuver out of it easily, and certainly without notice, and a blade in her face. She knew that too, and I gave her credit for freezing, only moving to blink and swallow. I sensed that the darkness was slowly receding so I slowly opened my eyes to see everyone against the walls clapping and cheering, leaving me confused. The first women came up holding her chest and then she extended her hand, expecting me to take it or something. I didn't move and when she saw that I was expecting her to try something and move to kill me after I let the second woman go. She was still rigid, and breathing rather hard, I on the other hand was perfectly fine, and ready to let this go on for days.

"Relax fellow friend, it was not a real attempt, you can let my friend go now" she assured, putting away her knives to show it, and, slowly, I took my knife away from the second one's throat and let it drop. Causing it to disappear and return to my belt, her friend fell from my grip into the other's arms, out cold.

"I guess that was a little more than she could handle" the first woman said and then the others came up. Everyone had stopped clapping and were now going back to their original conversations.

"Oh yeah, my name's Raea, I'm the leader of this group of assassins: Sam and Trixie, our snipers, Belle and Charm are our mid range archers, and this is Trilithony, my apprentice" Raea said and then extended her hand, "were a B+ ranked group in this guild, females only, but we do have male 'counter-parts', but we don't really interact or team up with them very much. Anyways, this was a test, and seeing as you passed with flying bolts, I want to have you in my team"

You should do it, sounds fun Stealthwave's voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts and I mentally hardened and scolded him.

Where in Tartarus have you been, I was starting to worry about you I growled at him

Woah, woah, I was just observing you, tracking you with my earth powers really, but I can hear them thanks to out connection allowing me to see through your eyes or hear what is around you he said and I mentally growled and cursed him again before severing the link and refocusing on Raea.

"I'll accept your offer" I said but held up my hand as she smiled with pride "but I do not want any more surprise attacks from anyone on the team"

"That's fine, this is the only test any of us have to go through, so you're fine, parties can go up to eight people, so were only allowed two more strong, experienced members, and you'll definitely be able to teach us all something" she said and I took her hand, compliments first thing, okay then. Only eight allowed in a party, but how were they about marriage.

"Raea I want to ask you something real quick" I said causing her to turn back to me expectantly

"How do you feel about a married member?"

Mwahahahaha, so I made this chapter a little longer than normal because i haven't updated this story in ages and I'm betting that many of you have been waiting for another update, so thanks for that, and for not blowing up my notifications tab with update requests :P, but I hope that you liked this chapter...and cliffhanger, and I'll be on writing the next part.

Also who else out there is getting tired of being stuck at home, being unable to go to school or anywhere else really, just because of this ANNOYING VIRUS?
