Chapter 13
Shout-outs to @Avendrial, @tales_of_beasts1, @NatuzPL, and @AlldaladiesluvLeoHoO for the awesome ideas and Positive feed about the future of this book, as well as the other unlisted people that have read this book, voted on it, and have waiting patiently (or quietly impatiently) for another chapter.
So I was going to go with the Red Queen Series since that, after reading it and realizing that I have read it before and that it is an awesome series, and it goes along with the main ideas that I have for my future plans. I tried it out for a little while and a lucky five hundred people got to see it, but didn't give any feedback on it so I am just going with something that I've been reading about in other books for a while now: reincarnation (none of that in this one tho), magic, guilds, dungeons, monsters, and...I think you understand it at least a little bit now. I'm sorry if I let the people that were expecting me to continue the Red Queen idea, but I think that this idea will be able to go by smoother.
Here it goes.
Stealthwave's POV
Purple and Black swirled around us both, the colors of the portal realm, as I call it, it may be called something different in another place but...stupid dragons brain was always getting me off track.
The feeling of Artemis' arms around me neck was loosening and I could feel something pulling us through the dimension between dimensions, if that makes sense. I turned around to see her arms slip, and I roared after her as she went flying from my back. My entire body went into autopilot and I didn't even think before entering the blue-green hued hole in my travel dimension.
"Stealth!" Artemis cried out just before being sucked into the rip, and I soon followed. Exiting the portal was a lot colder than I was used to and then I realized that I wasn't just entering a cold place. I was stuck in ice!
I used my powers over water and fire to heat up the water and evaporated it, letting me move forwards, inch by inch. I was trying to go slow as to not collapse the entire tunnel behind and on top of me, of which I didn't know I would get out of, and I hoped that Artemis was waiting out side for me. I didn't feel her inside of the ice with me, and that was a relief, I just hoped that she didn't end up somewhere that would get her into trouble before I even got the chance to discuss with her if this was going to be a planet where we were the good or the bad guys.
I could feel the end of the tunnel getting closer and I smelled air...there was a break in here somewhere, and one that was leaking air to the outside as well. I stopped for a moment to catch my breath, the air was getting thinner and thinner in here and pretty soon I would have to breath in a large bubble of water gathered from the surrounding ice and rock around me. I was thinking that this was a large mountain and it was really starting to annoy me. Where is that crack leading to the outside, I needed to find it, and soon.
Artemis' POV
I appeared in the middle of some sort of field, and immediately my domain over nature told me that this was farmland, a wheat field, and the nearest place to go was thirty miles to the north, how in the world was there even that much land to cover, and how long did it take for them to plant all of these seeds.
I started to walk, immediately hoping that they had some kind of vehicle that I could grab on the way, but the nearest source of metal that I felt, using the joint powers with Stealth, was a large sort of metal beam. I felt a little silver in it as well as iron and steel, but what was the strangest thing was that the entire structure was formed in a sort of tunnel-like beam that went through the entirety of the field, with beams to hold it up every half hundred feet or so and the sides were open. each side in-between beams having a hundred or so half foot circles in their sides with a little lip on the bottom pointing upwards a little.
I change my walking path slightly to reach one of the poles holding up the large tunnel, and I put a hand on it and closed my eyes. The metal gave me a large picture of how large this field truly was and I breathed in surprise. It all went to a center point just past the house that I felt in the distance and then split off in every nautical direction that would be on a map. I took my hand off of the beam and started walking again. Then I looked up trying to find the placement of the sun to see how long I had left of the day and I saw that it was just slightly past the point directly at the top of the sky. So I started to run, almost half of the day was over and I did not want to be caught outside in a strange world with strange things.
------------------
I reached the house just as the sun was starting to get past the trees in the distance and I was about to knock on the door when I saw that it wasn't just a single house, but an entire town and no one was outside. Even though it was still light out, and I immediately took out a knife and my bow, notching an arrow as soon as I noticed. It was so quiet and I did not like it at all.
Stealthwave where are you? I asked in my mind-link with him and I could feel how tired he was. Where did he end up.
I don't know he said I'm so graciously been trapped inside of a giant mountain of ice and have been using my powers for the past couple hours trying to carefully dig my way out without collapsing the entire dam thing on me.
Great I said
What's happening? I can feel your unease he asked and I was shocked for a second, but quickly brushed it away.
I may or may not have walked into a large trap, and I have no idea what I am up against I said not even bothering to dim it down a little.
Do you have all of your weapons? He asked and I nodded absentmindedly before realizing that he wouldn't be able to see that
I think so, I don't believe that I lost anything at the moment I heard a shuffling behind my back and I quickly pivoted and turned around, squatting with a knee on the ground and my bow aimed at the area where the sound was. Nothing, and yet there were dark spots in the edged of my vision, like something was sucking the light around it and turning it into a shield of darkness, of which was quickly descending as the sun of this world set.
I rose to my feet, still alert to every noise and then darkness came, and though I expected it, it came too early and too quick for it to be the sun setting alone. It hit me like a wave, just instant darkness and my eyes immediately adjusted to the darkness covering me to reveal salutes of people with their hands raised towards me and I growled. How dare they try and take advantage of me and ambush me.
I loosed arrow after arrow, all of them piercing through the darkness and severing through each of the salutes that were trying to block my vision, and I felt the darkness covering me lessen more and more as they fell. Soon there were thirteen groaning-in-pain men around me dressed in what looked like chain-mail armor, and others had chest-plates on. I walked over to the nearest one and lifted him up by the chain-mail covering his chest.
"Who are you?" I asked and he scowled
"I was just about to ask you that" he spit and I just socked him in the face, causing his head to snap to the side and his entire body to stop moving. I don't think that I killed him, but if I did, he attacked me first, so I'm not at fault for that...not entirely anyways. I could've just walked away at that but instead I looked around to the one that looked the weakest and I went over to them and ripped off their helmet, it crumpled under my fist and I threw it away, but not before looking at it in confusion. Why was I stronger than I should be on this world than in the others, maybe it was because of the different atmosphere, or it was because of Stealth, but either way I wasn't about to pass it by as nothing and not use it to my advantage.
"Where am I?" I snarled leaning over this one's face with my foot on his chest-plate, and he tried to hide his fear, and he did it well in his face, but his eyes betrayed him. "Well?"
"Y-you're in one of the villages that we've taken over" he sputtered and I cocked my head. Why would someone take over a village? Especially one that had no defenses or, apparently, people?
"And where is that?" I asked and he sputtered again, this time with disbelief and a couple others looked just as confused as he did. I stood up and walked to the middle of them as they all stood up and then began to hop over to others and help them up as well. Once they all were on their feet and looking at me I was already aiming an arrow at the strongest looking one, the leader no doubt.
"Now that I think of it, I don't remember this place even having a name to start with" the leader said cockily, so faster than he could see, or react to. I threw a knife at his face. The hilt hit him in the dead center of his forehead, and he fell to the ground out cold.
"Anyone else want to joke around will get the same treatment" I said as I pointed the knife that I threw at them as it disappeared from the ground beside the guys' head and into my hand. I wasn't worried about showing my powers here, after all they all had powers as well and there was bound to be some one with similar powers as me. I twirled the knife as the next one spoke.
"Why in the world would we, a bunch of thieves and murderers want to know the name of a place that we are robbing and taking over?" Another big one said smugly, proud of his heritage no doubt, and I threw a knife, this time the point sunk into his forehead and he fell to the ground dead. I didn't even bother summoning back the knife because I wanted his 'friends' to see what happens when you back-talk to me. One of them was eyeing me and I didn't like it. They all flinched as he fell, another knife on the ground in-front of his head, and then looked at me in anger. I could do whatever I wanted to them and they couldn't do anything about it. Lest they get an arrow to the heart, a knife in their skull, or decapitated and they knew that too, which made it even more fun to interrogate them for information.
"What was that for?" one of them asked and I put on a bored smile.
"I didn't like the way he was looking at me, and the other one called you all a bunch of murderers and thieves, so don't you agree that he had it coming?" I recalled the knife on the ground in-front of the second unconscious male and twirled it in my fingers. Then I looked around and saw a small bench a couple feet away and I went over to it, careful to keep the all of the bandits in my vision, even the unconscious and dead ones. I saw a couple of them relax a little as they mistook me sitting down as a non-threatening gesture.
"So I am in a place that none of you know the name or location to, so where are all of the people that used to live in this town?" I gestured to the empty town around me, and the gradually darkening sky.
"We killed them all, they couldn't do any more for us than cost us food, time, and living space" one of the younger, inexperienced, and cocky ones spat at me, and I glared at him, causing him to shrink to the back of the group looking at me with fear as I casually played with my knives.
"Okay then, so I guess that it doesn't really matter if I let you live or not then does it?" I asked standing up and pulling out my bow before aiming at them.
I am out, and heading towards you I heard Stealth in my mind temporarily stopping me from letting loose arrows upon all of them.
Be careful. I don't know how many other people there are here that have the ability to manipulate shadows like these people can I said and noticed that their leader was starting to wake up. They all started to take out the arrows in their legs and heal themselves, well, except for the dead guy in front of all of them. My next suspicion was correct, they had healing powers too, I wasn't surprised, but rather slightly awed at this discovery.
Are you flying here? I asked Stealth and his growl told me no, and I could feel the ground starting to shake, and the stalks of wheat were parting for something, but I barely gave it any attention as I stared at the leader of the thirteen--twelve in-front of me. They were starting to get bolder seeing that they outnumbered me and thought that for some reason they could overwhelm me with their numbers. Yeah that's smart, completely disregard the fact that I single handedly took down all of you with little effort.
Stealth's POV
I stalked through the tall crops around me, going slowly as to not alert the twelve blocking my path to Artemis. I slowly circled until I saw a clear path to grab Artemis and run out of there, or rush to her side and defend her if necessary.
Breaking out that mountain took a lot of energy out of me, even though I was used to that kind of stuff, I guess having to work that hard to dig my way out of something long and miles thick is much more taxing than I thought it was. As soon as I broke through to the outside I immediately collapsed on the snow covered ground for a second, and caught my bearings.
I looked around and saw a city to my east, the direction that Artemis was calling me from, and I figured that flying wouldn't be the est of ideas, even if I could do so faster than a human eye can see. Who knows if there is a superhuman ability in this new world that let someone see, process, and move faster than normal. So I decided to run there, and once I figured out that Artemis was past the city I went around it and continued to travel in the direction I could feel Artemis was.
Anyways, now able to see that Artemis was getting surrounded, I cut a few stalks in the direction that I was traveling in to let her know that I am going to be coming on her left side. Then she stood up and I was about to run forwards and grab her when she stepped towards the superhuman people with her bow out and ready. The person up front stopped, making the others behind him stop as well, and I used my heightened senses to make out what was happening.
"We have you outnumbered, so how about you just put down that weapon and submit to us, and we'll forget that you killed one of our own" he said and I scoffed, she was not letting him say that to her, no way. An arrow flew from her bow and went through his head, the point sticking out the back, yep, thought so.
The others around were at first confused at this and then they turned angry and started to come forwards at a faster pace, splitting up to surround her. And I took that as the time to come interfere, and it only took me a millisecond to appear in front of them all. With Artemis already on my back, and looking at them smugly. I looked back at her as the others fell to the ground from shock, and then started to back away in fear.
Is that a smug look see on your face? I teased and Artemis just grinned not even trying to hide it but we didn't get to continue as the bandits started rambling.
"Y-You. You t-tamed a-an SS+ class d-dragon?!" I looked at him in annoyance, but she just pat me neck.
"No, I did not tame him" she said "he is my husband." I looked at her in surprise, so straight and forwards about that, geez. This caused the bandits to have a second of laughter, but it didn't last very long as me as Artemis just jumped off of my back and waved her hand forwards. I didn't waste a second as I launched forwards and tore into each and every one of them, when I was done the area was a mess of blood and limbs, and Artemis was kneeling by one of the bigger unconscious bandits and she'd just taken out a silver knife from his back.
What did he do you you? I asked looking at her curiously, I thought that he was already dead like the other two next to him so I just jumped over him to get to the remaining ten left. Artemis cleaned off her knife and let it disappear into the void.
"He was looking at me funny, so I knocked him out before all of this happened, and I was contemplating on letting him live to spread the word that there are new bosses in town, but then I figured that he'd just be killed anyways, and everything here basically tells them everything. Something huge attacked and ripped them all apart after they had taken over a village and killed everyone in it, and then a lone person came by and ended the misery of a couple of troubled souls. She pointed to the one with the knife in their head, the one with an arrow through their head, and then the one at her feet. The one that she'd just stabbed, and I shrugged and went over to her, evaporating the blood all over me as I bent down and let her jump onto my back.
I never got to ask you because we kind of got split up instead of coming here together, I looked at her as her attention shifted from the carnage all around to look at me. Do you want to be the good guys, the bad guys, or neutral in this world? She pretended to think about it for a second, dramatically humming every now and then before saying that she wanted us to be neutral and just explore this world a little. At that I agreed with her choice and then shot into the air since there was no one around to see a dragon and a person riding on their back, and shot in the direction of the city that I saw on the way from the mountains.
Again I am sorry if you are disappointed about the change, but I promise that this'll allow me to update more without the 'need' to look at Wikipedia, or try and get another Red Queen book from the series to go off of. Hopefully I can keep this story going, and make a sequel in time, but until then, I hope that you have enjoyed this change and I'll see you in the next chapter. :P
