1. Prologue
He needed to know if the rumours were true. Running through the dense forest with torrential rain giving his face a beating, Cooper was on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary. He paused for a moment to take in the surroundings. Trees were everywhere, blocking his every view of the rest of his current location. Somewhere nearby would be the shore and the ocean and much, much further behind him was the dull, dreary building of Full Moon Academy.
"Hera!" came a harsh cry to his left. Turning, he saw that his loyal, dark blue stag beetle had come back to his side. He stared deep into its huge yellow eyes and gave a small smile.
"Get your horn stuck again?" Cooper asked, taking a step towards his Pokémon and brushing some twigs off of the long pointed horn atop its head, revealing some nasty scratches.
"Heracross!" the Pokémon winced when Cooper ran his fingers along one.
"You'll be fine. It's a clean wound." He reassured his Pokémon before washing his hands in the falling rain. He brushed his wet, black hair out the way of his dull green eyes before continuing on his quest, venturing further still into the woods.
His feet splashed through a muddy puddle, ruining his pristine trousers but he didn't care. This was his last day on this boring island and there was only one thing he had left to do. He had to find out for himself if it was just a rumour. This was just another thing that he didn't need to worry about at his new school. He wanted to forget all about Full Moon Island.
Was there really something lurking deep in the forest? Had people really seen a mythical beast or had it been merely a figment of their imagination? If anyone was going to find out, it was Cooper. He was a worthy enough trainer for almost any task and this was no exception. If there was something out here, he'd find it. That much, he knew for certain.
After checking to ensure that the buzz of Heracross' wings wasn't too far behind, he ran further and the trees around him seemed to grow thicker, blocking out nearly all of what little sunlight could already reach the ground. Droplets of water showered down upon him, making the ground especially slippery but that wasn't going to stop him.
Just when he was about to give up, he eventually saw something. Cooper thought for a moment it was his own imagination, playing tricks on his mind but he realised that the odd pink radiance in the distance was no illusion.
"Heracross, I've found something!" He yelled. That was a mistake. As he charged forwards, whatever was causing the strange glow was easily startled by his shouting and so when he finally stumbled into a clearing, there was an immense flash of light. Through the incredible rain and the blinding pink and yellow light, it was impossible to see what was going on and Cooper was forced to protect his eyes.
When the light cleared, there was no trace of whatever had once been there. Cooper looked to the sky, cursing at his failure. However, just as he was about to turn and head back for the academy, he noticed something amongst the raindrops. It was a small object, slowly falling downwards. When it touched the ground, Cooper made his way towards it and picked it up for a closer inspection. He was drawn to it immediately by some unknown force. It grabbed his attention and he was left with no choice but to take it with him on his travels. This odd, unidentified item would be his last and only memory of Full Moon Academy.
