"Now, we leave the town." Bane said. Dreadwolf nodded, trying to keep up with him.
"Outside the town is where all the monsters are?"
"Yep. Kazana Menu, open! Form party: Wolfbane. Invite to party: Dreadwolf!"
Dreadwolf saw a different menu pop up right in front of him. It said "Would you like to join party: Wolfbane?"
"Yes." He said, trying something new, and the option screen vanished, but he heard a voice in his head say "Party joined."
"Now, to go over Party skills."
"I already know what they are. I assume it has a Group inventory function, and a maximum amount of players."
"Actually, yes. You're pretty good with MMORPGs. How long ya been playin them for?"
"Well, I've been playing them for... He counted in his head. "Eight years, I think?"
"Wait, what? How old ARE you?"
"Sixteen."
"You've been playing MMOs since you were eight."
"Yep."
"Wow. I've only been playin them for about a year!"
"I see." They reached the town entrance. It was a large gate, and a wall stretched as far as the eye could see. There were two massive doors there, made of white marble. Dreadwolf walked up to the gate. "How do we open this?"
"Like this. Town gate: Open!" Bane commanded, and the gate opened outwards, rumbling against the ground. Outside was a grasslands, with forests in the distance. Boar-like creatures could be seen.
"What are those??" Dreadwolf looked at them.
"Wild Boars. They're not like normal ones, though. These ones are fiercer. Stronger. Deadlier."
"How do I beat them??"
"Well, you're a Mage class. Magi have reduced ability for Weapons, yet increased Magic. Your Strength stats will be naturally low. It is possible to build yourself up to become a Tank, but I wouldn't recommend it. Channel all of it into Magic and Health. Mostly magic. And put a little bit into Strength as well. For armor."
"All right." Dreadwolf nodded. "I've played mage classes before, I know what I'm doing."
"Okay." Bane nodded back. Dreadwolf hefted his heavy wooden staff, amazed by how REAL it felt. The oak wood was actually there, tangible in his fingers. The burns all over his body still hurt slightly, but they had hurt massively when he'd first gotten them. It'd taken all his will to actually stand up. The smell of grass, flowers, and animals reached him clearly. And it all looked so real. This wasn't just computer graphics... This seemed actually real. He could feel the texture of his staff, feel his rough traveler's clothes and his light breastplate. Everything was so real... He swa one of the Boars come close to him. He flipped open his spellbook, reading through it, and found a good spell. "Bane! Here's the fighting plan. I run in, use this Ice spell to keep it from moving! You land a killing blow."
"All right." Bane nodded.
Dreadwolf began the incantation. "Ice primum carmine: Spermatophyta!" The crystal atop his staff began to glow, and all at once, he could see interweaving trails of magic, forming almost a double helix pattern, but without those little lines between them. They wove around each other, reaching the enemy in less than a second, and all of this passed in the blink of an eye. The boar's feet froze to the ground, ice forming around them. It struggled in vain to get free, but it was trapped, helpless. Bane immediately rushed in with his one-handed longsword, slashing its head clean from its body.
"That was easy. I probably could've taken it on without the spell. But nice job on that. Keep using spells on monsters like that, and eventually your magic levels will increase. Best way to level? Just keep killing. Don't try to farm one monster byusing spells and healing it. Kill it. It increases your Magic level more, and decreases the danger. Of course, you respawn after you die, but still... I can't imagine what it'd feel like to get gored by those tusks." Bane shuddered. "You keep the same level of senses in this world, which is surprising. Some people quit the game after feeling some pain. Others keep playing. I haven't died myself, of course. And I don't know anyone who has. Maybe they just quit."
Dreadwolf thought about that, and shrugged. "Well, I have to go. It's getting late." He said.
"All right, mate. See ya later." Bane nodded.
Kazana Menu. Dreadwolf commanded, but this time in his head. The menu opened in front of him. Okay, this is way too freaky. It can read my MIND? He thought, startled. He tapped Logout, and found himself back in his room, sitting in his chair. He stood up, pulling off the headgear, and went to sleep. It was 9:00 at night, and for the first time, he was tired this early.
