Chapter 16
The nine days passed; Aceso and Ren came home to one extremely clean house. The moment they walked through the door, both of them were greeted with hugs and kisses.
"How was the trip?" Lee asked as he took Ren into his arms. "Did you have fun?" Ren made a happy noise as he smiled.
"Momma!" Metal exclaimed as he jumped up, tackling her in a hug.
"Little bug," Aceso laughed as she kissed the top of his head.
"All of us were able to fill in for you a bit at the hospital if needed," Pia informed. "Since you taught us to make medicine, they weren't too concerned, even Daddy."
"Dad filled at the pharmacy?" Aceso asked in surprise.
"Please don't act so surprised," Lee stated as he hung his head. "A full day in your shoes at the hospital was not easy."
"You filled in at the hospital?" Aceso asked in even more surprise.
"Just as a receptionist," Lee stated, Aceso laughed. "My love."
"I believe you did fine," Aceso laughed. "Plus everyone likes a cute receptionist." Lee looked up, his cheeks grew red.
"Not in front of the kids," Dino groaned as he put a hand over his mouth, puffing out his cheeks. "So gross, keep it PG." Aceso laughed, as she dragged him into a hug. "Mom."
"Oh, I just remembered," Aceso stated. "The Kazekage, Kankuro, and Shinki should be coming into the village soon."
"Huh? What for?" Lee asked.
"There is going to be a Kage summit," Aceso answered. "They are going to stay with the Naras."
"Shinki's coming?" Dino asked in surprise. "He never comes."
"Well since Shinki is to be Kazekage one day, Gaara wants him to get a small glimpse, I guess," Aceso explained.
"Good thing we cleaned the house," Pia stated. "Dino, aren't you at the pharmacy today?"
"Right!" Dino chimed, he ran into his room, changed, then ran to the pharmacy. As he was there, a call came from the Uzumaki house.
"Lady Hinata?" Dino asked.
"Hello, Dino," Hinata greeted. "I am calling to see if you have medicine for a fever, Himawari has come down with one."
"I have to make it, but it should be ready for when you arrive," Dino answered. "Give it ten minutes."
"Thank you, Dino," Hinata stated with a smile through the phone. " See you soon." Dino went in the back and made some medicine, minutes later he was handing it over to Lady Hinata.
"Is Himawari's fever bad?" Dino asked. "My mom came home today, she can come over and take a look at it."
"That is very kind of you to offer," Hinata stated. "But we will be just fine."
"Are you sure Aunt Hinata?" Dino asked.
"You made the medicine, I'm sure this will help Himawari heal faster once she learns that her cousin made it," Hinata answered.
"I'm not sure about that, I'm not as good as my mom," Dino stated, Hinata started laughing.
"I trust that you made it just like your mom does," Hinata stated. "You are her son after all." She then walked out leaving Dino in a trance.
"Dino?" Oda asked snapping out of it.
"Big Sis Oda," Dino greeted. "Was my mom really that good of a medical ninja back then?"
"The greatest," Oda answered. "She was my sensei, after all, I am still trying to try to climb up to her level."
"You are an amazing medical ninja," Dino stated.
"Your mom thinks so as well," Oda stated. "I've looked up to her since...well I guess I can't remember when I started to look up to her. You know she became a doctor at 10, becoming the youngest doctor in all of the lands."
"I've heard this all before," Dino groaned. "How she gave Dad the chance to continue his ninja dream, commander of the medical unit in the war, I heard all the accomplishments."
"All those things seem too little to her biggest accomplishment," Oda stated.
"And what would that be? Creating another life-saving medicine?" Dino asked; Oda shook her head.
"It's you, and your siblings," Oda answered looking over at him.
"That's cheesy," Dino stated as he looked away.
"But it's true," Oda insisted. "I remember it just like it was yesterday. "I remember being upstairs looking at baby names." Dino remained to stare at the door. "She always lights up when she sees her children, especially you Dino."
"Hm?" He looked over at her. "I got suspended on the first day of school."
"Which landed in you spending a lot of time here," Oda reminded him. "Your mom is proud of you, trust me when I say you four are her best and favorite accomplishments." Dino looked away. "She didn't have a mom growing up, she's always worried she's not being the best she could be for you guys."
"That's stupid," Dino stated. "Mom is always doing her best, everyone can see it even, Ren." He then remembered how happy his mom got when she got home, how tight she hugged him. Then he finally understood what Oda was talking about. "Her best accomplishment is being a mom."
"Not just a mom, but a mom to you four," Oda stated. "One day, I believe you will be taking over this pharmacy." Dino lit up with a smile. After working at the pharmacy all day, he heard the door open, he looked to see his mom.
"Mom," Dino smiled.
"I just got back from the Uzumaki's house," Aceso answered. "Boruto called to have me come over and take a look at Himawari. The medicine you made worked amazingly."
"Thank you," Dino smiled. "So, what are you doing here?"
"You have been here all day, you must be hungry," Aceso answered. "Let's close for the night and go get some food." Dino looked at his watch, technically they closed thirty minutes ago.
"Ramen," Dino answered as he got off the stool.
"You sound just like Naruto," Aceso laughed as they stepped out, she locked up the place.
"Mom, are we really your best accomplishments?" Dino asked as they made their way over. "Us and Ren?"
"Not only the best accomplishments but treasures that lie in my heart," Aceso answered. Dino smiled up at her. Soon they went to Ichiraku Ramen, they sat at a table, with a bowl of miso and a bowl of shoyu. "I'm happy you agreed to this, I barely get to spend time with you anymore."
"You could be home more," Dino suggested.
"I wish I could," Aceso answered. "It's not that easy."
"But you were always away from the hospital when you were younger," Dino pointed out. "Why not do the same now?"
"Back then, we were low on available ninjas, so I got sent on missions a lot," Aceso answered. "And it didn't help that I lived at the hospital."
"You lived there?" Dino asked as he paused from putting food in his mouth. " You never mentioned that before, why did you live there?"
"My parents were medical ninja, so they thought it was best to have their child live there," Aceso answered.
"For how long?" Dino asked. "I thought you lived with the Grandpas?"
"No, not at all," Aceso answered. "GrandPapa Kakashi was an anbu so he was super busy, and GrandPapa Gai was busy with his missions, and soon enough he was the Jonin leader for dad's genin team."
"So how long did you live there?" Dino asked.
"Twelve years," Aceso answered.
"So which do you like coming home to more?" Dino asked.
"My family of course," Aceso answered. "I remember when you were all younger, you would be the first one tackling me in a hug, now it's Metal."
"Hold up," Dino said as he looked over the long table in front of the kitchen. "Boruto?"
"Dino?" Boruto asked. Aceso looked over.
"Naruto?" Aceso asked.
"Little sister! You are back" Naruto lit up. "I heard you stopped by and checked on Himawari!"
"Turns out I didn't need to" Aceso chimed. "It was Dino that made the medicine!"
"That's amazing! Y'a know! Just like your mom!" Naruto exclaimed looking at Dino. "I owe you big time."
"It's nothing Uncle," Dino stated.
"For once I agree with the old man, we owe you big time," Boruto stated.
"The time-honored the Five Kage Summit is fast approaching," a voice said, they all looked up at the tv. All the Kage's faces were being shown, Darui, Kurotsuchi, Chojouro, Gaara, and Naruto. The Hidden Leaf will host this year's conference. The Kage from each village will be meeting to discuss a wide variety of important subjects." The two families turned to their own discussions.
"Will you be going?" Dino asked.
"Only to give Kurotsuchi medicine for her grandfather," Aceso answered. Dino didn't seem too happy. "Afterwards, we are heading over to the Naras to catch up with the family all together."
"Really?" Dino smiled big. Aceso nodded.
"Welcome!" Ayame greeted as the doors opened.
"Hey, what a coincidence," Cho-Cho stated, they looked to see Choji and Cho-Cho.
"Hey," Boruto and Dino greeted.
"Choji," Naruto smiled. "I didn't know you bring your daughter here."
"You bet," Choji nodded.
"You two continuing your eating contest?" Aceso asked.
"Eating contest," Dino repeated.
"My dad and I always come here at least once a month to do our ramen eating contest," Cho-Cho explained.
"You're actually battling your daughter in a ramen eating contest," Naruto questioned.
"You stay out of it Naruto," Choji warned. "This is a serious battle for us chubby types, our pride is on the line here."
"In this world of extreme calories, parental ties are absolutely consequence," Cho-Cho added, they both walked away darkly to begin their contest.
"Well good luck then," Naruto wished them.
"And once a month they both land in the hospital for serious indigestion," Aceso stated.
"So I guess that means you won't be coming home tonight," Dino stated.
"Nonsense," Aceso smiled at him. "It is very quick and you will be coming along."
"Me?" Dino lit up. "You want me to assist you?"
"Tomorrow after school, I can begin to teach you the basics of chakra medicine," Aceso added, Dino lit up even more. Dino then told her all about what happened at home while she was away, soon they heard two thuds, and they looked over to see Choji and Cho-Cho laying on the table. "Let's get this operation started."
"All right!" Dino cheered jumping up to his feet, Aceso laughed.
"See you later Choji, Cho-Cho, Little sister, Dino," Naruto stated.
"See ya," Aceso smiled as she got up. For the night, Dino helped Aceso treat the two Akimichis for serious indigestion, Dino had a blast as his first time helping a patient. He was putting the medicine together as his mom cleaned the tools.
"Mom?" Dino asked she looked back at him. "If this was the old hospital, which room would be yours?"
"The last room on the left on the third floor," Aceso answered.
"I will be back," Dino stated as he stepped out of the room, he walked down the hallway, he got to the third floor, right at the spot she said, was a door, it had a sign.
'Doctor Matsuba's office.'
Dino opened the door to find the place completely clean, somehow he has never been here. On the desk, he saw pictures of himself and his siblings, the day his parents got married. Other family members. On the wall was a plague, with her doctorate degree. Suddenly the phone rang, he stared at it for a before seconds before picking it up.
"Hello, this is Dino," Dino greeted.
"Dino?" a familiar voice asked.
"Uncle Kankuro?" Dino asked. "Why are you calling?"
"Why are you in your mom's office?" Kankuro asked.
"She said in the old hospital this would be where the room she lived in," Dino answered, Kankuro started laughing.
"Why are you calling?" Dino asked.
"Your mom never wrote or called saying she made it home safely," Kankuro stated.
"Oh she's home," Dino stated.
"That's good," Kankuro stated. "See you in a few weeks, squirt" The phone went dead, Dino put it back. It slipped off, slamming a draw opening it. The door opened revealing body drawings of a surgery a long time ago, Dino picked it up...Dad.
"Dino?" a voice asked. He looked up to see his Shizune.
"I didn't mean to go prying, don't tell my mom," Dino pleaded. "What's this?"
"Hm?" Shizune asked as she walked closer. "Oh, I remember that."
"Is this the notes of my dad's surgery?" Dino asked.
"One that changed his life," Shizune answered.
"Was it really that big?" Dino asked as he became a bit annoyed.
"Your mother spent about a month or more preparing for it, it was extremely risky," Shizune answered. "Thankfully it was a success."
"What if it wasn't a success?" Dino asked.
"You wouldn't be here," Shizune answered.
"What do you mean?" Dino asked.
"If that surgery was a failure, your dad would have died," Shizune answered, Dino's eyes went wide. "After that, word got around, and your mom got sent out to help people with similar problems."
"Why would he take a chance so risky?" Dino asked.
"Lee trusted your mother with his life," Shizune answered. "All patients should always trust their doctors and nurses..but this was different, he was thirteen and your mom was twelve, in my opinion, she was way too young to take on that responsibility. But she insisted to be one the to do because of a promise."
"What exactly was that promise?" Dino asked as he put the paper back.
"He protects her and she heals him," Shizune answered. "Get going your mom said it's about time for you both to head home." Dino nodded. On the walk home, he looked up at his mom, most of the way.
"Everything alright?" Aceso asked looking at him.
"Thank you," Dino stated. "For everything." Aceso stared at him, seconds later she smiled and held out her hand; he happily grabbed it.
