Chapter 39 Dmitri

Never taking my eyes off any of the Lions, a part of my thoughts were somewhere else involving Sam. How in the world did she meet this guy? Why didn't I know? She's mine dammit, and only mine. What is this, "Tlazolteotl," Jack, and Lawrence kept on referring her too? All these questions kept popping in my head and finding no answers in return. It was putting me on edge. Finally deciding to ask her myself, I pushed those unanswered questions to the back of my mind, as much as I could at the moment.

Almost 2 hours later, the Lions were getting ready to take Cassie's body back with them. Jack stood off to the side talking with the Pride leader and Nickoli walked in my direction. Stopping, he stood beside me looking out at everyone. I stood there and waited with my arms over my chest to see what he had to say.

Nickoli took the same stance, we stood there for a minute in silence before he broke the silence. "How is she really?" He sounded truly concerned.

For a brief second I debated to tell the guy off, if it wasn't for the concern in his voice and their Alpha and Pride leader watching us like fathers ready to beat our ass if we missed behaved I choose the higher road. The truth. "She's strong, she'll be OK." I said, then told him briefly about her daughters knowing he would hear by tomorrow no matter how tight lipped people thought they were.

Nickoli stood there motionless as I spoke, once done all he said, "Shit."

"Yeah, that pretty much sums it up and for the record the only reason I told you this was so you got the story right and didn't ask her about it till she brings it up herself." It was said more as a warning then me just being a good Samaritan.

"Thank you," Nickoli responded, sounding genuine.

"And by the way, she will be mine," I gloated, confidence and smile growing.

Nickoli's stance didn't change. "Until she's mated or wants nothing to do with me I'm not giving up," he informed me with the same confidence and smile.

Ready to fight for Sam now, if not only to wipe that smirk of his face; a warning growl started deep in his chest, only to be interrupted by my Alpha moving in my face and the Pride leader in Nickoli's.

"We are leaving now," Jack's voice was soft but the command squeezed around me with such strength the only thing I could do was back away from Nickoli and go where my Alpha told me.

Almost to the edge of the woods with Jack at my side, we were stopped by Lawrence's question. "Are you sure she's not going to be a problem?"

Jack looked over his shoulder he responded, "I don't believe so, not after she knows everything." With that said, we walked into the cover of the trees. Mason was just ahead of us pushing the previously abandon ATV.

Following Jack's lead at a more relaxed pace was more strenuous, needing to get back to Sam but needing answers on what Jack and Lawrence were talking about when it came to Sam. Biding my time until we got back, I concentrated on keeping my speed the same as the others instead of passing them. Jack took the trail that led us to Nate's and began to slow down as soon as we hit the edge of Nate's property.

Jack coming to a halt gave me a chance to jump on him with questions I have been dying to ask for the past couple hours. Pulling up beside him as the others did I asked, "What is Tlazolteotl? Why do you keep referring to Sam as this and what do you mean you will deal with it?" I rushed out in all one breath before he had a chance to cut me off.

Looking ahead out over towards his house he could not see yet. "Meeting at my place Thursday, at 7pm. All unmated males need to be there and anyone else is welcome but it's not mandatory for them, just the unmated males. Dmitri and Nate, you two are responsible for getting the word out." Raising his hand as the protests started. "We have some out of town business meetings that includes a couple unmated males and that also includes you, Mason. Once they get back in a couple days we will meet. I will not have this get around, and screwed up by some miss communications. My place, Thursday at 7pm," Jack said, and then roared the engine taking off towards his home. Stopping about 20 feet away, he turned and added, "This is serious. It affects all of us especially Samantha." This time when he left he didn't stop, leaving us men dumbfounded.

"Well that explained a lot," Mason said sarcastically.

Shaking my head, "You took the words right out of my mouth." I knew it was not going to be that easy but it still pissed me off.
