CH 2- The Truth and A New Life
When I woke up, I wasn't in my room at my adoptive father's house. The walls were a calming sapphire blue, and I calmed down from just looking around. But, somehow, the room was....... Familiar......... "Good, you're awake." I turned my attention to see an old man with kind amethyst eyes smiling gently at me. I didn't feel afraid anymore when I saw him. He lightly touched my forehead and frowned. "You're burning up still.... Well, lay down and get some rest, young lady, and I'll make some soup for you." He told me. I did what I was told and got the feeling that I knew him. He looked at me and smiled. "Rest, my granddaughter." Granddaughter?! I was about to ask him what he meant when he left the room. I thought long and hard about what he could have meant by it. Was I his granddaughter? I felt a little confused. But that's when I got the feeling something or someone was watching me. But when I looked around, no one was there. I still felt like something was up but laid down anyway, staring at the ceiling. I don't know why, but the song Bring Me To Life by Evanescence played in my head and I felt..... A little off. I looked at my reflection in the full length mirror and saw why: I was 5'2", my hair was back to it's gorgeous nutmeg auburn color, but my eyes........ They weren't emerald green or sapphire blue.... They were amethyst. I touched the mirror's surface. That can't be me........ I thought, but I knew it was. I got back in bed and laid down again. After ten minutes, the door opened. I looked the same time a boy came in with a tray in his hands. He smiled at me, kind and gentle. He looked to be about 16 years old, with tri-colored, starshaped hair and big amethyst eyes. The base of his hair was black, the trim red and his bangs were gold.
"How are you feeling, Lyss?" He asked. I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out. I shut it and gave him a confused look. He frowned. "Grandpa told me your throat's a little damaged, but I didn't think it'd be this bad." He told me. My eyebrows went up. What? He must've seen the look on my face, because he told me, "But don't worry about it! With a few days rest, you should be fine." I relaxed a little, taking in what he said. He smiled. "Are you hungry?" He asked. I nodded. He smiled again and place the tray on my lap after helping me sit up. I ate slow, forcing myself to enjoy it even though I was starving. After I finished, he lightly pressed down on my shoulders, making me lay down. "Get some sleep, Alyssa." He told me. I smiled a little and the smile on his face grew. I guess it made him happy to see me happy. I fell asleep, processing what happened.
*A few months later*
"Lyss, hurry up!" Joey shouted at me. I scowled at him telling him to shut up. He clamped his mouth shut and Yugi laughed.
"You'd better be more careful around her, Joey. You remember what happened when Kaiba got her mad last week?" He asked. I smirked, snorting a little as I remembered the look on Kaiba's face when I went off on him for calling Yugi a puny weakling. Joey and Tristan smirked like idiots, remembering how bad my anger was.
"I remember...... that's exactly why I don't underestimate you, Alyssa." Tèa told me.
"I don't think anyone underestimates me after that one." I replied, looking at her as I stood up straight and slung my messenger bag over my shoulder. Yugi smiled. Since we're brother and sister, we've been watching each other's backs. Yugi even told me a secret about the Millennium Puzzle.......... Anyways, we walked back to the Game Shop, my mind set on an upcoming duel. "Duelaholic." I looked right at my brother.
"How many times have I told you not to do that?" I mentally asked him.
"Aww, come on, Alyssa, it's more fun to talk like this!" Yugi mentally whined. I rolled my eyes.
"Just stay out of my head, Yugi." I told him, shaking my head. I could hear him laughing a little. I codn't help but grin a little, determined not to let it show. Yugi's a fun brother, but when he doesn't listen, it's annoying. Anyway, Yugi and I dueled while Joey watched intently, as if to study our every move and learn. It was close, but Yugi ended up beating me. Again. I let out a soft groan and my head hit the table with a soft thump!
"You're getting better, Lyss.... You just need more practice." Yugi told me.
"More like more training. I haven't been able to beat you since we were 10!" I groaned, my voice muffled by my arms.
"You'll beat me one of these days, Alyss, you'll see." He encouraged me. I looked right at him.
"No I won't." I replied. He gave me the You're not gonna win this one, now stop it look and I picked up my deck as he did the same. Being the youngest can really suck sometimes. I thought. I felt a mental but gentle stroke to the right side of my face. "You'll defeat Yugi some day. And I can't wait to see you on that day. You'll be shining with the beauty of the goddess Auset herself." I inwardly blushed. It was the Spirit of the Millennium Puzzle.
"You keep saying things like that and my face might get stuck being pink." I mentally told him. I could feel him smirking.
"Your beauty would only enhance." He mentally told me. My cheeks stated to heat up a little and I knew I was blushing. Damn him..... I thought. Yami knew how to get me physically blushing.... Hell, he knew a lot about me. Meanwhile, I was trying the best I can to help him find out about his past..............
