Chapter 16: Nothing Eventful
[Weeks Later]
Me: "Again."
Nalalie nodded as she focused mana into the palm of her hand. Electricity sparked from her hand as it slowly grew in intensity.
Me: "Release."
She released the magic from her hand that shot towards the sheet of metal that was her target. The bolt of lightning went straight through the metal, burning through it with ease. She was improving, slowly, but improving nonetheless. With her magic reserves increased she doesn't drain mana as quickly anymore. But her body and mind are still too fragile to work with my level of spells.
Me: "Very good. We're done for today."
Nalalie: "May I ask a favor of you, before we part?"
Me: "Depends on the favor."
Nalalie: "The spell you used to destroy the human army, I wish to see it."
Me: "I'd advise against it. It wasn't a normal spell, it was one I designed."
Nalalie: "I wish to know our gap in strength, I have never seen you fight, I have only ever heard tales of your achievements. Please."
She bowed her head to me. I sighed.
Me: "Stand behind me, at least five steps."
She nodded and quickly stood behind me.
Me: "Aurora, deploy six of the targets Nalalie was firing at."
Aurora: "Understood."
The burnt metal disappeared and six more took its place. Just as I was about to raise my hand and cast the spell Aurora spoke.
Aurora: "(Y/N), someone is at the door."
Me: "Who?"
Aurora: "His ID in the system is 'Ozpin', should I let him in."
Me: "No. Open a door for Nalalie then change the interior to a normal dorm room."
Aurora: "Of course."
I looked at Nalalie.
Me: "We'll put a pin in this."
A door suddenly appeared next to Nalalie as she nodded and went through. The room around me changed into its original space as I made my way to the door.

I stood in front of the class I was to be teaching for the day. Ozpin had asked me to fill in for today, seeing as one of his professors was ill. The class was about dust or something, but I was just supposed to sit here and make sure they read what they were supposed to. As I sat there and watched students walk in and sit down I began thinking back to my time in college. The boring classes, the waste of time, and just the senselessness of it. I usually just teach myself everything I need to know. If something sparked my interest, I poured effort into it until I was satisfied with the results. Suddenly a bell chimed and I noticed everyone was in their seats. I sighed and pulled up my holographic keyboard then hooked into the display board behind me. I typed in the chapter they needed to read then closed off my keyboard.
Me: "Your teacher says to read this chapter and take notes, said something about a test coming up soon."
And with my obligation done, I kicked my feet up on the desk and pulled a handheld gaming system from my inventory. It's been a while since I actually played a game, I've mainly been living it. But some games still held my interest. After a bit of playing my game, someone got up from their seat and made their way to me. I looked up from my game but kept playing. Standing in front of me was a familiar face, Ruby Rose.
Me: "Yes?"
Ruby: "Uh... I'm having trouble understanding-"
Me: "I'm not a teacher, I'm a stand-in. I'm just here to make sure you read the chapter. Ask someone else."
Ruby: "W-Well that's the thing... we haven't learned this yet..."
I sighed.
Me: "What's the chapter about?"
Ruby: "The title is 'Types of Dust and their Combinations.' I don't understand this part."
She held her textbook over to me and pointed to a section. I quickly read over what she didn't understand.
Me: "That's it?"
I slowly got up and switched the display board so that I could write on it. I quickly drew up a diagram of eight different crystals.
Me: "It's better to just start with the basics. Starting off there are eight base types of dust each pertaining to an element, as I'm sure you know. However, with these as a base, you can create new types of Dust. Say you take fire and water Dust, then combine them. You'd get steam Dust. Think of those products as 'Man-made Dust' not natural, but functioning as a new element."
Ruby: "But it says here some types of Dust cancel each other out."
Me: "That pertains to battle. If someone shoots fire dust at you, your best bet is to use water Dust against the attack. Combining Dust is a delicate task, attacking, not so much."
Ruby nodded and returned to her seat. I cleared off the board and sat back down.
Aurora: "(Y/N), someone named "Charlotte" is calling you."
I sighed, pulled up my keyboard and typed.
Me: "Answer it, tell her I'm busy with something and if it's an emergency open a portal."
Aurora: "Understood."
A moment or two went by and nothing happened so I went back to playing my game. A few minutes ticked slowly by and I started to grow bored of the game I was playing. I may need to swing by my original universe and purchase a game or two soon. I saved my game then shut it off, then put the console back in my storage. I pulled up my keyboard and typed something.
Me: "Aurora, what did Ariana want?"
Aurora: "She was asking if you could assist her in training. I told her you were busy, as you requested."
Me: "Guess I'll catch up with her after this."
I looked around the room, everyone was doing what they were intended to do, reading and occasionally writing down notes.
Me: "Aurora, how would you like to create your own android body?"
Aurora's image popped up.
Aurora: "I would love that... However, I wouldn't want to inconvenience you."
Me: "That's why you're going to do it. You have access to all of my machines and design plans, you can create one through them."
Aurora: "Really?"
Me: "Unless you think it'll be too difficult for you."
Aurora smiled at me.
Aurora: "Now what kind of person would I be if I couldn't design a simple android with your systems."
Me: "A normal human being, with average or below intellect. Go ahead and get started, I'll check your progress in about an hour or so."
Aurora nodded.
Aurora: "Thank you, (Y/N)."
I closed off my keyboard and leaned back in my chair. Another 5 minutes passed and I couldn't sit still. I stood up and stretched then looked around the class. Everyone was still working, like good little students. I slowly made my way up the rows of desks and watched each student scribble down notes. All except one. Unsurprisingly Ruby was doodling on her notebook, most likely bored with the chapter. The three next to her were at least somewhat working. Yang was reading, occasionally taking a break to look through her scroll. Weiss was reading, taking detailed notes then continuing on. And finally, Blake was reading, writing down a few notes then continuing. Ruby was the youngest of the students here at Beacon, transferred in early on Ozpin's authority. I chuckled to myself as I strolled back down the aisle of desks.
Me: "So she's the main character."
Once I sat down at the desk again I kicked my feet up and pulled out my phone from my storage system. I began doing some... "research". Most universes I travel to have one thing in common. They are all fictional outlets, with only a few exceptions. Shows, books, games. This one was no different. This universe mimicked a show named RWBY. However, me being here changes things about the timeline, the events that will happen, and even the ending of the story. I put my phone back in my storage. I wouldn't actually look through the original show until I've completed my time here, and only to see what changes my presence had made. By looking through the contents of a story before I live it can ruin my playthrough, spoil big events that are supposed to be experienced first hand.

Ariana swung at me again putting the last bit of strength she had into the attack with her dagger. I moved the minimal amount needed to dodge then grabbed her wrist and twisted lightly, making her drop her weapon. I put a hand on her back and sighed.
Me: "You're improving, but you need to work on conserving your stamina."
I slowly walked over to her dagger and picked it up.
Me: "The dagger I gave you is embedded with a strong poison that attacks the nervous system, even a slight scratch will cause complete paralysis in most people, so you don't need to swing so hard."
Ariana: "To get through someone's aura you have to hit them with a lot of force, I have to strike with everything otherwise I won't get through it."
Me: "In most cases, that is correct, however with this weapon it isn't necessary. Here. Aurora, display the description for this weapon, make it visible to Ariana."
Aurora: "Of course."
A translucent screen appeared in front of Ariana and she began reading it.
Ariana: "Spider's fang... this dagger is imbued with a powerful poison that attacks the very soul... feeds off of the users desire to become stronger... additional effects include; OwnerBound, Invisibility, Poison Nullification, and WebWeavers Mastery... Wait, why does this say 1 of 2?"
Me: "Because it's part of a set. But the reason I showed you that is because of the line 'attacks the very soul.' Meaning-"
Ariana: "Wait... This can attack someone's aura?"
Me: "Correct. The dagger will corrode the target's soul."
Ariana: "How is that even-"
She sighed.
Ariana: "Forget it, I wouldn't understand it anyway."
Me: "I think that's enough for today. We'll pick up where we left off tomorrow."
I started to open a door but Ariana stopped me.
Ariana: "Wait! Do you mind if I come with you?"
Me: "I'm just going to my lab. Why not spend time with Nalalie?"
Ariana: "She said she was gonna be meditating for most of today. And I don't really know what else to do."
I sighed.
Me: "Alright. I'm going to check up on Aurora, she should almost be done."
I opened up the door and walked through with Ariana.
Ariana: "What was she working on?"
As we entered there was a form waiting for us, supposedly Aurora. It looked absolutely identical to the image she appeared as. It was actually rather impressive for the time frame.
Me: "She was working on a physical body. It would seem she's finished."
Aurora smiled.
Aurora: "Yes. I was very excited to work on this, I am quite happy with the results."
I walked forward and started inspecting her face.
Me: "The smile was very smooth, well done on getting the synthetic skin to move like that. Any glitches so far, any twitching?"
Aurora: "None at all."
I backed up a bit.
Me: "Reach one arm out towards me."
She followed my request. I lightly grabbed onto her arm and started feeling up and down her arm. It had a slight give to it, much like normal skin, it felt real as well. I then bent her arm slightly to test the joint.
Me: "The skin was synthesized properly. The joint is smooth. What metal did you use?"
Aurora: "I used the magnesium alloy you usually use for your lightweight robotics."
Me: "That's a good choice. But why that? You could've been done much sooner if you had used titanium or something."
Aurora: "I didn't want to be too heavy."
Me: "I see. And finally the range of motion."
I stepped back as she moved her joints around. Then extended and retracted her fingers. Everything looked perfect. I nodded.
Me: "Very good. It looks like everything is in perfect order. Impressive for your first try."
Ariana: "Woah... Can I make something too?"
I actually forgot she was here. I sighed.
Me: "Only if I'm here and only if I approve of it."
Ariana huffed and crossed her arms.
Ariana: "I'm not a child, you don't have to look after me."
Me: "I'm not. For someone to use anything in my lab I have to give them permission otherwise the machines won't work."
Ariana: "O-Oh..."
She looked slightly disappointed by that answer.
Aurora: "(Y/N), I believe you should take care of your companions better. Ariana seems as though she wishes to be babied by you."
Ariana: "No I don't!"
