Chapter 2
Me, Stanford, and Stanley and been working on the Stan O' War for a few hours now. The sun was starting to set, telling us we should start heading home. I had a pen and paper in my bag and Stanley wrote down their address in case I wanted to come by sometime. I gave each boy a hug and said goodbye. The boys went one way, and I went the other after saying we would meet here again tomorrow.
I went walking back to my house and saw no lights were on. I tried to open the door, but it was locked, I knocked a few times but nothing happened. I can't just stand out here by myself I thought as I wrote my mom a note incase she came back or something, and looked at the address on the paper. "It's not to far from here." I said to myself. It was getting dark and honestly I was getting a little scared. It wasn't that I was scared of the dark, more of the type of people who came out in the dark. I've had bad experiences being out at night in my hometown, and I didn't know what would happen here, on to of that I get paranoid early. So I took of to Stanley and Stanford's house kinda quickly just in case.
When i got there I saw it was a pawn shop. Cool I thought as I went to knock on the door. After a few seconds a lady can to the door. Could this be their mom? I wondered. "Uh.... h-hi there miss. I was w-wondering if this was where, Stanley and Stanford Pines lives?" I asked kinda shy. She gave me a kind smile and said "Yes, sweetheart. I'm their mother. You know my boys?" I perked up a bit glad not to have the wrong house. "Yes ma'am. I met them this morning on the beach." I smiled remembering. "Oh you much be that lovely girl they were talking about. Come in, come in." She said, backing up a little to let me in then she closed the door behind me. "What are you doing here at this time?" She seem kinda concerned when she asked this. "Well once we saw it was getting dark we all said we should probably get home. Stanley gave me y'alls address, in case I wanted to come over sometime. After I said bye to them and got to my house, I saw that there wasn't any lights on. I tried to open the door but it was locked and when I knocked there was no answer. I left a note before I left in case she came back or something. I don't know anyone else or where she could be, so I came here, hopeing I could stay here for a night or something. " " Oh sweetie of course you can stay. I don't want you to go back out there at night. Do you know your mom's number maybe I can try and reach her?" I nodded and wrote my mom's number down on a piece of paper, then she took me to meet her husband. The twins were up stairs so they didn't know I was here yet.
"Hey hunny, there is someone you should meet." She said as we walked over. I saw him look up from his newspaper. I remembered them telling me a little about him, he was a struck man. Tough as a cinder block and not easily impressed. He looked at me then at his wife "Who is this?" He asked. "This is the girl our sons were telling us about. She can't get into her house and when she knocked no one answered, so she came here, and I said she could stay the night." He looked back at me "That's fine with me." He put his newspaper back up to his face. "Oh sweetie, what was you name again?" Mrs. Pines asked me. "Oh my name is Y/n, ma'am. It's nice to meet you." I gave her a kind smile. She returned it. "Nice to meet you too y/n. You can go upstairs, to the boy's room. It's the second door on the right, it has there names on it. Dinner will be done in a few minutes, alright?" "Alright. Thank you, and thank you for letting me stay." I smiled, and so did she bigger thou. " You, are very welcome." She smiled down at me then went back to the kitchen. I started to walk to the stairs but was stop by Mr. Pines voice. "It's nice to meet you Y/n." He said. I turned around and saw he hadn't looked away from his newspaper. "Nice to meet you too Mr. Pines." I said with a warm smile. I think I saw him glance my way for a second before going back to his paper. I turned around and went to find the twins room.
I went up the stairs and looked for the door with there names on it. I saw it in big letter "STANFORD AND STALEY" I knocked on the door. The voice of what sounded like Stanley came out "Mom? Is supper done? We'll be done in a second." I giggled a little before saying "I'm not your mom. Although, for the record, supper will be done soon." I heard both twins gasp as they tried to get up, by the sounds of it. This only made me giggle more as they opened the door. "Y/N!" They both screamed at the same time, both hugging me. I giggled more " Nice to see y'all to but I just saw y'all maybe a half-hour again. Y'all screamed like It's a been months or something ." They let go and looked at each other then me, and started laughing a little. Stanley, then grabbed my wrist and pulled me into there room, while Stanford closed the door. Stanley then spoke up. "Y/n What are you doing here?" I told them about what happens when I got home and how his parents said I could stay the night. "That's so cool." Stanford said as he smiled big. Stanley nodding in agreement. I opened my mouth about to say something when I noticed Stanford's hand.
I froze staring. H-h-he had six fingers... was I seeing this right? I think someone had said something but I couldn't tell. I zoned out into my own thoughts, staring at Stanford's hands. I was pulled from my thought when a hand was placed on my shoulder. It was Stanley " Hey Y/n you there?" I jumped a little "Huh.. what?" "Are you Ok?" Stanley asked looking worried. "Uh.... oh y-yeah Stanley, but uh.... Stanford?" He looked up at me a little confused. "Am I seeing things or do you have s-six fingers?" He looked really nervous, after I had ask. "I thought you already knew since Crampeltor pointed it out this moring." So I did hear him right... " but y-yes I do." I froze, again, I couldn't believed there was someone else who had the same rare birth defect as me. Standford looked worried, like he was afraid I would think differently of him now. He kinda looked like he wanted to run away, afraid of my rection. Stanley watched as this went down, and broke the silence that had formed after Stanford said yes. "Y/n are you Ok? Your not weirded out are you?" I still couldn't speak I was to shocked, all I could do was slightly shake my head, no. Looking over to Standford then back at me, "Then what's wrong?" I opened my mouth but i couldn't get the words to come out, so I took off my hoodie. I took a deep breath and stared to take off my gloves. Stanley and Stanford shared a confused look with each other.
When they looked back at me I had both gloves off and my hand were behind my back. After taking another deep breath, I slowly brought my six fingered hands from behind my back into eye view. We stood there for a minute, the boys staring at my hands wide eyed in disbelief. "What the...." was all Stanford could say as he walked forward a little and took my hand to look at my fingers as if to see if it was real or not. Stanley was still standing there staring. Stanford face grow into a big smile, and he broke the silence. "OMG!! I can't believe it!!!" He scream excitedly
"You have the birth defect I have, This is so cool! I thought I was the only one who had this." I started to smile, blushing a little bit from his words. "Yeah I thought so too." For the first time since I showed my hands, Stanley said something. "This is so cool. You both have the same birth defect. It was complete destiny we all met. We were destined to be best friends!" He said laughing and pulling us into a big hug, with us laughing too. He had a huge smile on his face, we all did. He let us go and said. "We now have sixer." He pointed to Stanford, " and sixette." He pointed to me. Me and Stanford looked at each other and back at Stanley, we all broke out in laughter.
When we called down I smiled and said "Y'all are the first people to not make fun of me or hate my birth defect, thanks." They smiled "of course and you are the only person outside my family that are ok with it. So thanks to you to." Stanford said smileing at me. "Your welcome Stanford." "You can call me Ford if you want." I nodded my head, "and call me Stan, sixette." "Alright" That's when we heard their mom calling from downstairs. "KIDS, SUPPER IS DONE!" We all yelled down to her "COMING!" We got up and walk down the stairs to a table and sat down. Mrs. Pines came and gave us our food. We all thanked her and when she sat down, I decided to tell them about my hands. "Uhh.. I want to tell y'all something." Both adults looked at me and then I saw the twins giving me a 'are you sure' looks. They knew I was self- conscious about it, but they seemed so nice and if they were ok with Ford then why not me too. I mouth a "yes" and continued. "I know you know how Ford has six fingers on each hand." They both nodded looking confused as to what was happening. " Well I wanted to say.
...." I paused to bring my hands above the table to where they could see them. " I have the same birth defect."
They looked surprised at first but a minute later they both smiled, and Mrs. Pines said " That's amazing, Stanford, never knew someone else with it. The doctor said that more then likely no one in his life time would have it, and even if someone did, they would never meet. He said his kids might have it one day but it still would be rare. I'm guessing you were told that to...." I nodded. More then once. "...but look we proved what was said to be impossible, to be possible. It was almost like it was destiny that you all met." She had a big smile on her face. Stan spoke up and said "That's what I said!" He had a smile equal to the one his mom had. Mr. Pines said "I agree" and he went back to eating. I smiled at them happy to finnaly fit in somewhere. We all eat and talked for awhile.
When me and the boys were doen, Mrs. Pines let us go back up stairs. She had asked the boys to lend my some pjs they don't wear much anymore. Ford gave me a pair and I went to change. I can back and saw they had changed to. We sat on the floor talking about the Stan O' War, and what it was like for me in my home town. At one point in taking about it I almost started crying, a tear had fallen. I was bullied a lot in my home town by all the kids, even some alduts hated me. My mom didn't like my brith defect either, so i heard about it at home to. The only place I could let my hands be seen after I started hinding them was in my room. When the boys saw this they both embraced me in a hug, saying "It's ok." and "You have us now." I smiled I finally had friend that cared about me, this is the best thing that's happened in a long time.
We talked for another few hours, before we decided to get some sleep. The boys climbed into their beds and I climbed onto mine. Mr. Pines found an air mattress for me and we inflated it. There was enough room to keep it in the boy's room so we all sleep in there. "Goodnight Stanley, goodnight Y/n." Ford said. "Goodnight Ford, goodnight Stan." I said back. Then Stan said "Goodnight sixer, goodnight sixette." I giggled a little bit and so did Stan and Ford before falling in a deep sleep with a smile on my face. For the first time in a long time, I went to bed happy, not almost crying myself to sleep. I finally had friends and they cared about me no matter what. I couldn't be happier.
