I woke up and carefully opened my eyes. The last thing I remember was having a pain in my head at school and then everything going black. Now, I glanced around the room and saw machines all around me. I had a mask on my face and a tube coming out of each arm. I slowly moved my hand up and pulled the mask away from my face.
"Mum..." I croaked, looking at the sleeping figure on the chair besides my bed.
"JJ..." Mum said as she moved closer to me and took my hand in hers.
"You're awake..." she said happily.
"What happened?" I ask groggily.
"You collapsed at school. The doctors have run some tests and you've got a severe viral infection. They want to keep you in for a few days as you're dehydrated" Mum explains, as I carefully shift in the bed so I'm more comfortable.
"Okay..." I sigh. Great, now I'm stuck in the hospital.
"What time is it?" I ask, taking the mask from around my neck as a nurse walks in.
"It's just gone 8:30pm. I'm glad to see you're awake JJ" The nurse says, walking over to check on me.
"Have you got my phone?" I ask, wanting to call Josh to let him and his dad know that I'm okay.
"Yeah, here" Mum says, handing it to me.
"Right, I'm just going to give you this medicine. It will help with the nausea." The nurse – Amelia – says, pushing some medicine into my I.V. I thank her before she leaves.
"Mum you can go you know...I'm going to call Josh then I'm going to sleep" I say, giving her a small smile.
"Okay. I'll be by first thing tomorrow. I'll bring you some things" She says, collecting her things. She gives me a kiss on the cheek.
"Night sweetheart" She says, before leaving. I unlock my phone and click on Josh's contact. I click the facetime button and wait for him to answer. After a few rings he does, and his face appears on screen.
"JJ!" He says excitedly.
"Hey Josh" I say, giving him a smile.
"Are you okay?" He asks, right as his dad appears next to him.
"Yeah...I'm felling okay. They've given me some medicine to stop m throwing up but they want to keep me in for a few days on an I.V as I have a bad viral infection" I say, making the pair sigh with relief.
"That's good. You gave us quite the scare earlier" Tom says.
"Sorry..." I say with a laugh, quickly followed by a yawn.
"Right, I'll come see you tomorrow but for now go to sleep" Josh says giving me a smile.
"Okay" I say.
"Night, feel better" He says, before the call ends. I put my phone on the side before laying down. I get comfy before closing my eyes. It's not long before I fall asleep as my body is drained.

Time Skip to the Next Morning >>>
I woke up the next morning around 9 am when a nurse – by the name of Amanda – came to check on me and offer me breakfast. I politely declined the offer of food as just the thought of eating made me feel sick. I felt much better today – well better than yesterday – although my body still ached, and I felt drained. Amanda checked my pulse and breathing before she gave me some more medicine. Luckily, I only need one I.V. now as I was slowly improving so she was able to take the drip out of my right arm, only leaving one in the left arm. I thanked her and asked her for some paper and pens. She came back a few minutes with my mother right behind her.
"Hello sweetheart, how are you feeling?" Mum asked, as Amanda gave me some paper and pens before leaving to check on other patients.
"Better than yesterday but still yukky" I say, picking up the blue pen and starting to doodle. My mum sat down and started doing something on her phone.
"Mum...you can go to work you know? I'm fine" I say, giving her a smile.
"Are you sure because I can stay- ", She starts to say but I cut her off.
"Really, it's fine...it would probably be quieter" I say, muttering the last part.
"Okay, call me if you need me. Oh- here. I brought you some things from home" She says, handing me a bag.
"Thanks mum. Now go to work" I say, giving her a quick hug before she leaves. I sigh a little, laughing as well as how I finally managed to get rid of her. Amanda obviously saw me, as she came in laughing.
"Relieved?" She asked, sitting down on the end of my bed.
"Yeah. I love my mum, but god does she not know how to shut up!" I joke, making Amanda laugh. I took my bag and looked through it. My mum had packed me some clean pyjamas, a wash kit, my chargers, iPad and my doodle pad and pencil case.
"Ermm, am I allowed to have a shower?" I ask, wanting to get cleaned and changed.
"I'll have to ask the doctor but that shouldn't be a problem. I'll have to help you though as you could still become faint. I'll just ask if we can remove you I.V. and replace it when you come out" She says, before bouncing out of the room. A few minutes later she returns carrying a small tray.
"Righty. The doctor said you can have a shower. I'm going to remove this and then I'll put in a new one after you've finished" Amanda says, referring to my I.V. I nod, and she removed the needle from my arm. She slowly and carefully helps me up and makes sure I'm steady on my feet before I walk over to the bathroom in my hospital room. I get into the shower, with Amber waiting in the bathroom (I'm covered by the curtain). I wash my hair thoroughly and wash my body before carefully getting out of the shower. I dry myself off before getting into my pyjamas. I walk back out to my bed with Amber and sit down.
"If you want I can French braid your hair for you?" Amber says kindly.
"Thank You" I say, handing her my brush and hair tie. She brushes my hair before tightly braiding it.
"Now, whilst you're up. I'm going to quickly change your bed sheets" I nod my head and sit down on the chair. Amber gets a fresh sheet and changes my bed sheets before she gets some supplies to place a new I.V in my arm. By now it's gone midday and yet again I can feel my body gets heavy. Once Amber has placed the I.V and reattaches the drip she helps me back into bed and dims the lights so that I can get some sleep before Josh and his dad come to visit after school.
