Dante's pov

I still couldn't believe it when I saw Max wheeled in on a gurney . My mind started to go on auto polit , I gave everyone orders to do what they needed to do. I comforted Georgia , Max's wife. " Gerogia I need you to tell me what happened " I said . She manged to tell me that he collapsed on the dock of the lake they were visiting, I determined that Max's cancer was what made him collapse. My wife came up after hearing the news.

3 hours later................. ..

I was informed that Max was put into a coma and that I needed to step up in his place. Many thoughts raced through my head as I thought of the ways I could screw up then I remembered what Max told me on my first day. " Dante no matter what happens , always keep a clear picture in mind" his words echoed in my head. I needed to focus since now I'd be running the whole hospital by myself, fear panic and anxiety filled my head. But I knew that I needed to keep calm . So I called a meeting and told everyone while max was in a coma I'd be in charge.... Iggy approached me and sat me down " Dante I'm proud of you for stepping up but this is going to be the toughest job you've ever faced . Are you sure you can handle it? " iggy asked putting his hand on my shoulder and rubbing it to make me relax. " yeah I can handle it " I said even though I was lying to myself. I can't run an entire hospital without Max.

11 pm I returned to my apartment , I didn't get much sleep since Max was on my mind. I still remember when we first met I was a 16 year old interning at a clinic in San Francisco. I looked up to him and wanted to be just like him when I became a doctor so when I turned 23 he offered me a chance to be his assistant medical director. But the icing on the cake was just a few weeks before I became his assistant, I suffered a black out from my panic attack and was rushed to New Amsterdam. When I woke up I saw Max and Iggy by my side. They never left my side until I left the same night.

I went to sleep around 2 am. Then BEEP BEEP blared in my ear as my 5 am alarm went off. I did my normal morning routine feed my daughter , then have 2 cups of coffee then rush to work . I got a doughnut from the cafe. Ella a worker with the same name as my wife greeted me . " Hi Dante the usual " she asked handing me a double expresso cappuccino and chocolate doughnut. I payed and went to my office to get a few more minutes of sleep then around 8:30 am . Bloom woke me up , I put my coat on and followed her asking how Max was . " He's doing ok" she said " Dante are you sure you're gonna be able to handle Max's job." She asked . I took a deep breath " No I'm not sure Bloom, I'm scared I'm gonna screw up and let everyone down " I admit. I felt three hands , two on my shoulders , and one on my back. I turned around and saw Iggy , Sharpe and Reynolds . They were smiling at me and then Sharpe spoke up " Dante you won't fail , you have us and the entire staff of New Amsterdam will be there. To hold you up" she said reassuring me that I wasn't alone. I felt a smile spread on my face , soon I got straight to work.

Timeskip by medical stuff

I soon got called to bay 12. There I met 72 year old Martha Anderson , she was suffering from some heart problem that couldn't be identified. After looking over her medical files , I could not find any history of heart problems . " Mrs.Anderson, did you eat anything spicy the past few days?" I asked her thinking maybe she was just suffering from bad heart burn. " Well my grandson made me a ghost pepper taco the other day " she said. The ghost pepper almost made my heart stop .... I had whoever was beside me do what they had to do.

6 hours later . 9 pm

I finished up my shift and was heading to the parking garage to my truck. Getting in , I suddenly felt fuzzy my heart racing and my breathing quickened ... Acting quickly I reached into my glove box taking a pill , I relaxed after a few minutes. Starting up my old truck I went home to find my daughter there but not my wife. Figuring she's at a friend's I went to bed for the night.
