CHAPTER TWENTY SIX
It had been two days since Quartz was akumatised, two days since the last day of school, and two days since Nessa had last seen Quartz. It wasn't that Nessa didn't want to see Quartz, the demigirl had been the only thing Nessa could think about in the last two days, but Her mother had planned out the entire holiday for her. Between extra ballet class and sleepovers with Aja, Freddie and Arabella, Nessa didn't have much time to do anything she wanted.
"Are you alright, my queen?" Pollen asked her owner.
Nessa flashed her kwami a reassuring smile, "I'm alright Pollen, just thinking."
"You're thinking about Quartz again, aren't you?"
Nessa buried her face into her pillow, "It isn't that obvious, is it?"
"My queen, it's blatantly obvious."
"I know!!!!" The teenage girl cried. She threw the pillow across the room and off of her bed. "It's so annoying! I haven't been able to think straight lately. I haven't been able to focus on dance or my relationship with my mother. It's been two days! But she's all I've been able to think about!"
"Why don't you ask for her courtship?"
Nessa braided the ends of her hair, "I couldn't do that. Quartz is special, they deserve someone who would give them the world. I could only give them my Wednesday afternoon." Nessa looked at the picture frame on the side of her bed, Nessa couldn't see the picture because it was too dark, but she didn't need to, Nessa already had the memory memorised in her mind.
It was only two months before Nessa and her mother moved to Australia, it was her sixth birthday. Her father had taken her to watch the local performance of Giselle. Nessa had adored the dance; it was that day that Nessa had told her parents that she wanted to be a dancer.
Nessa still misses her father, although she knows she should hate him. Her father had left her, she wasn't enough. Luigi had abandoned Nessa and Ava for a son and a younger woman. 'Nessarose is the perfect daughter, dancer and student, if Luigi doesn't want to be her father, then that's his problem' she thought using her mother's voice, although her mother would never admit it, she knew what her role was. Nessa was supposed to be the bragging chip, the first-place trophy that was held up against her half-brother, the sign that Ava was the better woman.
Nessa slipped off of her bed and walked over to her balcony, "I haven't had time to check up on her, she probably thinks I hate her."
"That is a little rash."
"No, it's true!" Nessa was shaking, she struggled to keep her hands still, it was as if they had a mind of their own. "I'm supposed to be her friend! What type of friend doesn't check on you after being akumatised?!"
Nessa felt sick, she couldn't believe how bad of a friend she has been, no wonder Aja, Freddie and Arabella all secretly hate her. Pollen softly placed a hand on Nessa, though due to the size it felt more like a poke. "You can see her tomorrow and explain everything to her then."
Nessa shook her head, "No, I can't. I have dance class."
Pollen looked at her owner, the two haven't had the best chance to bond, partly due to Nessa's mother always watching the girl and another part is Pollen's fault. Pollen can be strict and bossy, and the last thing Nessa needs is another voice telling her what to do. Pollen let out a small sigh. She can help, although she knows this is wrong. "Why don't you visit her as Honeybee?"
"I can do that?"
"Usually, I would say no but this is different, I can see that this unsettles you, my queen. I doubt you will be able to fight well with Quartz on your mind."
Nessa cupped her kwami, "Thank you, thank you, thank you! Tomorrow I'm gonna buy you extra sweet honey drops!"
Pollen let out a small giggle, being tickled by kisses.
"Pollen, buzz on!"
Honeybee had momentarily gotten lost. She had only been to the Dales's home once, so the house was harder to find than she had thought. It took her a total of twenty minutes before she found the house. Honey knocked on Quartz's window.
"Honeybee!" The demigirl squealed before placing a hand over their mouth. Honeybee tilted her head at the odd action, Quartz pointed at a bed across from them which had a sleeping boy in it. "Benji is sleeping."
Honeybee felt stupid, she girl knew that the Dales had a lot of foster kids but for some reason, she never considered the idea that Quartz had to share a room. "Oh, my bad," Honey grinned sheepishly. Honeybee was holding her spinning top which was wrapped around the roof, "May I come in?"
Quartz looked at Benji. Honeybee was intrigued as she looked at top of Quartz's head, this isn't the first time she has seen Quartz with a beanie on, but it is the first time she has ever seen them tucking all of their hair in. Honey wondered why Quartz was trying to hide their hair, maybe a bad haircut.
"You can come in, but we will need to stay quiet, I don't know how I will explain why there is a hero in our bedroom."
Honey climbed through the window and into the room. As she stepped into the room a small blush appeared on her face, she was in Quartz's room! Sure, she has been to Quartz's room before but never had she been in it as Honeybee. Honey looked at Quartz and her blush grew even more; she was so close! There wasn't even ten centimetres between the two, Honeybee could feel Quartz's small breaths and see her hairline... "Your hair!" Honeybee was looking at Quartz's hairline, it was a dark brown, not it's usually bleach blonde and pink.
Quartz took her beanie off to reveal shoulder-length chocolate brown hair. They softly ran her fingers through her hair, she looked at the brown locks, "I needed a change, a change that I could control at least."
Honey frowned, "I'm sorry I didn't check up on you."
Quartz laughed, "It's fine, I mean that isn't a part of a superhero's job, is it?" Honey shook her head as Quartz smiled sweetly, "But thank you for bringing me home after the battle, god I was a mess."
Honey tried not to think about the aftermath of the battle, about how shaken up Quartz was, Quartz kept repeating how they couldn't believe they got akumatised, it was the worst reaction she had seen from an akumatised victim.
Quartz fidgeted with a bright pink brooch on her beanie, "Why are you? I mean, I'm not upset with you being it but it's late- early- it's one, shouldn't you be sleeping or something?"
"I couldn't sleep so I thought I would give you a visit, you always seem to calm me down."
"Oh?" Quartz raised an eyebrow, last time she checked, she didn't know the superhero well, but the way Honeybee was talking about her made it sound like they were besties.
Honeybee blushed, "Yeah." Honey touched her miraculous, out of both habits of playing with her hair and an idea coming to her mind. "Quartz, I have something to tell you."
Quartz nodded.
"Honey, buzz off."
"Nessa?!"
"Surprise!" Nessa stood in front of Quartz, her hands were sweating like crazy, hopefully, that was a smart decision. "Please don't tell anyone."
"Why did you do that?" Quartz wasn't mad, their voice was more of a squeak than a yell but Nessa couldn't help but feel like she was getting in trouble.
"I won't be able to see you for a while, my mum has been taking extra classes and all of these sleepovers with Aja, Freddie and Arabella. You also might be going back to London, so I wasn't sure when I would get to see you-"
Nessa was cut off by Quartz pulling her in a hug. Nessa froze, she was touching Quartz, she could feel her skin against the others, her skin was so soft, Nessa might have confused her for a pillow. Quartz started to pull away when Nessa placed a rushed kiss on Quartz's lips.
Quartz took a step back. "Oh my gosh, Quartz, I'm so sorry! I don't know what came over me!" Nessa covered her mouth as her eyes started to water, "That was so stupid!"
"No! That wasn't stupid, I'm just a little shocked." Nessa nodded, and the girl tried to hold in her tears. "I was just shocked you were such a good kisser."
"Yeah?" Nessa asked hopefully.
Quartz smiled, "Yeah."
Nessa chuckled softly, wiping away the tears in her eyes.
"Could we maybe try that again? This time I promise to not make you cry."
"Okay!"
Benji rolled around in his bed, "We should go, Benji is going to wake up if we stay in here." Quartz looked at her best friend, Benji is such a light sleeper, they were surprised that he hasn't woken up already.
