Chapter Thirty: New Friend & New Feelings
Elena's Pov
After Malia left to go find Wyatt and most definitely get back together with him, I was left alone in the nurses office.
I let out a sigh and sat down on the bed that Malia had been resting on.
I know I said I wasn't angry or jealous that Malia had chosen Wyatt over me.
I'm not. I really am not.
After all, Wyatt was her boyfriend, he loves her and I know she still loves him despite what happened.
It hurts...it really does...
But, as long as Malia is happy, that's all that matters.
And I want her to be happy with the person she really wants to be rather than being unhappy with someone else.
Especially when she doesn't feel the same way towards me.
Well, on the bright side, I'm leaving in just a few days.
Maybe when I go back home I can vent to my parents about everything that happened.
And hopefully they let me cry on their shoulders for not being able to get the girl I really cared about.
And going back home will give me a break from this place. I can clear my head and just take time to relax.
At least until I have to start college.
Now that's going to be stressful.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard a knock at the door.
I furrowed my eyebrows together in confusion.
There's no way it's Malia, she already left to go find Wyatt and I just know that they're going to need time alone to figure things out.
And Malia's friends had left to meet up with some of the aliens.
So, who is it?
"Come in" I managed to say.
The door opened and I wasn't surprised that it wasn't Malia.
However, I was surprised to see the werewolf girl, Wynter, entering the room.
Uh...what is she doing here?
She had left with the others after bringing Malia to the nurse since Addison and Zed offered to stay. Along with Wyatt and I.
"Uh...can I help you?" I asked.
Wynter looked surprised to see me but it quickly went away.
"Oh, sorry, I thought Malia would still be here. I wanted to see if she was alright" Wynter said.
I hummed and nodded.
"Well, she's fine. She left a few minutes ago to talk to your friend, Wyatt" I said.
"She's going to talk to Wyatt? Why?" Wynter asked.
"Well, she's going to talk to him so they can clear things up and, hopefully, get back together" I said.
That part made my heart ache, but I did my best to ignore it.
Malia made her choice and I have to respect it.
I looked at Wynter and chuckled when her eyes widened in shock and happiness.
"Really?" Wynter asked.
"Yeah" I nodded, smiling faintly.
She let out a disbelieving laugh before a happy smile appeared on her face.
"It's about damn time. We've been wanting them to get back together" Wynter said.
"Yeah, well, Wyatt had to realize he was in the wrong and Malia just had to admit that she still loved him" I chuckled.
I wanted the stupid ache in my heart to go away.
Wynter stared at me for a few seconds before a frown appeared on her face.
"And are you ok?" Wynter cautiously asked.
"Me? I'm fine. Why do you ask?" I asked, confused.
"Because you have a crush on Malia" Wynter said.
"I did, not anymore" I frowned.
I'm lying to myself, but I don't want her to know that.
My crush for Malia is still there, it's just going to take time for me to get over her, to remind myself that she chose Wyatt.
They're meant for each other and I don't want to get in the way of that.
No matter how bad it hurts.
"Well, either way, I just want to say sorry" Wynter said.
"Sorry for what?" I asked, confused.
"Sorry that you didn't get the girl you wanted. It must hurt a little" Wynter softly said.
"I guess. But I'm over it" I shrugged.
"Hey, if it makes you feel better, I'm sure there are other girls that would love to be with you" Wynter smiled.
My eyebrows furrowed together and I looked down.
"Do you really think so?" I asked.
"I know so. I mean, come on, you're a beautiful girl. Sassy and a pain in the ass, at least from Wyatt's perspective, but still beautiful" Wynter listed off.
When she said all of that a laugh escaped my lips.
I looked up at her and let a smile appeared on my face.
Wynter smiled at me and I swear I saw her blush turning slightly red.
I'm happy she got me to laugh and brighten my mood a little.
"Thanks, I needed that" I nodded.
"Anytime. I like making people laugh" Wynter smiled happily.
I nodded and ran a hand through my hair.
We stood there, neither of us said anything, but believe it or not it wasn't awkward or tense.
It was quite comfortable, to be honest.
Which is strange since we hardly talked, we only saw each other since we're both close to Malia.
"Hey, is it alright if I ask you something?" Wynter broke the silence.
I stared at her for a few seconds before responding.
"Sure, go ahead" I nodded.
"Forgive me for being rude, but, how did you know you're lesbian?" Wynter asked.
"Uh, why would you want to know that?" I asked, confused.
"I guess I'm just curious" Wynter shrugged.
"And you know what that did to the cat, right?" I asked, amused.
Wynter scoffed and rolled her eyes, but I could see her lips twitching slightly.
I chuckled before sighing.
"Growing up, I've always been more attracted to girls. Boys are good looking, don't get me wrong, but I've never felt anything for any of them. I always had my eyes set on girls, which is when I learned I was lesbian" I explained.
"Was it hard? You know, coming out to your parents?" Wynter asked.
I frowned and looked down at my hands, finding them more interesting than what she had asked.
Wynter noticed my discomfort and guilt washed through her eyes.
"I'm sorry, that was rude of me. You don't-" Wynter started but I cut her off.
"I'm a confident person in everything, but when I learned I was lesbian, I was scared. I accepted who I was, but I was scared to tell my parents. Mainly because they always wanted me to be their perfect daughter" I explained.
Wynter frowned but kept her mouth shut, letting me continue.
I swallowed a lump in my throat, trying to hold back my tears.
"I hid it for a few weeks, until I couldn't take it anymore. I sat them down in the living room and blurted out I was lesbian. They didn't say anything, they just stared at me like I killed our dog. God, they looked so disappointed" I explained.
A tear slid down my cheek and dropped to the ground.
"I cried to them and apologized for not being the perfect daughter they wanted, for being a disappointment. I figured they were going to kick me out, so I prepared to go upstairs to my room and pack my things so I could stay with my grandparents" I explained.
Wynter opened her mouth to say something when I let out a soft laugh.
"What I didn't expect was for both my parents to grab my arms and pull me into a comforting hug" I finished.
Wynter's eyes widened, clearly not expecting that.
Her reaction was mine when my parents did that.
"They hugged me so tight I swear I was being suffocated. When I realized they were both crying, I asked what was wrong, and before I knew it they were the ones that were apologizing to me" I said.
"Elena..." Wynter trailed off.
"They apologized for putting so much pressure on me to be perfect. They hated that their constant need of me being perfect stopped me from being who I truly am. The disappointment in their eyes wasn't aimed at me, it was aimed at them, they were disappointed in themselves. They believed they failed as parents" I explained.
More tears streamed down my cheeks as a sighed.
"I reassured them that they hadn't failed and that they shouldn't blame themselves. They cried even more and brought me into another hug. The three of us fell to the ground, hugging each other, never wanting to let go" I softly smiled.
Our knees hurt that day, but we didn't care.
"They promised that things would change from now on. That they were going to be better. They encouraged me to stop hiding and to be who I truly was. And I did" I softly said.
I turned to Wynter and saw she had tears of her own streaming down her cheeks.
"That was the day everything changed, and for the better" I softly smiled.
Wynter let a small smile appear on her face before she walked towards me.
She wrapped her arms around my waist and brought me into a hug.
I was surprised at first, but I sighed and let my arms wrap around her neck, hugging her back.
Honestly, her hugs felt nice, they felt warm and welcoming.
Hugging Wynter is different from when I'm hugging Malia.
And I mean different in a good way.
We pulled away from the hug a few minutes later, but surprisingly, we still held onto each others hands.
"You're very lucky to have parents like that. Not alot of parents would react the way yours did" Wynter smiled.
"I know" I nodded.
"At least you never have to worry whenever bringing a girl over" Wynter smiled.
"Please, the amount of times they tease me whenever I mention a girl I like is amusing but annoying" I rolled my eyes.
Wynter snorted in amusement and I followed her lead.
It felt nice to get that off my chest.
Especially towards someone like Wynter. She seems really nice.
Wynter removed her hands from mine before taking her phone out from her pocket.
"Take my phone and hand me yours" Wynter said.
"What, why?" I asked, clearly confused.
Wynter sent me a deadpan look before rolling her eyes in slight annoyance.
"So we can exchange phone numbers. Obviously" Wynter said.
My eyes widened in realization until it was replaced with curiosity.
Why would she want my number?
"I want us to exchange numbers so we can text or call whenever we want" Wynter responded, almost like she knew what I was thinking.
"Are you sure? I mean, we don't know much about each other" I asked.
"Exactly. We can start by exchanging phone numbers and see where that takes us" Wynter smiled.
I hummed before nodding in agreement.
I took my phone out and handed it to her, she handed me hers.
I typed in my phone number and, instead of putting my name, I decided to put a nickname.
"Alright, here you go" I smiled.
Wynter smiled and took her phone while she handed me hers.
I looked at her phone number that was now in my contacts, only to look at up at her with a deadpan expression.
She looked at me with the same expression as well.
"Darling wolfie, really?" I asked.
"Oh you're one to talk. Sexy redhead, really?" Wynter asked.
"I'll have you know that I'm quite attractive, and my red hair makes me unique" I huffed.
"Whatever you say" Wynter rolled her eyes.
I glared at her but all she did was smile teasingly.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes, stuffing my phone into my pocket.
"Look, just don't forget about me, especially if you want to be my friend" I sternly said.
"Of course I'll remember you. I could never forget a sexy girl like you" Wynter smirked.
My eyes widened at that, clearly taken aback.
I didn't expect her to say that.
And, feel free to correct me if I'm making a mistake, but do I feel my cheeks heating up...?
I opened my mouth to say something when Wynter's arm was suddenly around my waist.
I yelped in surprise when she pulled me closer to her, my chest resting against hers, our faces inches apart.
I gulped and, at this point, my entire face was red.
Wynter eyed me up and down, clearly checking me out, before her eyes met mine again.
"And who says I want to just be friends?" Wynter asked, a flirty smirk on her face.
Huh...?
"I'll see you later" Wynter smiled.
She brought her hand up to my face, gently patting my cheek, before unwrapping her arm from my waist.
She winked at me before turning around, she opened the door before walking out of the room.
The door closed, leaving me alone in the room, again.
I'm literally trying to process what just happened. It all felt unreal.
I slowly brought my hands up to my cheeks and I could still feel how hot they were, I was still blushing.
Wynter really is different.
Malia was mainly flustered whenever I was around her, whenever I flirted with her or called her 'cutie'.
Wynter, however, she's bold. Maybe even bolder than me.
Never has any girl flirted the same way I flirt.
The confidence she had impressed me, the smirk on her face amazed me, her smirk is similar to mine.
And...the fact that she could be interested makes my heart flutter.
Something tells me that I'm going to be alright.
Maybe, just maybe, Malia not choosing me was a good thing.
Because I might've found someone else...
