Chapter 28

Day 42:

Dipper wanted to explain this to Pacifica, but after the tears and the storming off yesterday, he couldn't bring himself to call her.

"W-why didn't you tell me?" Pacifica asked, taking a step away from him. "Why wouldn't you tell me that?"

"I don't know." Dipper replied. "In all honesty I didn't think you'd fall for me."

"You could've at least said something!" Pacifica frowned and turned to face him. Kaori had left the room and left the couple the fight.

"You never gave me the chance." Dipper said softly.

"So that's how you met your friend." Pacifica stated wryly. "But when you made the deal, how'd you know I'd give in?"

Dipper sighed and looked out the window. He didn't think he'd have to tell Pacifica, but unfortunately for him. It slipped out.

Day 43:

So how much time does he have left?

Pacifica had decided against telling Gideon that Dipper was going to die soon. "Gideon, you think I should see Dipper?"

"Uh....does that mean you have fallen for him?" Gideon looked up from his food.

"I guess it does." Pacifica murmured.

"So...what was with the deal?" Gideon raised an eyebrow.

"He removed it." Pacifica admitted. "Turns out he actually likes me. Like genuinely."

Gideon laughed. "That's weird. But if he likes you, go and see him."

"Alright! Thanks Gideon!" Pacifica tore out through the front door and made her way to the hospital.

Day 44:

Dipper looked up as Mabel entered the room. "Hey Mabes." He said sleepily.

"You look like complete-"

"Don't say that around the kid!" Dipper hissed and jerked his head towards Kaori.

"Sorry." Mabel clenched her teeth. "So, what'd you tell Blondie?"

"That I was going to..." he looked down at Kaori with a sad expression. "Die."

Mabel bit her lip, "how much longer?"

"A little over two weeks." Dipper explained, briefly.

"Seriously?" Mabel's eyes widened. "That little time?"

"I know I know." Dipper groaned. "It's not nice to know."

"Isn't there anything the doctors can do?" Mabel questioned.

Dipper shook his head sadly. "No. There isn't."

***

Day 45:

Pacifica looked at the hospital and debated on going in or not. She clutched her bag tightly and started to turn around, but someone pushed her forward and Pacifica was surprised by who it was. "Mabel?"

"Look, he wants to see you." Mabel sighed. "I'm not gonna stand in the way of my brother's happiness."

"Looks like he talked some sense into you." Pacifica chuckled. "Thanks Mabel."

"Yeah yeah yeah. Whatever." Mabel grumbled.

When Pacifica entered the hospital, she looked around for Dipper's room. But she couldn't find it. "Mabel, where's Dipper?"

"Oh yeah, sorry." Mabel winced and led Pacifica to Dipper's room.

He looked up in surprise when he saw Mabel and Pacifica. "Hey Mabes."

"Hey Dipstick." Mabel rolled her eyes and Pacifica laughed.

"What's so funny about Dipstick?" Dipper frowned.

"You're right. It isn't funny.....it's hilarious!" Pacifica laughed.

"Shut up." Dipper grumbled.

"Oh Dipper, I'm only teasing." Pacifica smiled at him.

"Sure you are." He tried not to grin.

***

Day 46:

Days were going by fast, and Dipper knew it. He couldn't help but wonder how much time he had left. He glanced towards the clock and wondered if he should get some sleep. He tried to close his eyes, but he couldn't help but think:

What if I don't wake up?

***

Day 47:

Pacifica knew his days were numbered, and she wondered how much time he had left. She knew there wasn't much time, but she hated thinking negatively. "Gideon? What would you do if you had just found out something tragic will happen to someone close to you?"

Gideon shrugged. "I'd spend as much time as I possibly could with that person. Why?"

"No reason, I just-"

"Paz what's wrong?" Gideon grew concerned.

Pacifica felt tears sting the corners of her eyes. "Dipper's...Dipper's.."

"He's what?" Gideon gave her a confused look.

"Dipper's dying."

***

Day 48:

"Will's worried about you." Mabel announced during her next visit.

Dipper sat there in silence. He didn't feel like communicating.

"He wants to visit." Mabel tried.

But nothing.

"Dipper what's wrong?" She raised a brow.

Silence prevailed.

"I can't help if you don't tell me what's wrong." Mabel frowned.

Nothing.

"Dipper talk to me!" Mabel grew even more concerned.

"How can I talk casually when I know that in two weeks I'll die?" Dipper raised his voice pretty darn quick.

Mabel flinched. "I'm trying to take your mind off of that!"

"Well try harder!" Dipper shouted.

"Dipper please..."

It was at that moment, Dipper realized that his sister, w as crying.

Day 49:

"Why didn't you tell me about him?" Gideon asked. He had been going on this for a couple days now and Pacifica was starting to get annoyed.

"I didn't know until a couple days ago, and it wasn't like I'd go to you right away. Because you and Robbie would tease me about him." Pacifica crossed her arms. "It's embarrassing."

"Paz...how much longer does he got?" Gideon changed the subject slightly.

Pacifica shrugged. "Less than a month."

"Darn...." Gideon looked up at Pacifica. "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault." Pacifica offered.

"Sorry is also a word of sympathy." Gideon explained with a small smile. "Something tells me that he'll pull through."

Pacifica looked at him, "how do you know?"

"I just know...."

***

Day 50:

He couldn't take it. The hospital felt confining. He slowly got up from his bed and walked over to the door. Feeling dizzy with every step, he grasped the handle tightly. He opened the door and began to walk out.

Outside of the hospital, it was coldish but the air felt fresh and it was just what Dipper needed. He breathed in the fresh air and sat on the steps of the hospital thinking about what he had done for his life. Thinking upon it, he realized that he hadn't done much, and he disappointed himself with that. He signed and looked up at the sky, watching the stars. "Why did this have to happen?" He asked to no one in particular. "Why Me?"

***

Day 51:

It had been awhile since Pacifica saw Dipper but Mabel had told her that he was acting strange and that she best keep away, for Dipper's sake. Pacifica stared out the window and heaved another sigh. "Gideon, I feel like I'm waiting for something good to happen."

"Like a miracle?" Gideon poked his head out from the kitchen.

"Exactly that." Pacifica nodded. "A miracle."

"Would this miracle have anything to do with Dipper surviving?" Gideon asked.

"Maybe...." Pacifica bit her lip. "I don't want him gone, Gideon."

"I know you don't Paz, but life goes on." He explained softly. "You just have to play the hand your dealt."

***

Day 52:

Dipper sat quietly in his bed staring at the white ceiling. He couldn't believe how bored he was. He wanted desperately to get out of the hospital, but he knew that in order to get better, he'd have to stay put. He huffed and picked up a book from the table next to him. Kaori had been so nice to drop off some books for him to read so he wouldn't die of boredom. He chuckled at that thought, and suddenly felt uneasy.

He couldn't make jokes about his death anymore. Because it wasn't funny at all.

Especially when it becomes a reality.

***

Day 53:

"Hey Paz?"

Pacifica looked up from the Journal and saw Robbie. "Yeah Robbie?"

"It's your turn to watch the Mystery Shack." He told her before taking a sip of whatever soda he was drinking.

Pacifica turned away from him and looked out the rain soaked window.

"Hey, you alright?" He asked.

"What would you do, if someone close to you was dying?" Pacifica asked softly.

Robbie looked like he was in deep thought. "I would try my best to appear strong for their sake."

Pacifica nodded.

"Why do you ask?" Robbie's usual playful tone and look went away and was replaced by seriousness.

"Someone I know is going to die." Pacifica whispered.

"A friend of yours?"

"Yeah." Pacifica whispered.

"Who?"

".....Dipper."

***

Day 54:

I should just die now. There's not point in suffering any longer. It would be a quick death. I wouldn't be in pain anymore. I wouldn't live in fear anymore. Life wouldn't be sour anymore. I could be happy perhaps? Things aren't looking too good and I know I don't have much time left. And I hate feeling terrified. I hate being scared. Because that's not me. Maybe I should just give up. Who knows...maybe I'll feel better when it's over. I should just die and get it over with. No point in dragging out my death for others to feel sorrow. I won't be missed~

***

Day 55:

"Pacifica I'm sorry....for teasing you about him." Robbie murmured to Pacifica who sat on the couch. Tissues around her. "I had no clue."

"But I do love him." She whispered. "He touched my heart and I can't get rid of that feeling he makes me feel whenever I'm close to him."

"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" Robbie asked.

"Unless you can heal people, I don't think so." Pacifica sighed. "But thank you."

I'm sorry Dipper~

***

Day 56:

"Hey Dipper."

......

"You alright?"

......

"Come on, it isn't horrible."

......

"You can get through this." Mabel encouraged. "You can beat this."

"I don't think so, Mabel." Dipper finally said.

"Yes you can!" Mabel shouted.

"I can't, Mabel. It's hopeless." Dipper sighed and leaned his head back. "It's hopeless for me at least."

***

Day 57

Pacifica walked to the hospital, fighting the feeling to run. She had to see Dipper. She knew that she had too. She walked into his room and saw him resting. "Hey Dipper." She sat down next to him and sighed. "I'm sorry that you have to go through this. But I know you can do it. If you don't trust yourself, then at least you can trust me." She took his hand and held it tight. "You have some much to live for, I know you feel like this is the easy way out. But you can survive and pull through. I know that you're a fighter. You'll fight this." She felt tears rolling down her face. "Think of your sister, Kaori, your friends, your parents, your family. Think....Think of me." She finally allowed herself to burst into tears there.

***

Day 58:

Was Pacifica right?

"Kaori, what do you think." Dipper asked.

The six year old shrugged. "I don't know what to think of it. But I believe you can make it through this. You're better than this stupid thing."

"Heh, I'm not sure."

"You are, and you can fight this." Kaori smiled. "Think of what Pacifica said."

"You heard her?" Dipper frowned. "Where you eavesdropping?"

"....maybe."

And Dipper felt himself smile at her. And this was a genuine smile. It was something he hadn't done in a long time.

***

Day 59:

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper will make it.

Dipper has to make it.

He has to survive.

He....He just has to!

No matter what, I know that he'll survive this!

.....please do.

***
