7 | Join The Gang

"SO, YOU CAME BACK FOR ME," Louis smirked, tilting his head, "Millie said she didn't think you would."
After a tiring row boat ride all the way to the cove, I found Louis perched on a tree branch on the shore. He had his feet dangling off towards the ground, his back pressed against the rigid bark.
I had told Smee I was canon melding, and that's why I was able to sneak over here.
"Well," I exhaled, tossing a paddle onto the sand, "Millie doesn't seem to like me."
Louis hopped onto his feet, hitting the ground with a soft thud. His fairy companion had left before I could climb out of the boat, which just confirmed the fact that she hated me.
"She's just over protective," Louis said, shrugging "she'll warm up to you eventually."
"Maybe."
"I'm just glad you decided to come back."
I cocked a brow, "why wouldn't I?"
"Exactly what I thought," he grinned, leaning towards me, "you still need that kiss from me."
Narrowing my eyes suspiciously, I took a step back from the boy so I could lean against the tree trunk. Crossing my arms against my chest, I stared at him inquisitively.
"For someone who doesn't like relationships," I pressed, "you can be incredibly flirtatious."
"I never said I didn't like relationships, I said I didn't like to be in them," Louis shrugged, before turning towards the forest behind us, "there's a difference."
"Should have made that difference clearer."
"Why? It shouldn't be a problem unless you're planning on dating me."
"Which I'm not," I cut in quickly, changing the subject, "why am I here again?"
I didn't want to seem rejective, but I was peeved that I had to worm my way all the way over here (which is hard considering I'm being held captive by a bunch of pirates) just for him to throw a few flirtatious comments at me.
Not to mention, we both knew he didn't really mean them.
"Follow me," Louis said, waving his hand, "I want you to meet some people."
As I followed him into the dark forest, I adjusted the sash on my waist in boredom. I hadn't been on the land yet, but I knew it would take a while to get wherever we were supposed to go (so I had to do something to fidget with).
"You ditched me," I said, breaking the silence, "I fell into the water, and you ditched me."
Louis exhaled. I could tell he was waiting for me to bring this up.
"I didn't ditch you," he noted, turning to look at me, "who do you think led the boat to you?"
I frowned, "you couldn't just swim me to shore?"
"About that..."
"What about it?"
"I can't swim," he mumbled, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly.
Oh.
I didn't know what explanation I was expecting, but this definitely wasn't it. I suppose it made some sense, but I needed it to make total sense. Because of that, I almost died by falling off the plank.
"Okay," I sighed, dodging a stray tree branch, "but why would you lead Hook to me? He's literally your greatest enemy."
"I don't know if he's my greatest enemy," the boy mumbled, "but it was because I knew he wouldn't kill you."
"He tried to."
"But he didn't."
"For someone who's lived so long," I laughed weakly, "you lack a lot of common sense."
"And you lack years of living in Neverland," he said, "everything here is predictable."
Predictable?
I wasn't so sure of that anymore. I thought everything would play out exactly like it did in the story, but it's been going awry every single second. It was also not comforting to know that I could die.
No restart button. I was just as human as I was back on Earth.
"So you knew I'd fall out of the sky?" I questioned.
"No," Louis explained, "but I knew you'd be safe when I led the Sea Devil your way."
"You did?"
"I couldn't save you myself, so I had to save you some way."
I suppose he had a point.
Even though I couldn't wrap my humanitarian societal head around it, it made sense for Neverland. I just hoped nothing like that happened again.
"I see," I nodded, "well, thank you for that, then."
"You're welcome."
"So who am I meeting?"
Letting out an excited squeal, Louis skipped over a rock happily. Apparently he had been waiting for me to ask that as well. Was everything really that predictable?
"The lost boys," he said, winking, "I think it's time for you to join the gang."
