Hattie had to wear the oxygen mask each night following Charlie leaving because she woke up each night unable to breathe and in a panicked state. With Charlie no longer in the country her safe haven had become extinct, unable to have the man comfort her whenever she needed Hattie broke down all of the time. Doctor Cody was forever coming in and out of Hattie's room and found Hattie crying. He knew she was missing Charlie and there wasn't much he could do about it.
Remus was visiting that day. He came in and found Hattie sat up in bed reading over a school herbology text book. There were piles of notes covering her lap and bed as well - all handwritten and full to the brim with annotations. Mind maps had been creatively drawn and flashcards carefully filled with select information.
Remus furrowed his eyebrows as he entered the room. Hattie was scribbling away whilst glancing at the textbook. She had her oxygen mask on and she was still hooked up to wires but nonetheless, she looked wide awake and productive.
He shut the door to the hospital room quietly and Remus edged his way towards the armchair that sat idly beside Hattie's bed. "Darling, what are you up to?" He asked his niece crossing on leg over the other.
Hattie placed her quill down and turned to Remus, "Oh, hello. I'm making notes." She held up her working page.
"I can see that, Hattie, but why?"
"For when I go back to school. If I have my notes written up already then it's just a case of memorising them." She told him, "I've completed all of my O.W.L subjects. Now I'm making notes ready for N.E.W.Ts. I asked Percy to bring my books two weeks ago, I also gave him the money to get my N.E.W.T level books which he did. I go back to school soon. It's August now." Hattie pointed over at her wall calendar which had many markings on. Especially on September first - BACK TO SCHOOL! :) :)
Remus sighed. He could see how much Hattie was trying to get her life back on track. How much she wanted to overcome her immense pain and suffering. Yes, at first it had panicked her that she had missed her exams the first time around but it seemed now that she had moved on from this and accepted that she would be doing them later than everyone else and the fact she would not see Charlie for a while now.
Hattie saw Remus' frowning face and heard his sigh. "What's wrong?" She asked him, reaching out to take his hand.
"Sweetheart, you won't be going back to school," he told her gently. Her face fell and her eyes looked upset. "You need to be at home getting better. Plus, you'll be eighteen soon. You can use magic outside of school so I'll be homeschooling you again."
"But-"
"It's best for you, Hattie," said Sirius entering the room having heard everything, "Plus, you get to spend all day every day with Moony." He smiled standing beside Remus, putting his hands on his shoulders. Remus looked up at Sirius giving him a small smile to which Sirius returned.
Hattie looked at her notes and back up to them, "So when do I come home?"
Sirius bit his lip, "Hopefully soon, Doctor Cody and some others just want to make sure you're okay."
Hattie huffed and tore off her bandages flinging them to the floor. She held her arms up. "I'm okay! Look! Not a new one in sight!"
Both Sirius and Remus winced at the sight of her arms. They hated seeing the fact that Hattie had hurt herself right under their noses and they failed to see it. They both still had nightmares that they would lose her once more.
They were always sat up in the middle of the night talking. Deciding what they were going to do with Hattie and that was when they came to the conclusion of her being homeschooled by Remus. Sirius decided it actually. He knew Remus' work troubles and he knew how good of a teacher he was so he came up with the perfect solution. That and the fact Hattie loved Remus anyway.
Sirius carefully reached out and point her arms down on her lap. "We know, sweetheart, but it's just to make sure. You'll be home in no time. And when you are we can have whatever you like and eat whatever you like and do whatever you want."
"Can I hit Fred with a pillow?"
Chuckling, Remus sent her a questioning look. "Why would you want to do that?"
"I dunno, feel like it," shrugged Hattie packing up her revision and sliding it under the bed. "How's Tonks?" Hattie asked Remus smirking.
"She's got a boyfriend," Sirius stated, picking dirt from under his nails. "Apparently she has the best friend's brother vibe."
"Percy?" Hattie asked bemused, "Isn't he a bit...? Well, I always thought he would be with Oliver Wood."
Remus snickered, "No, she's with Bill."
Hattie choked on the water she was sipping. "Wow, okay. Wasn't expecting that but you know what, I can kinda see it." She tilted her head from side to side. "I thought you and her were...?"
Remus shook his head, "Oh no. No. No. I was helping her with some work and she was doing the same for me but that was about it."
Sirius shifted uncomfortably. Hattie spotted this. "Am I missing something?" She asked the pair.
"See by helping me with things I mean-" He glanced at Sirius who nodded, "she helped me do something I have wanted to do for a long time now."
"Do what?" Hattie asked, "Merlin's beard, I wasn't a Ravenclaw for a reason here! I can't solve riddles."
"You see, darling, Remus and I, are well, together." Said Sirius taking Remus' hand.
"In love?" The two men nodded. "Does that make him my dad too?"
"I guess so." Said Sirius.
"Wicked!"
"You're not mad?" Asked Remus.
She shook her head, "I have two dads! Of course I'm not mad!"
