Never Too Late

"Hey, Sil, whatcha thinkin' about?"

"...Huh? Oh, nothing..."

"Come on, don't lie to me; something's on your mind."

"It's just that...I wonder what my life would have been like if I was never kidnapped,"

"Cele~! Biiii!!"

"would everything be better?"

"Bi, bi, bii!"

"Or worse?"

"Celebi~!!"

The Celebi lured the raven-haired trainer deeper into the forest, messing around with him a bit.

"Hey! Where are you going?" The trainer chased after the legendary, avoiding other Pokemon and tree roots as he ran. Celebi stopped in an opening, where the moonlight shined perfectly over a small body of water, where the water types happily swam. The trainer eventually caught up, and Celebi decided it was time. It flew higher up, making its body shine a light green color.

"Wait, what are you doing?" Gold asked, as if he would get an answer (come on Gold, you're not Yellow; you can't understand Pokemon no matter how much you want to). Celebi flew around Gold, covering him in the light as well.

"Oh, sh--"

Gold was lifted from the ground, and with a flash of light, disappeared off to who-knows-where.

...Thud.

Gold groaned, getting up off the ground. He looked around, seeing that he was in another forest, but not the same on he was at before...

"Cele!" The grass type grabbed the trainer's hand, trying to pull him out of the forest.

"Ohhh no! I am NOT gonna follow you anywhere, anymore! Look at what you did the first time I followed you!"

"Bi!! Bi bi bi!!" Celebi chirped, in a panic. Celebi knew exactly what was happening, but unfortunately, it was stuck with one of the...er...not so bright trainers.

For the next couple of minutes, Celebi continued to try and force Gold to move, but he continued to be stubborn. And that went on...and on...and on...

Until a loud screech pierced the air.

Celebi panicked more, flying towards the source, hoping Gold would get the idea to follow. And thankfully, he did.

They darted out of the forest, and Gold found himself looking at the city of Viridian. But that's not what quite caught his attention; it was the Ho-Oh that is landed near one of the homes, screeching out and poking its beak through one of the windows.

"What exactly happened?"

"I don't remember much...but Ho-Oh, who was under the Masked Man's control, came and burned my home down, killed my mother, and took me with it. At least, that's what father told me; he was away at a meeting and when he came back, he saw the destruction..."

"Oh my Arceus..." He just stood there in shock, trying to take in the fact that he's now watching the kidnapping take place.

"I didn't like it, Gold...I never want to experence the torture I went through ever again..."

"Bi bi bi!!" Celebi was now frantic, as if it was trying to get Gold to save Silver.

"Oh, yeah, right, now's my chance to make everything better for Silv!" The breeder sprinted towards the bird, probably without a plan (but it IS Gold; who knows when he's got a plan prepared or not). Reaching for his pockets, he released all of his Pokemon.

"You guys distract the bird, I'm gonna go in and make sure Silver's ok!" He commanded, already darting for the house. Some parts were ruined, but not enough to have the house collapse. Ho-Oh cries were heard loud and clear as he darted through the hallways, searching for a little redheaded child. He made it to the room Ho-Oh was searching, and he could hear crying. Gold walked over to the crib, peering in to find little Silver, clutching onto a stuffed animal with tears pouring out of his eyes.

Another screech of the legendary bird was heard, and Gold cautiously made his way to the hole that it made. It began to flap its wings, and took off, defeated.

Gold couldn't help but grin. He walked back to the crib, reaching in and taking Silver out, cradling him.

"Shh...everything's gonna be ok...you're safe."

Soon the cries reduced to sniffles, and then soon he was fast asleep. Gold smiled, putting his baby friend back in his crib. Frantic footsteps could be heard down the hall, and before he could be seen, Gold escaped through the hole that was created by Ho-Oh's beak.

He quickly returned all of his Pokemon, and ran off to the forest, hoping to find Celebi again.

"Bi!!"

"Alright Celebi! The deed has been done, now lettuce go!" (Please excuse Gold's lame puns).

Celebi nodded, taking itself and Gold back to the new present.

~~~
They flashed back to the forest, and Gold ran off, leaving Celebi behind. He was just too excited to see how different Silver is, and how happy he is. Where was his house again? Oh, yeah, Viridian. The trainer took Togekiss out once again, and flew to Viridian, eager to see how his best friend is doing.
When they landed, he went straight to Silver's house. Viridian hasn't changed at all, so it was much easier. He knocked and knocked on the door, but no one answered.
"Are you searching for the Gym Leader?" An elderly voice said behind the trainer.
He turned around to face the old man. "Is that who lives here? A redheaded boy with sorta long hair?"
"Ah, yes, that's the Gym Leader. Saw him heading to the gym earlier. He should still be there." The man said, pointing to the gym, which wasn't too far. Only a bit south if he remembered.
"Yeah, ok, thanks old man!" Gold shouted, running off for the gym. He heard the man shout back, "I ain't old!" back, but only laughed as he darted to the gym.
The automatic doors slide open, allowing Gold to walk in. There was no one in there, except a figure on the far other side of the room. It was dark, but he could still see the thin figure. Otherwise, he couldn't see much of anything else.
"I wasn't expecting you to come this early..." The familiar voice said, and Gold knew that voice all too well.
"Silver?"
"No, it's your mother." Silver replied sarcastically. "Who did you expect? You DID come here to fight our final battle, remember?"
"Our final battle?" The black haired boy asked. "What are you talking about?"
The redheaded boy just sighed. "You really are an idiot. How have you not gotten yourself killed yet? You really must have been lucky enough to escape the burned tower when it was collapsing."
"Wha...? But you were--" Gold stopped. This is different. Maybe Silver wasn't there to help him escape the tower when it was collapsing from that earthquake.
"The reason that the tower collapsed in the first place? Yeah, I know. I wanted Ho-Oh to come, AND kill you! Like hitting two Pidgey with one stone! Come on, I told you all this already!" He growled.
Gold just stood there, taking this all in. "You tried to kill me?"
"Of course! What the hell is wrong with you today? Did you hit your head a little too hard?" Silver flipped a switch, turning the lights in the gym on. Gold could hear a faint click behind him, and turned to look at the now locked doors.
"The doors are locked so there's no point in trying to leave."
Gold faced Silver again, who was wearing something different than what he used to wear. He wore a black suit, with matching black pants, and no gloves. His undershirt was white, with a red tie, and a red 'R' on his pocket. Other than what he was wearing, he looked like the old Silver; long red hair, silver eyes, and same hair style.
"Holy shit." Gold mumbled under his breath. Not being kidnapped led to Silver growing up with his family, and eventually taking over Team Rocket for his father.
Silver snapped his fingers, and on cue, two Rocket grunts grabbed each of Gold's arms, holding them behind his back. Gold struggled, but to no avail.
The new Rocket leader flipped another switch, which opened a trap door besides him, showing a set of stairs.
"Come." He said, and the grunts dragged Gold over and down the stairs, following their leader. Underneath the gym was another hidden Rocket base. Almost exactly like the one under the Game Corner in Celedon. They continued walking around the gray hallways, until they reached a door, much bigger than the other doors, and fireproof. Silver took out a card key, and opened the doors.
"You two can leave, I won't need any assistance." Silver said to the two grunts, who just threw Gold in as the doors were closing. He caught himself before falling, and looked up to see what could possibly be in here, that would require a fireproof door.
"So destroying that tower did indeed bring Ho-Oh, and I captured it." Silver smirked. "It wouldn't listen to my commands, and that's when I stole all the gym badges of Johto and Kanto. Are you scared? You should be."
Gold just stared up at the giant bird, but wouldn't let himself give in to fear. "No...this isn't right, this isn't you, Silver!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." He replied.
"This isn't you! You aren't evil! You may be an asshole, but you're not evil! The Silver I knew wouldn't let himself be consumed by the darkness! He wanted to be good! He wanted to be apart of the light! No matter what happened to him, he fought evil!" The trainer shouted. "This is all my fault that you've turned into this...this...this monster!"
"You really did hit your head a little hard, didn't you? Did you forget who I am?" He chuckled darkly, something he must have gotten from his father. "I'm Silver, son of Giovanni, leader of Team Rocket, Prince of Darkness, your enemy. If you think a couple of cheap words will get me to surrender to you, then you're wrong."
"Why are you doing this?"
"Why do you think? Power and control! When I take over Kanto and Johto, I'll move on to Hoenn, then Sinnoh, then Unova, and no one, including you, will be able to stop me!"
"Then let's just get this battle started, and I'll show you how wrong you are." Gold said, grabbing a Pokeball, and releasing his Ambipom. Silver grabbed one as well, releasing his Weavile.
And their battle begun.
~~~

"Explotaro, take down!" Gold's Typhlosion attacked Silver's final Pokemon; Ho-Oh, but it seemed to barely take any damage.

"Ho-Oh, drill peck." Silver commanded. Typhlosion was close to fainting but wouldn't give in this quickly.

"Rollout!" The fire starter darted towards Ho-Oh, and quickly rolled into a ball. Ho-Oh flew up to dodge, letting Typhlosion crash into a nearby wall, fainting. Gold only had Togekiss left, and he released his last Pokemon.

"Togetaro, aura sphere!" The flying type launched the blue orb at Ho-Oh, which successfully hit.

"Sacred fire!" Ho-Oh used its most powerful attack, burning Togekiss in powerful flames.

"Heh, you should just give up now, considering the status of your Pokemon." Silver smirked.

But it was Gold's turn to smirk. "Not so fast." Sparkles surrounded Togekiss, showing that it was now completely healed, after nearly fainting. "I had Togetaro use wish, just for good measure. But now, metronome!" Luck was on Gold's side, and the move ended up being rock slide, hitting and knocking Ho-Oh out.

The trainer smiled and returned Togekiss, before walking over to the silver eyed boy. "The Silver I knew never lost against me, so this is a first."

Looking down, he chuckled darkly again, which then turned into an evil laugh. Gold backed up, a little scared; he's never heard Silver laugh before and hearing him like this kinda frightened him.

"You think I lost? I would never lose to a dimwit like you!" He laughed. He then looked up, with a different look in his eyes. Something Gold never saw before. What was it though? Fear? No...uh, sadness? Definitely not.

The redhead grabbed Gold by the neck, and forced him against the wall, choking him. The raven haired boy gripped Silver's hands, trying to pry his hands away. When that didn't work, Gold kicked him in the stomach, forcing him to let go and take a couple steps back. Too bad it wasn't hard enough to knock him down (Gold still thinks of Silver as his best friend; he's not going to hurt him that much). Taking deep breaths, Gold went to punch Silver out of panic, only to have his fist caught. Silver started pushing the other boy's hand back, so that he was forced to move down to stop the pain. When he was down, he attempted to take his hand back, but before he could, Silver kicked him in the ribcage hard. Gold laid on the ground in pain, and got repeatedly kicked in the chest until he was coughing up blood.

"I told you I don't lose! I never lose!" He yelled, continuing to laugh. The breeder looked up at him, finally realizing what was in his eyes.

Insanity. Silver, his best friend, has gone completely insane.

Reaching into his pocket, the crazed Rocket pulled a small handgun out, smirking.

"I've killed many, many people and Pokemon, so don't think I'll hesitate to kill you too."

"Y-You're not Silver...you're a monster...s-sure, Silver w-was a th-thief, but he p-put that behind him...y-you're a--" He didn't get to finish before the trigger was pulled. It took a while for it to register, but when it did, tears poured from his eyes and blood escaped through the wound and his mouth.

"I told you I wouldn't hesitate." He said, still smirking and shooting him again for good measure.

His golden eyes were beginning to close. But he couldn't die, he couldn't let Team Rocket win. But what could he do? He was on the verge of death.

A familiar bright flash of light lit the room, and consumed Gold. But...this wasn't death.

"Cele! Biiii!"

The light dimmed down, showing that it was night, and that they were still in Viridian.

Gold looked at himself, still laying on the ground, still bleeding to death, but the ground was cold and grassy. Celebi floated next to him, watching the nearby house.

Silver's house...

The golden eyed trainer watched as Ho-Oh flew to the house, burning the house up, and taking a baby away. Taking Silver away. With no one to help...

Light covered Gold's wounds, healing him. "So you took me back here, and let the kidnapping happen, to save me?"

Celebi nodded, happily spinning around. Gold smiled. "Well I guess this is for the best anyways...even though I feel kinda sorry for him." He sighed. "Celebi, I think its time to go back to the present. The right present."

Nodding once again, Celebi started the time travel process again, bringing them back to the present.

They were once again in Johto, in the forest they were at before this whole trip. Gold ran off, looking for the others. He came here with them and got lost at some point.

"Damn, I hope it hasn't been too long." He whispered, running through the forest.

Not watching where he was going, he bumped into someone, falling down on top of them. Before looking to see who it was, he already started to frantically apologize.

"Oh my Arceus, I'm sorry, I didn't--" He paused, looking at who it was. "Silver! Good ol' Silver! My best friend!!"

"Uh...yeah?" The highly confused Silver said.

"I missed you so much!"

"It's been like five minutes."

"And I missed you so much during those five minutes!"

"...Did you hit your head on a branch or something? Should I be worried?"

"No! Not at all! I'm fine, and you're fine! More than fine, you're perfect!"

"...Crystal! There's something wrong with him! Call a doctor or something!"

"Silver, do me a favor and never change who you are! You're great the way you are and and and--"

The redhead put a finger to the breeder's lips. "I have no idea what has gotten into you, but please, stop. You're freakin' me out."

"But you're perfect the way you are and don't change...I love how you are now."

"...Get the fuck off me."
