Never Vision

Nathaniel:

"Luke and Mike can not be trusted." I stare into a live video camera. "You must be an idiot to vote for them. You think they are the greatest thing since slice bread, but I can vogue that Mike never completed high school and Luke had been manipulating every one of us this whole time to make sure he gets everything he desired."

I press the "10 second till end" button.

"If you are smart you would vote for Ames. He is the only one who actually cares if anyone lives or dies."

The video ends as the taxi pulls up my driveway. I quickly pay the driver and rush inside, the rain pours like the ocean is falling on my shoulders.

I ran into the elevator at my house, not even stopping to talk with any of my siblings in the kitchen.

Dustan wasn't even thinking straight. He did not have his priorities set, and he must certainly not care about Ames winning this election like I do. Take a break! Yeah, I'll take a break, to show you a certain finger.

Inside the elevator, I sit on the floor as it rises to my level. I tuck my knees up into my chest and sit. I sit silently, no tears, only frustration that I am the only one still standing up for the rebels.

I glance up at the elevator door, there is a giant dent, like someone punched the elevator. I run my fingers along the cavity, it's the size of my hand. What could make something like this?

I grasp my forehead as another vision hits my mind.

Azun is running at me: "Nathaniel!" He screams.

I feel two men holding me, blood dripping down my noes as they shove me into the elevator. Azun is running for me.

"Hold on!" My brother shouts.

"Azun help me!" I beg.

The doors shut right as the vision disappears, and the elevator doors in the real world open.

I stand up to walk down the long hallway to my bedroom. All I can do is glance at the opposite elevator, where I was held hostage in that strange vision. I usually never take the elevator I took today, I had never noticed the dent before.

My eyes dart to red stains on the carpet. Blood as scarlet as a women's lips, dropping across the floor. The drops lead from my room to the elevator that didn't have the dent.

I followed the trail to the elevator, examining the evidence, trying to figure out what happened here.

If Azun never reached me in time, he would turn around and move to the other elevator and run after me.

Something must of happened that would cause Azun to get stuck in that elevator, he would never try and damage his body just to get out of an operating elevator.

It had to be Mike or Luke, maybe even Ames. They must of shut down the elevators. I couldn't remember my capture's faces. There were three of them, two holding me and one pressing the button down.

Why would these people want me? My power of flight is not that amazing, why would anyone want me for that power? There must be something greater then myself going on.

What would Azun do after he realized that I was gone when he finally got out of the elevator? Would he of gone running down the street, screaming my name. Or.... would he of returned to his room to devise a plan.

I turned and walked back to my own bedroom, following the drops of blood like bread crumbs. I placed my hand on the cold golden handle.

What did Azun do?

My fingers stop, mid-turn, I gaze at the wooden frame around me.

Azun would return to his bedroom.

I spin in my heels and creak open the door of my brother across the hall from me. I was surprised Azun's door was unlocked. He usually locked it, so others couldn't get in. I always remember knocking.

The dark room has cobwebs in the corner, smaller then the ones at Vestry's shop, barely visible in the corner of the vast empty space. I walk along the creaking floorboards, the only sound this place had seen in ages.

Once again I ask myself-how long was I in that coma? Someone is lying to me and I don't know who. Mike and Luke say three weeks, Dustan and Ames say three months, Larkin told me it was a year, Aspen and Emler each said it was around seven months, Arielle signed me four months, and Jasper told me it was around twenty years. I don't know who to believe at this point.

As I walk, I notice the glass I step in with my shoes. Pieces of a crystal ball, the magic long faded from the individual glass.

I kneel down at the fire place, it's bare cold, nothing has touched it for months. The shattered ash staining my fingers as I deal my hand at the base.

There are many papers scrambled across the floor, I could only imagine a fight happening and Azun throwing the papers into the air to provide some vision shields.

Azun's bed is a mess, the covers and sheets aren't tucked in, very out of character for my brother not to make his bed. He always got on me for never making mine.

I pick up a book, the pages bent from how it laid on the floor. It's a fighting book. How To Aim A Shotgun: For Dummies. The title suggests more then I care to share.

Ok my brother's table, which is usually piles high with books and papers from work and school, sits a wooden box. It's open and as I gaze inside it, I can see this is a gun box. Not just any gun box-a dueling gun box.

I almost trip over a fallen chair as I step back. What was my brother doing with a dueling gun? I didn't think that The Colony Planets were that dangerous, at least that's where Luke tells me my brother is. None of my siblings have answered differently to the question. This one must be true. Azun must be on The Colony Planets. He had to be, if not, everything I know is a lie.

I jerk my head to the side to see a frame, an old frame. It's a picture of Azun and I at the zoo, that was years ago. Besides the picture sits my birthday present that I had long forgotten for some strange reason. The black sunglasses, given to me by Azun.

I grab them from my desk and I am instantly forced into a vision of many things-shocking truths and unforgettable memories all flashing in less then a moment.

Azun sits on his bed as I fly onto the balcony, the wind is cold. Azun hands me a present, I leave it to go see my father.

I don't remember what goes down with my father but I am angry and scared, I go to Vestry. Vestry does something that gives me the coat I am currently wearing, then I head to the woods.

The trees are dark then I see a mixture of light moving in lines between the trees, illuminating the night sky like an angel in the dark.

Then I snap awake. The vision leaves as it comes, suddenly and hard.

I place the glasses on my face, hoping for another vision to give me more insight. But nothing happens and I am left with more questions then I need.

I take the glasses back into my bedroom and collapse onto my bed, clapping my hands to turn off the lights.

My eyes stare at the ceiling, so white and pure, but my ceiling probably known more then I do. It must of seen everything I saw, if that vision really happened, I don't know why my brain can't retain it.

I hear my Net-pad ring, I grab the device. On the screen I see Ames is calling, I swipe left I answer.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Nathaniel?" Ames questions.

"Who else would it be?" I sass, stopping as I notice the sass coming. "Sorry, it's the middle of the night, what do you need?"

"The votes are in." Ames states. "Hurry down to the office building, they are announcing any minute."
