Never Remember
Luke:
"Has Nathaniel calmed down yet?" Mike asked me.
"Once I am done with him," I laughed, grabbing my operation kit, "It will be like he won't remember a thing."
"You look oddly nice for a brain operation." Mike commented as he noticed my new lab coat and suit.
"Thanks," I grinned, "Got a new style of suit. Not to mention I went to the eye doctor and get this. He told me I needed to wear these glasses."
I held up the tiny black pair of spectacles.
"Now you can match me!" He whipped out his giant sunglasses and brushing back his blond hair. "We are the perfect pair."
"I am going to give myself eye surgery," I told him, "I don't trust anyone else to do it."
"How can you do that?" Mike asked.
"Easy and simple. Lay on this table after putting myself under for about twenty-four hours, then when I wake up I go back in time to give myself eye surgery."
"Quite simple." Mike nodded.
"See?" I glared, continuing to work on my patient.
"I don't think you can, that's why you have glasses." Mike laughed.
"No, it a metaphor. You know what-never mind!"
I grab my bag and walk with my brother, who is also my best friend, down the hallway. When I first laid eyes on Nathaniel, I barely recognized the kid. He was young when we left, now he looks destroyed. His face all covered in bruises, his hair falling out, and he had some dry blood on his lips as well. Nathaniel was not the fourteen year old boy I remembered.
"He matured." Mike pointed out the obvious. Man, I hated how obvious my brother was.
"Yes, I can see that," I snapped, "Hand me my scalpel."
I went straight to work repairing his brain. He will forget all that happened in that prison. He will even forget the war, he will forget his argument with me. Everything will be forgotten, lost, obliterated. The last point he will remember would be his fourteenth birthday, the hour after receiving his power.
Mike went to collage on the art of war, strategy, and basically everything it took to be the king of Malison. I settled for brain surgeon, the only thing that challenged me. Azun wanted to be a lawyer, look how that turned out for him. Ames, for some strange reason, also became a lawyer. Although I totally thought he would want to be a general. Vestry went into robot making and whatnot. Dustan has been missing in action since he turned fourteen. I am pretty sure he wants to be a spirit monk or something weird like that. Nathaniel, he wanted to a doctor, whatever to that. I know Jasper wanted to do nothing with her life. Aspen wanted to be a dancer. Emler always told me that she wanted to be a sign language interpreter or school teacher, which I guess can be cool. Arielle never spoke, because she is deaf, so I don't really know what she wants with her little life. Larkin wanted to be a warrior hero. Of all my siblings, I believe I had made the best choice career wise. Just saying, I am superior to them all.
I finished mending my brothers broken pieces back together. He was healed and best of all, he wouldn't remember a thing.
"He has matured." I told Mike, taking off my rubber gloves. "Age fourteen and four months."
"Time to get him back into the real world." Mike said.
