Never Like Him

Ames:

Nathaniel is great. Except I worry that when that wall falls, and it will, Nathaniel will never be the same again.

Dustan chooses Nathaniel over me for the next debate. I know I'm a lawyer and a better choice. But Dustan is convinced that Nathaniel can get us some votes. The room is packed with citizens from our planet, all dying to see what we have to give. I know they are all excited about their new rights.

"Ladies and gentlemen." Nathaniel smiles like he just got done kissing his girlfriend.

Which we all know he doesn't have. He is literally like fourteen, and I hate how Luke made him mature with that stupid fire. I heard the rumors, I believe they are true. Luke is an idiot.

"Bear with me through my speech." Nathaniel directs the crowd's minds. "Are you all aware that this is the first time you get to choose your leader? We are making history here! The Zodiac rule has been the same for generations and now something new is happening. I intend to prove that Ames is the right to vote, he is way better then Mike in every way. For example, my candidate actually has a brain."

"Alright!" Luke stood up. He was directing the whole thing like a judge would in a murder trial. "I think you have proved your point, call up your candidate and sit down."

"Ok." Nathaniel rolled his eyes. "Oh! One more thing-"

Nathaniel talks for the next ten hours about "my" plan for rule. He downs that's a clue what I am going to do, but he makes me sound more qualified then Mike and Luke.

Nathaniel tells how I am going to rearrange the government to an organized state similar to the alchemist planet. How the freak does he know about the alchemist planet? That is one of the smallest parts of the galaxy, that planet can barely survive and defend itself.

I still can't believe he talked for ten hours. He is more self centered then me.

At the end of the debate, Mike doesn't even get to speak because it's three in the morning and everyone wants to go home. I lean over to Dustan and we talk for a while as the people file out the door.

"He is an exact replica of Azun." I notice. "Do you know what that means?"

"He would make a good lawyer?" Dustan guesses.

"No! It's only a matter of time till Nathaniel reaches that same fate that his brother reached."

"Suicide?"

"That's how Luke and Mike are going to make it look."

"What about the wall?" Dustan suggests.

"That wall is crumbling faster then ever." I stare at Nathaniel. "Luke did not do a good job."

"How do you know?" Dustan picks up his papers. "You are not a brain surgeon."

"I just know." I grab my stuff and run out the door.

Everything about Nathaniel reminds me of Azun and all I can picture in my mind is Nathaniel's dead eyes staring up at me. Whispering that this is all my fault.
