Chapter 10
Elijah and I laid in the grass, looking at the stars, each of us having an earbud plugged into Elijah's phone which was playing music.
"Not gonna lie, you have a sick music taste." I comment as I nodded my head to "The Ocean" by Mike Perry and SHY Martin. (Check it out. It's a great song)
"I mean, I spose so."
"Like we've been listening to absolute bops for like an hour."
"Has it been that long?"
"I dont know. I just guessed.i shrug.
"Oh okay."
"But like, Billie Eyelish, Julia Michels, Khalid, Kendrick Lamar, Marshmello, 21 savage, Tyler the Creator and most surprisingly, Niall Horan."
"Why are you surprised by Niall Horan? And besides theres like only two of his songs on this playlist."
"Because you just seem like a hardcore rap sort of person. I dont know. And also the fact that Niall is from One Direction."
"Okay, you cant tell anyone- especially Ethan and Denis this, but I think One Direction has some good songs."
"What?!"
"Yeah, they have some good songs."
"Why is music the only thing we agree on?"
"No clue."
"What songs do you like?"
"Uhm... Drag me down, Story of my life, uh... what's the name?" Elijah snaps as he thinks.
"I dont know."
"Act my age!" He exclaims.
"Good song." I nod.
"Maybe we should head back now?"
"I mean yeah." I nod and take out the earbud, the music now muffled and fading as I stood up. Elijah and I walked back over to the rocky wall that we ended up sliding down like five year olds.
We ended up skating back to courtyard B and Elijah asked if he could just stay in my dorm on the couch because he was tired and didnt want to go across the main road to courtyard A. I- feeling nice- let him.
We said goodnight and I thanked him for showing me the secret little area before I went to my room. I fell onto my bed and quickly fell asleep.
***
I yawned as I sat up, rubbing my eyes before stretching my arms above my head, groaning, not wanting to get up but having to because I had work. (I had recently quit my job at the off campus shop and got one at the cafe I usually went to)
I got dressed in a baggy t-shirt and sweatpants.
I headed to the kitchen and unexpectedly saw Elijah was already up and making breakfast for himself.(Cereal and Orange juice.)
"Oh, I thought you'd still be asleep," Elijah looked up at me, "or gone."
"Eh, I woke up like 2 minutes ago and I just... I'm not going to A right now." He shook his head.
"Fair."
"Yeah, I uh- I hope you dont mind me," Elijah motioned to the cereal.
"Nah, 's fine. As long as you didnt touch the root beer or the uncruastables, you're fine."
"I will remember that for next time I come over here." He sits at one of the three bar stools at the counter.
"Yeah." I shrug before checking the time, "Crap, I've gotta get to work." I mumble, slipping on my favorite, beaten up sneakers. "Hey, could you toss me an apple or somn'?" I ask Elijah, pointing to the basket of random things like Apple, granola bars, just random things Amie and I didnt want to put in the cabinets because we're lazy.
"Sure." He tossed me a granola bar which I caught as I tucked my skateboard under my arm.
"Later, looser!" I call before rushing out the door.
I skated to the coffee shop, eating my granola bar as I zigzagged through people. I finished just as I walked into the shop.
I threw my wrapper away and went to the employees only room where I put on an apron with my name written in messy writing on a name tag. I set my skateboard in the corner next to an other skateboard owned by one of the boys who works the early morning shift which was ending in like five minutes.
I headed out to the counter where Leo (The boy who owned the skateboard) had given an order to a customer. He had short blonde hair and pretty blue eyes. He was Elijah's height and well built as he played on the baseball team for the collage.
"You go ahead and get off your shift. I've got this." I tell him.
"Oh, Thanks, YN." He smiles kindly.
"No problem." I nod before a customer comes up to me and thus my shift started.
It had been like half an hour when little miss Cayla walked in.
"Hello, how can I help you?" I ask, my smiles strained.
"Just like... a coffee." She shrugs.
"Uhm, what type of coffee?"
"Like... a unicorn frappuccino or something."
"Cayla, this isnt a Starbucks." I deadpan at her.
"Whatever. Just like..."
"We can get you decaff or no with your choice of what to put in it. We are not a starbucks."
"Whatever, just get me decaff with a little bit of cream or whatever."
How the hell did Elijah put up with her.
"I'll be right back with that." I fake a smile before making her coffee.
About five minutes later my mood got alot better because a certain gay couple walked in. Not holding hands or anything, but they still came in. They came in alot so most of the time I knew what they were gonna order.
"Well, Hello there." I rest my elbow on the counter.
"Sup, YN." Denis waves.
"Hey." Alex waves.
"The usual?" I ask, grabbing two cups from the stack by the register.
"Yup." Denis nods, popping the 'p.'
"How was the party last night?" I ask, filling up said cups.
"Pretty boring." Alex shrugs.
"Well, you thought It was boring, I had fun." Denis turns to him.
"Yeah because you're outgoing and popular."
"He has a point." I give them their order as Denis hands me a $10 bill.
"Plus you, Ethan and Amie were smashed. Like, Ethan ended up getting blackout drunk." Alex points out.
"I wasnt that drunk. Was I?" Denis asks in a puzzled tone, tilting his head.
"You asked me if I had a boyfriend."
"I did?"
"Yeah and you got super clingy 'n' crap."
"And your change." I laugh lightly, handing Denis three dollars and fifty cents.
"Well damn." Denis purses his lips and looks up, looking at the wall behind me.
"Talk to you guys later." I smile as they waved goodbye, heading towards the lounge.
