Hard nut to Crack
Henry's pov
God! When she said personal matters the moment her phone rang, honestly, my heart skipped a beat, but I was relieved when I heard her saying, "Namaste momma.".
Damn it, what the hell is going on with me?
Oh, so she is talking to her mother. She talked to her mother for almost two hours. I guess.
Today She is looking gorgeous, as always, in a simple shirt and formal pants. Her every word and each move make me anxious to get to know her a little more.
She is avoiding conversations with me, and when I asked her to meet again, she refused without even thinking once. Seriously, I can't take this anymore. No one refused me or said no to my face, but this girl dares to do so, and that attracts me more.
The moment I said I trusted her, her expressions were enough to tell me that she was nervous now and that this was new for her. Well, it was new for me as well. I never trusted anyone easily, and now my heart knows that I can trust her.
When I signed all the documents, she hurriedly collected them and was ready to leave, but before going, she muttered, "Thank you, Mr. Brown."
"See you later, Ms. Samriddhi."
"No," she said impatiently.
"Well, technically yes, because I'm your exclusive client and you will personally handle all the matters regarding this enterprise. Do you remember what your manager said? You have to take care of whatever we need, and for that, you have to visit here regularly for maintenance of company accounts." I smiled triumphantly.
She doesn't utter a word, takes a deep breath, and leaves.
After she left, Hannah called me, and we both talked about our next plan and decided to meet tonight for dinner.
She invited me to her place, and I'm on my way.
I'm in front of their door, and guess who opened the door for me?
"What are you doing here?" These are the only words that came out of her mouth when she saw me.
"Is that how you greet your guests?" I asked back.
Before she could react, Hannah came and let me in. "Hey!! You are here; I hope you didn't have trouble finding our address." Hannah asked.
"Not at all." I replied, and she is standing there at the door and trying to process all this.
"Good, have a seat." Hannah showed me the way.
"I think Ms. Samriddhi doesn't like my visit here." I tried to tease her.
She doesn't reply to me but shoots daggers with her eyes at Hannah. She left without saying anything.
"I know she is a hard nut to crack," Hannah said.
"Yeah, she is." I said while looking in her direction.
Hannah chuckled and replied, "Good luck."
I replied to her with a smile, then asked, "Where is she?"
"Let me check," she replied, then left. But after a few minutes, she came back alone.
"Is she mad?" I asked.
"Kind of. What happened between you two?" Hannah asked.
"Nothing. "
"Then what?"
I couldn't resist anymore and asked her, "Does she have a boyfriend?"
"Naah. I don't think so," Hannah replied. "But she definitely has an issue with men." She replied with a chuckle.
I only shook my head at her reply, and in the meantime, she finally showed up in the living room but headed towards the kitchen.
Hannah immediately runs behind her. God knows what she said to her; she started to arrange the dinner for us. All this time, she doesn't utter a single word. I tried to start a conversation.
"You have done a great job, Ms. Samriddhi," I said.
Without even looking at me, she replied, "It's part of my job, and I'm not obligated to talk to you about my work matters after my working hours." She left and took her food with her.
I closed my eyes and tried to control myself, then stood up and was ready to leave.
"Hey, at least complete your dinner." Hannah tried to stop me.
"I lost my appetite." I replied and stormed out of their apartment.
I was about to leave when Hannah knocked on my door and gestured for me to come out.
"You agreed to me that she is a hard nut to crack, right? Then what happened?"
"I don't know."
"Oh, come on..."
I told her, "All I want is to know her and talk to her. She seems to be a nice person, and I want to get to know her a little more. Is that too much to ask?"
"Yes, it is," someone said, and we both turned to see the source of the voice.
She is a middle-aged lady. She approached us, then Hannah greeted her, "Mrs. Kohli, when did you come back?"
"She is our landlady." Hannah informed me.
"Good evening, mam." I greeted her.
"Good evening, gentleman, and don't need to be so formal," she replied with a smile.
"Well, about whom are you two talking?" Mrs. Kohli asked.
"Your favorite," Hannah replied.
Then she checked me out from head to toe before leaving, said "Good luck," and left.
I frowned and left, but her behavior made me more curious. Hannah called Samriddhi, Mrs. Kohli's favorite, and she checked me out before leaving, and that 'Good luck' seems like approval.
Damn it, what the hell is going on? Shamelessly, the next day I went to her apartment again, and she gave me the same cold behavior.
Could you believe that? I, Henry Brown, am doing all of this just to get to know this girl. Who is becoming an interesting puzzle day by day?
It goes the same for a week, and within this week, Hannah is becoming like a little sister to me, and I started building a good understanding with Mrs. Kohli and Namrita.
We all hung out, and Samriddhi locked herself in her room. This time, I'm not going to back out; I'll get to know her.
Well, in the past week, I have known her a little. Yeah, I know I told you she didn't talk to me, and whenever I'm in her apartment, she locks herself in her room.
But the little things I get to know about her are making me mad to talk to her and to know her even more.
She is caring, loving, sophisticated, polite, and well mannered; she is cautious about everything, and she thinks before talking. In short, she is not real. Yeah, I know that's too much to say, but yes, I never saw a girl like her.
Or, in other words, she is an introvert but becomes an extrovert within 0.01 seconds if she feels comfortable around you.
She is always silent when I am around, but I have seen her talking and smiling nonstop, forgetting about everyone or everything, but whenever her eyes land on me, she runs away.
Why?
Many times it happened that she was having a good time with everyone, but after my arrival, she kept quiet and left.
One more important thing: Kal loved her. I take him with me, and he likes her company; she doesn't scare of him anymore; in fact, she talked to Kal and ignored me. Can you imagine that?
As per my new routine, I'm here in her apartment, and no one is here. Hannah is nowhere to find, and Samriddhi came out of her room in a pissed mood, and my presence worked as an ignition.
"Hannah is not here," she said.
"I'm not here for her."
"I know it's Hannah's place too, and she can invite anyone, but as you know, she is not here. I would like you to leave." I know she is suppressing her anger and is not in a good mood.
"I'm not going anywhere until you talk to me." still I tried my luck.
"Why do you want to waste your time? It's precious, so don't waste it on someone like me, and most importantly, I don't want to talk to you." She asked irritatingly.
"Why? Am I that bad, or do you think of me so low that you don't want to talk to me?" I lost my patience, seriously.
"Leave me alone." She tries to end our conversation, but no, not this time.
"No. Not until you talk to me. I'll be here every day until you talk to me normally and have a conversation with me." I was adamant as well.
She closed her eyes and tried to calm down, then continued, "Look, Mr. Brown. I'm already stressed out. Please don't make it worse for me, or you will not like my behavior. Honestly, I'm trying so hard not to blow off steam on you."
I smiled cheekily before replying, "I would love to see your every single side."
"Stop this nonsense." She warned
"No." I tried to play with fire.
"Huh......"
"I just want to talk to you." I cut her off.
"OK. If we talk, will you please stop bothering me and stop coming to my place?" She asked helplessly.
"It depends."
She seems dumbfounded for a second; seriously I love to tease her.
"Then no, I'm not going to talk to you." She replied while crossing her arms over her chest.
"OK, then get used to this." I replied with a wink.
"Stop it, just stop it." She screeched.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" I asked finally.
"It's none of your business," she replied boldly.
"Then what's the issue? If you don't have a super great boyfriend, and if you do, then that means he is dominant and doesn't allow you to talk to other men." here we go provoking her even more.
"Why does this matter?" She asked with frowning eyes.
"Oh! I thought you were an independent woman but didn't know that you were mousey and didn't do anything without your boyfriend's permission." Someone please kill me. What the hell am I saying or doing?
"Excuse me. Mind your own business, and I don't need anyone's permission, and I don't have a boy....." Sh stopped in the middle and continued, "Leave me alone."
Great, that's what I want to hear—she doesn't have a boyfriend.
"No. I told you I wouldn't until you talked to me."
"Fine. After that, leave me alone. Come on, shoot; tell me what you want to know about me." she asked frustratingly.
"What? Now! No, not now. You are not in the right state of mind; we are not going to talk now. We will talk tomorrow. Till then, cool down your nerves."I said that and left her apartment.
Now I can't wait for tomorrow. Finally, I will talk to her and get know her. I don't know why I am so excited? But I am.
