OPHELIA SOUTHERNS / VIPER / MADAME HYDRA

DESCRIPTION

Madame Hydra wasn't a name that many people knew. Even fewer people knew the name of the woman herself, Viper. And only a handful of people knew that she was not born Viper, nor did she ever choose that name for herself. No, Viper was born Ophelia Southerns, a woman engaged to marry Tony Stark before everything in their lives went wrong.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

- don't use that description, it sucks. Or use it as part of yours but please make it better.

- so your main character was born Ophelia Southerns. She was orphaned at a young age and sent to an orphanage. Gifted with all things technological and engineering, while at the orphanage she studied and worked hard and put herself through MIT with the assistance of scholarships and grants and such

- at MIT she met Tony Stark, who she fell hopelessly in love with and James Rhodes, who would become her best friend (apart from her partner, of course)

- the couple got together during school and then after graduation (at the lavish graduation party that Tony himself threw, in fact) he proposed to her and she, of course, accepted it

- they are still engaged when Ophelia flies to Vienna. Honestly, I couldn't think of a reason why so it's some kind of convention (engineering based, probably) or she's going to some other type of meeting. You probably don't have to go too into detail about this. But, while flying over the Alps, the plane is shot down

- despite many searches and a lot of money poured into it by Tony, nothing but scraps of the plane is ever found and Ophelia is presumed dead. Tony blames himself, of course, as she was his fiancee and he had enemies and it was a Stark plane that she was in

- and while he's partially right to blame himself, we'll get into that

- for now, though, Hydra beats everyone to the crash site since they're the ones who shot down the plane and they take Ophelia away

- it is revealed that the "mastermind" behind all of this was none other than a man named Ted Calloway, the Spymaster. He is an enemy/business rival of Tony's and he is also working with Hydra. He sold his soul to them so to speak to get his start. He chose Ophelia as a target for the Viper Program (roll credits) because he knew that it would hurt Tony

- after being healed completely of any injuries that may have arisen from the crash, Ophelia is placed in a house with eleven other women and told that if she ever wants out or to get back to Tony, she must be the last one standing

- desperate not only to see her beloved again but also to live, Ophelia kills until she is the last one standing (she doesn't kill all eleven, some of the others kill each other) and then she is taken out of the house and she thinks she is going to be let go, but she is only placed in another house with seven other women who did the same thing that she did. Once more, she must be the last one standing if she wants to see Tony again and once more, she manages to "win"

- after "winning" she is taken out of the house and she once more thinks that she is being let go to go home, but instead, she is taken to a facility where she is tortured and brainwashed into becoming a Winter Soldier. They tell her that her name is Viper and she starts going by the alias Madame Hydra on missions

- for years and years, Viper operates as Madame Hydra, taking names and kicking ass on behalf of Hydra (sometimes even working with Bucky, mayhaps?) under Spymaster/Ted Calloway. Again, he is a business rival and enemy of Tony's and I thought of this because I imagine as his enemy, it would give Ted a great amount of satisfaction to watch Tony break without Ophelia, all the while knowing exactly where she is, what's happened to her, what she's done since and knowing that he was the one who arranged the whole thing

- after the events of The Winter Soldier, the Avengers reassemble to get rid of Hydra once and for all and recover the Sceptre (amongst other important artifacts, probably) and they are on a mission in Paris chasing a single Hydra operative that has information on him that they need. Before they get the chance to kill him, they are blindsided by the sudden arrival of another Hydra asset who Tony almost catches before her mask is torn off (or her motorcycle helmet falls off as you requested her appearing on a motorcycle for this bit) and he sees her face, the face of Ophelia, he former fiancee

- Viper takes the chance to get away with her partner, not having recognized Tony at all

- when thinking of this scene, I imagined it happening around the Obelisk near the Louvre Gardens, if you know where that is? There's a big bridge and its a wide-open area and really pretty as well. I can send pictures and links and stuff if you don't and then you can decide for yourself.

- Steve is the one who puts together that Ophelia was turned into a winter soldier, like Bucky, given his knowledge from, well, The Winter Soldier. Tony is hurt, but determined to find her because he's never forgotten her and still loves her.

- Following the trail of that Hydra operative they were initially chasing (since he's easier to find and track), they come to find another base in Antwerp, Belgium. Infiltrating it, they find Viper and, because they were stealthy, get the drop on her and take her by surprise, capturing her.

- they also find her little red book (like the one of Bucky's that Zemo had)

- Tony and Steve interrogate Viper and maybe they even bring Rhodey in, too. Steve suggests that having familiar faces around will help break the brainwashing as that's how it happened with Bucky and that's all they've really got to go off of at the moment. Maybe they also bring some old pictures and things of hers to try and help jog her memory

- it is absolutely not quick and easy to bring her memories back, but there is one thing that happens (after the initial interrogation and photos and whatnot) that makes her non-lethal to them, curious and willing to stay

- basically, knowing that she's been kidnapped, Hydra sends an operative to take her out. Obviously, she doesn't die then, but that's because when the undercover agent pulls a gun, Tony jumps in front of it and stops the bullet (he's not wearing the suit, I must point out). After he goes down, Viper just instinctually takes out her would-be assassin and then drops down next to Tony

- he's not hurt very badly, he was just shot in the shoulder and it's not even a through and through, but he's bleeding and jumped in front of a bullet for her and this is causing her to panic because people aren't supposed to do that for her. She's disposable. And even if she's technically not, that's what they always told her

- she calls for help, and it comes. She is held back and while she doesn't struggle while they take Tony away, it's very clear that she is distressed at the sight of him and what just happened

- if you choose to close a chapter with this, I think the "last shot" should be her gaze turning to the photos on the table, specifically one of them at their engagement party

- they put her in a cell for her protection and theirs and she doesn't fight this. Tony heals and goes to visit her and they talk. But as soon as he's fully healed, she escapes without being seen, showing them that she could have left at any time and just chose not to

- for a while (encompassing AoU) she is on her own, piecing her past together and going after Ted Calloway. She kills him, wipes herself from Hydra history and takes out the last few Hydra agents that knew about her, as not many people did. She succeeds in doing this and she is out and about in a foreign city, not really aware of how much time has passed when she catches a glimpse of a news broadcast and sees Sokovia

- she rushes back to New York and sneaks into the Tower, where she confronts Tony and is kind of forcibly checking that he's okay. He manages to convince her to stay and since she's (like 99.9%) certain that she's gotten rid of any traces of her time as Madame Hydra and those who would come after her and possibly accidentally hurt Tony again, she agrees

- for the next year, she stays with Tony, relearning her own past, falling in love with Tony all over again. Until Civil War, that is.

- Zemo manages to activate her just after he activates Bucky and she also goes on a bit of a rampage until Tony manages to knock her out and deactivate her, so to speak. Cognitive recalibration and all that jazz. She's actually really torn up about this because she hurt (and possibly killed) people and she didn't think this was even possibly anymore, that she was better, that this was over.

- if you want Viper/Ophelia to be in on the airport fight, she can be and is o, but I can equally see her wanting no part of it, since she doesn't want to hurt anyone ever again and is still really torn up about Zemo activating her

- and it is also for this reason that after Civil War, she retires with Tony back to the Tower or the compound or wherever. Well, "retire"

- she is brought back out into the public eye after Civil War. They tell the press and public that she was kidnapped and held hostage by Hydra and enemies of Tony's since her plane was shot down way back when.

- then, at the Homecoming press conference, Tony proposes to her again, and she accepts

- the following two years (as HC takes place in Oct. 2016) follow a somewhat tumultuous engagement as the planning of a wedding is what they were doing before she was kidnapped by Hydra and so it kinda triggers her PTSD so it takes a long time and why they're not married at the beginning of Infinity War

- which, speaking of. Infinity War should happen pretty much the same, except that they will be separated as she has no way of flying up to the Q ship

- in the two weeks after The Snap, she has multiple PTSD-fueled breakdowns before Tony comes back to Earth. She will stay with him while he's recovering instead of going after Thanos with the others.

- as soon as Tony is all better, they get married and then move to the farmhouse and have their daughter, who you can name whatever you like. Though, my two cents would be to name her Ophelia since even though Viper was born Ophelia Southerns and the world knows her as that and that's the name she married Tony as, the brainwashing that made her believe that her name was Viper is pretty deep-rooted and they made her forget her birth name so what her name actually is, is actually a bit of a debate for all parties involved

- You can have her involved in the Time Travel Debacle, but she would go with Tony and then stay with Scott while Tony and Steve go back even further and then they'd all go back together

- Final battle, Tony dies (if that's how you have it planned in your series), funeral, Viper hurts a whole fucking lot. The End!

- oh and she's afraid of planes ever since hers went down
