Chapter 11

It's 5 days later. Hyunmi and Jungkook have not made contact with each other. Hyunmi has barely been speaking lately, sometimes answering yes or no questions. Jungkook has not been in school for the past few days.

It's lunch time. Hyesu is not in school today and Hyunmi doesn't know where Jongyul is so she could walk him to his class. As the hallways become empty, Hyunmi is left alone and sighs as she shuts her locker. Just as she is about to turn around but freezes.

Hanyong: Hey dollface~

She slowly turns around and looks at him. He pouts.

Hanyong: You haven't been speaking these past few days. Jungkook hasn't been here so there's nothing bothering you so wae aren't you speaking?

Hyunmi: ...

Hanyong: At least say something other than ne or anya.

Hyunmi: You must be joking if you're saying there's nothing bothering me. If nothing was bothering me, I wouldn't be the way that I am right now.

Hanyong: I'm here if you want to talk about it

Hyunmi: It's fine..don't worry about it.

Just as she's about to walk away she stops in place.

Hanyong: Awow..you actually didn't say anything mean to me..or tell me to go away..are you sure you don't want to talk about it? Clearly something is really up and don't you realize that I care about you?

She turns around and faces him.

Hyunmi: I know..but Hanyong, this is something that no one can help me with.

Hanyong: ...Does it have anything to do with Jungkook?

Hyunmi: ..Anya

Hanyong: Don't lie

Hyunmi: ...Partially

Hanyong: Do you want me to piece him up for you? Because I will gladly do so.

Hyunmi: Aniyo, nothing of that sort, Hanyong. Really, just don't worry about it. It's okay.

Hanyong: Clearly it's not okay. I really don't like seeing you like this, although you're being nice to me, it's not for the right reason. I don't know why you keep yourself so worked up on Jungkook. He's an idol just like you told me. He doesn't actually care about you. All he cares about is graduating so he can just focus on what he actually has to do. Unlike him, I actually care about you. Stop wasting your time on him, because either way when he's out of this place, he's going to forget all about you.

Hyunmi for the past few days has been an emotional wreck. So this situation just isn't helping. A few tears are rolling down her cheeks as her voice breaks as she speaks.

Hyunmi: I never said that the whole reason I am the way I am right now is all because of him. You can bash on me all you want but, leave him out of this. He doesn't deserve it, really. He's a good guy. You wanna know why I'd choose Jungkook over you? It's because he's nothing like you. You need to stop assuming things when you don't know the facts because Jungkook is literally like 5% of the reason I am the way I am these past few days. Goodbye Hanyong.

Quickly she turns around and walks away. She goes in a random hallway, leans against the wall as her bum drop to the ground. She lays her head back as she looks up at the ceiling as her tears continue to roll down her face.

She stays there for a little while before wiping her tears away, getting up and walking back to her locker. She gets her purse and goes to the nurse's to get an early release. She does so and walks to the lobby, handing the lady at the front her pass and is walking out just Jungkook is coming in. She doesn't notice that it's Jungkook because she's looking down but Jungkook did take note that it's Hyunmi leaving.

Jungkook stops and turns around as he watches her walk away with his eyebrows knitted together. He saw her puffy red face. He quickly greets the lady at the front and starts running down the hallway. He pulls out his phone calling Jongyul.

Jongyul: ...Jungkook, I'm in class.

Jungkook: And you answered

Jongyul: Are you running?

Jungkook: I just came as Hyunmi was leaving.

Jongyul: What!? She left? She's my ride!

Teacher: "Jongyul, are you on your phone?"

Jungkook: Meet me at Hyunmi's locker

Jongyul: Aniyo! I'm not on my phone–Alright I'll meet you there.

Teacher: "Then how come you have–"

Jungkook hangs up and continues running until he gets to her locker. He looks around while he's catching his breath and sees Jongyul running over to him.

Jongyul: What happened?

Jungkook: Mimi..do you know what happened?

Jongyul: What do you mean? I didn't even know that she left!

Jungkook: She must have been crying before she left

Jongyul: ..What?

Jungkook: I-I don't know but her face was all puffy and red

Jongyul: ..What could she have been crying over?

Jungkook: I don't–

Hanyong: You know, I really don't like you.

Jongyul and Jungkook stay looking at each other for a bit then turn towards Hanyong who looks pissed.

Hanyong: You don't deserve her

Jongyul: What are you talking–

Hanyong: Shut up, Jongyul!! This has nothing to do with you.

Jongyul: Well excuuuse you!

Jungkook: What are you even talking about?

Hanyong: Don't play dumb. You damn well know I'm talking about Hyunmi.

Jongyul and Jungkook sigh.

Jongyul: When will you leave her alone?

Hanyong: Jongyul, shut up! Jungkook..I don't like how you're making her feel. She's different now. She's more quiet, barely talking. I'm surprised that I got her to speak but what did you do to her that made her be the way she is?

Jungkook: I didn't do any–

Jongyul: You got her to speak? You do know she left right? When did you speak to her?

Hanyong: Like 5 minutes after the bell rung at the beginning of this period

Jungkook and Jongyul look at each other then looking around to see if anyone is around. Jongyul grabs Hanyong by the collar of his shirt, lifting him and shoving him into the lockers. He holds him there as Jungkook looks around again then looks at Hanyong.

Jongyul: What did you say to her?

Hanyong: None of your business

Jongyul shoves him again but a bit harsher.

Jongyul: I'll ask again, what did you say to her?

Hanyong: IT DOESN'T MATTER

Jungkook: IF IT DIDN'T MATTER WE WOULDN'T BE MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL OUT OF THIS NOW WOULD WE? HYUNMI BASICALLY LEFT IN TEARS. NOW WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? WHAT DID YOU SAY TO HER?

Hanyong: ..What? She..She left in tears?

Jongyul: Aish..

Jongyul shoves him into the lockers again then just lets go before walking away with Jungkook.

Jongyul: He is no help, let's go.

Jungkook: Where are we going?

Jongyul: For now, just go to lunch. I'm going back to my class. After the school day ends, we'll have Jihwan drop us off at Hyesu's house. We'll see from there.

~

Hyunmi didn't go to school the next day. Today's Saturday, the day of the extravagant birthday party. Hyunmi is already in her dress for the day part of the party, she's currently getting her hair done. Hyesu is with her.

Hyesu: So let me get this straight..it's technically two parties.

Hyunmi: Technically, yeah. With this dress I'll be attending the one with just his family which is apparently still huge but either way. We're the only ones invited that aren't actual family members because I'm going to be meeting my apparent future husband. Then I must get dressed into the other dress for the party later at night which will involve all his friends, family friends and family which will be an even much bigger party.

Hyunmi sighs as she looks down.

Hyunmi: Is it bad that I have my fingers crossed that whoever this guy is will not be interested?

Hyesu: When has a guy met you and not been interested in you at least one time?

Hyunmi: Jongyul

Hyesu: That's different

Hyunmi laughs with Hyesu but then sighs knowing she's right.

Hyunmi: I guess I'll be getting married then..

Hyesu: It's crazy..

Hyunmi: It is..

Hyesu: You wouldn't be getting married straight away, right?

Hyunmi: In a year..

~

Hyunmi's Dad: Mr. Yun, pleasure to see you again.

Mr. Yun: Please, call me Seungbo. Pleasure to see you again, too. You too, Madame.

Mr. Yun shakes hands with Hyunmi's father and kisses her mother's hand.

Mr. Yun: My wife is currently speaking to a few other of the guests but this is my son, Seunghae.

Seunghae smiles as he does the same as his father did.

Seunghae: Nice to meet you Sir, Madame.

Hyunmi's Dad: Well-mannered. That's good. Happy birthday, Seunghae.

Hyunmi's Mom: Happy birthday, Seunghae. We placed our gift for you over at the table with the rest of the gifts.

Seunghae: There was no need for that but thank you

Mr. Yun: Was your daughter not able to make it?

Hyunmi's parents smile as they turn to face one of the huge staircases. All the talking from everyone began to fade as they all were mesmerized by the one at the top of the staircase, Hyunmi. Everyone staring is something she's used to but something about this makes her feel very nervous but she hides that. She walks down the stairs and everyone moves aside, making a path for her to walk. She makes her way over to where her parents are and smiles.

Hyunmi: I apologize for taking so long

Hyunmi's Dad: Don't worry, sweetie. This is Mr. Yun and his son, Yun Seung Hae. This is the birthday boy and who will be your future husband, that is if he's interested.

They all look at Seunghae and he seem to be speechless.

Hyunmi: Happy birthday

His father clears his throat causing Seunghae to blink a few times before extending his hand to her.

Seunghae: Hello..

Hyunmi takes his hand and he pulls her hand to his lips, planting a kiss on her hand as he looked at her in her eyes. Hyunmi slowly looks down as her smile just forms into a small one. He lets go of her hand and Hyunmi looks back up with a smile, bowing towards his father.

Hyunmi: Hello Sir, I'm Kim Hyun Mi.

He bowed as she did it with a smile.

Mr. Yun: Hello Hyunmi. Your parents weren't kidding when they said that you looked just like a doll.

Hyunmi fake laughs, they don't know it's fake though.

Hyunmi: I guess they don't call me a Barbie for nothing

~

It's been an hour in and Hyunmi has been left alone with Seunghae. There's just an awkward silence between them until he speaks up.

Seunghae: You're not interested in all this, are you?

Hyunmi: If I had to be honest, I'm not. If you accept, we'll be wedded next year. I never imagined to be getting married at a pretty young age. I always imagined getting married like at 27-30 years old.

Seunghae: To be honest, I never imagined getting married this earlier either.

Hyunmi: Really?

Seunghae: Yeah..even my pals are in shock. One even joked around saying that whoever I'm going to marry is just in it for the money and nothing else. Actually, he was suppose to be here too..but I don't see him anywhere. He said it only because we were watching a movie in which that happened and then at the end his wife robbed him.

Hyunmi: Damn, gold diggers. They're worse these days too.

Seunghae: You aren't one of them?

Hyunmi: I can assure you I'm not. I don't really care about money like that. For me what's more expensive and more important is love and trust.

Seunghae: That's good, I think that too. You'd probably think I'm some type of jerk being the heir of my father's company and a wealthy family..but I wish I didn't have to deal with any of this. I've never lived a normal life of others in my age group. You, at least you get to go to school and hang out with friends. I'm forced to be homeschooled, always being trained to take over my father's company when the time comes and work for him. It's so tiring, I wish I could live life the way you do.

Hyunmi: Well, I must say, it is a bit more freeing than by the way your life sounds but it's not great either as what it seems like. The fact that my parents are barely home is the only reason I get to go out. When they leave, they don't know that the staff aren't there with me. The only reason I go to school is because I made a deal with them that if I get to go to school like others in my age group do, then I will go on one of their business trips with them to see how they work.

Seunghae: If only we got to have more freedom..

Hyunmi: Think the way I do, eventually you'll have your own freedom.

Seunghae: Sure but we'll still be following in our parents footsteps..

Hyunmi: That's true..but at least we have more freedom.

~

It's night. Seunghae is sat alone as he watches everyone. Some are on the dance floor, others are conversing at their tables. He senses someone sitting down next to him, he looks to his side and smiles as he sees his pal.

Jungkook: Sorry I couldn't make it to your other party. I was in a meeting that took longer than what I had thought. By the way, you've got paparazzi right outside.

Seunghae: Huh, I wonder why.

The two boys laugh as they both look around.

Jungkook: This is quite the party. Happy birthday.

Seunghae: Thank you and yeah, it's quite the party.

Jungkook: So you met her?

Seunghae: Who?

Jungkook: Your future wife?

Seunghae: Yeah, she's quite the beauty and seems to be a very lovely person. I'm interested but I don't think I want to get married next year.

Jungkook: You want to get married this year!? But it's over in two months.

Seunghae: Anya!! We're all the same age, put yourself in my position. Are you ready to get married at this age?

Jungkook: Ani

Seunghae: See? Even she says that too.

Jungkook: Is she not interested?

Seunghae: Well, I didn't ask her that..

Jungkook: Do you have to make a decision by tonight?

Seunghae: Anya, I have 3 days to make up my mind.

Jungkook: Is she here or did she head home after the last party?

Seunghae: She was with me but had gotten up to get some punch.

Jungkook: So she ditched you?

Seunghae: Aish, just shut up.

They both start laughing.

Seunghae: She's good person to have a conversation with. She's not one of those who can't keep a conversation going.

Jungkook: That's good, do you have a picture with her?

Seunghae: My father made us. He personally even took the picture of the both us.

Seunghae pulls out his phone, going onto his camera roll. Jungkook is still looking around and something catches his eyes. Someone going up the stairs.

Jungkook: Who's that?

Seunghae looks up and smiles.

Seunghae: That's her

Jungkook looks down at Seunghae's phone to see a picture of Seunghae with Hyunmi. His eyes widen as he looks up toward the one walking up the stairs. She turns around and he sees that it's Hyunmi wearing a beautiful dress.

Seunghae looks back and forth towards Hyunmi and Jungkook.

Seunghae: Do you know her?

Jungkook: Do you remember that girl that I have been talking about lately?

Seunghae: Yeah..?

Jungkook: That's her..I'll be right back.

Jungkook's eyes stay on Hyunmi as he makes his way over to her. Hyunmi is walking around and she walks onto a huge balcony. She walks over to the end and stares out at the night sky, taking a deep breath of the fresh air.

Jungkook: You look beautiful..

Hyunmi looks behind her to see Jungkook. She turns back.

Hyunmi: You're here?

Jungkook: The birthday boy happens to be one of my best friends

Hyunmi: Seunghae..?

Jungkook: Yeah..so now I know who you're possibly going to marry..

Hyunmi: ...

Jungkook: I got to see a picture of your dress from earlier. When you told me extravagant dresses, I was expecting like a full princess dress.

Hyunmi: Tuh, you should have seen the others then. You don't know how much convincing it took to be able to wear these two dresses.

Jungkook: Are you okay, Mimi?

Hyunmi: I'm fine..

Jungkook: Why did you leave on Thursday? You didn't come yesterday, are you sure you're fine?

Hyunmi: I'm breathing aren't I?

Jungkook: Hyunmi..

Hyunmi: Stop Hyunmi-ing me.

Jungkook: What happened Thursday?

Hyunmi: Don't worry about it

Jungkook: What did Hanyong say to you?

Hyunmi stays quiet as she thinks about whether she should tell him or not.

Hyunmi: I'll tell you but after I do, I'm walking away and don't chase after me. We'll both end up hanging out with Seunghae here when we get back but if when that happens, don't ask to speak to me privately.

Jungkook: Why?

Hyunmi explains to him what happened and after she does, she did exactly what she said she would. She walked away, leaving Jungkook behind in silence. He's sad indeed but just not showing it. He looks down before looking up at the night sky with a sigh as he gets lost in his own thoughts, trying to digest all this new information and what to do now.
