Chapter 11

Words: 1039

It's been almost a week since we got back from camp and the day after we got back, Zach started acting really weird. He keeps avoiding me. I can't help but feel as if I've done something wrong. Today me and my mom were going out. I don't really get to hang out with her much, so whenever I got the chance I took it. First we're going to the mall, then lunch, then a movie, and later we'd meet up with Zach and his family to play laser tag. I wasn't too excited about hanging out with him later, though. I quickly got dressed into a black adidas cropped hoodie and some white ripped jeans with pink converse and a pink baseball cap. I put on a silver anchor necklace, that my dad got me when he was still alive, and a silver leaf ring, that my mom had given me for my twelfth birthday. She has one exactly like mine. I then heard knocking on my door.

"Winter! Come on! Let's head on out!" I playfully rolled my eyes as I finished putting my hair into a ponytail with a braid on one side of my head. I didn't bother putting makeup on, so I ran downstairs to meet my mom.

"Are you ready, Butterfly?" I nodded, grabbing my small black book bag and put it around my shoulders. I walked out to my mom's black Honda and opened the passenger door then sat down. I watched as she walked out the front door and locked it. She headed towards the driver side and opened the door. After the thirty minute drive to the mall, she turns the car off and gets out. I unbuckle and get out, making sure to grab my bag as well. We both walked inside and started looking around. We went into different stores like Forever 21, Victoria Secret, and an older store called Roses. I've loved this store for as long as I can remember. Whenever my cousins outgrew their clothes from this store, the gave them to me. Of course I only wore princess costumes back then, but now I've kinda moved on to more tomboyish outfits. I guess I just grew up. We looked around in Roses and I saw this beautiful rose dress. The main color was black with big roses plastered in different places. I picked it up and walked over to the dressing room. I saw a sign on the door that said, 'Only two or less items' I looked at what I had and only saw some bleached ripped jeans and the rose dress. I shrugged my shoulders and walked in. I first tried on the jeans, which fit me perfectly, then I tried on the dress. I was cautious at first, then slowly slipped the dress over my head. It didn't hug my body, which I was thankful for. I looked in the mirror and froze at the sight. I looked...not..terrible. I actually really liked the way this dress looked on me. I heard a knock on the door next to the room I was in and jumped.

"Ashley! Are you almost done?" I heard an all too familiar voice. I quickly stepped out of the door and saw a face that I never thought I'd see again.

"Corbyn?" He turned to look at me and immediately a smile found it's way onto his pale face.

"Winter!" he pulled me into a hug and I tightly wrapped my arms around him.

"Butterfly, I've missed you," he whispered into my ear.

"I've missed you too, Bean," I pulled away.

"It's been awhile...how've you been?" He nodded.

"Pretty good! My music career is finally moving forward!" he looked at me with a spark in his eyes.

"I can't wait to see what the future holds," I rested my hand on his cheek and smiled.

"Oh by the way, I'm going to LA with a bunch of guys that I've met and we're going to hang out," I smiled, happy for him.

"I always knew that you'd go places with your talent,"

"Don't give up on that," he smiled and shook his head.

"I won't," I pulled him in for another hug. Someone then called his name. I turned and saw his mother, Saskia. I ran over to her and hugged her. We talked for a few minutes, before they had to leave. I waved goodbye then walked back to the dressing room. I changed back into my regular clothes, then went to go find my mom. After I'd found my mother and paid for my things we just started walking to find the food court. I could feel her eyes on me so I turned to see her staring at me.

"What?" I said with a little humor in my voice. She just shook her head and looked forward.

"How are you and Zach?" She asked, my mood suddenly changing. I looked to the floor as my smile faded.

"I don't know,"

"Ever since the day after we got back from camp, he's stopped talking to me. Tries to avoid me," I took a deep breath.

"I don't know what I did wrong," I closed my eyes as a single tear fell down my cheek. My breath hitched in my throat as more tears fell every time I thought about losing Zach. My mom grabbed my shoulders and gently pulled me in for a hug. I loved her hugs, but they could never compare to Zach's. I just wish I could hug him again. I continued to cry silently into her shoulder. She gently rubbed my hair, occasionally comforting me with quiet words.

"It's ok, my butterfly," I let go and rubbed my eyes dry.

"Let's continue, shall we," I whispered. As we started walking again, I wiped my still flowing tears.

'I just want to know what I did to make him stop talking to me. Was it something I said? Was it the fact that we kissed? Was it because I got mad at him? Was it because he made new friends, that he doesn't need me anymore? I just wish that I knew what made him leave me'.
