Chapter 34
Simon's PoV:
I woke up in the position where I fell asleep, pretty much spooning Danielle. She was breathing lightly, and she was warm and comfortable to lay with. I couldn't bring myself to leave. I twisted my body to face the other way and I grabbed my phone and slid the screen up to get to the camera.
I twisted back around and put my arm back over Danielle so we were both in the camera. I grinned and took the picture but it was on loud, so I heard the click of the camera, and so did Danielle.
"S-Simon?" She croaked, yawning, I locked my phone.
"Mm?" I tried not to smile.
"Did you just take a picture of me?" She laughed with her hands over her face. I chuckled.
"Technically I took a picture of us so it's not the same, it's not as creepy, you see." I rested my head on her shoulder.
"Oh I see." She laughed at me.
"Come on, I'm putting something on my snapchat story." I told her, sitting up.
"Great, now I'm cold. Thanks Simon." She groaned up and curled into a ball. I laughed and held my arm out.
"Come on, loser." I rolled my eyes smiling, while Dani got up and cuddled back into me.
"Why is it like minus thirty degrees in my apartment, this isn't fair." She complained.
"This is why we spend more than half our lives in my house." I joked. "Smile!" I said to Danielle holding up my phone again. She grinned into the camera and I added it to my snapchat story. "Besides, why don't you just get someone in to fix your heater?"
"Because I don't have a job yet, and I'm already broke, I don't want to have to pay any more money on this god awful apartment." She laughed.
"Well why don't you move into my house?" I suggested sincerely. She snapped her head at me and her eyes went wide, I laughed and took another snap chat photo, adding it to my story.
"Are you being serious?" She laughed but then went back to her confused state.
"Yeah I am, you always stay at ours anyway, we can just make the spare room yours." I smiled, and her face lighted up. She screamed.
"SIMON, I LOVE YOU." She exclaimed, with her hands up in the air.
"I know, I know." I laughed getting the camera ready for the perfect moment. She laughed again, grabbed my face and kissed my cheek. Of course I took the picture and added it to my snapchat story.
"Thank you Simon, it means a lot." Danielle smiled sweetly. I grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "Anytime."
"Well I'll have to ask the guys but I'm sure they'll say yes anyway, and Josh will be happy so..." I explained, nodding my head slowly.
"Okay that's fine, I should probably start packing but I really can't be bothered yet so I'm just gonna stay here for a while." She said resting her head back on my shoulder, closing her eyes.
"Do you want me to hire a moving van or something?" I suggested, trying to make things easier for her.
"No I don't have that much stuff, it should only take up a couple of suitcases. I can move in tomorrow if it's okay with all of you."
"You wanna move in on your birthday? That sucks." I grinned.
"You remembered?!" Danielle cheered.
"Of course I remembered you idiot, you're my best friend. Also it's 7 days before the day we first met. And to top it all of I've gotten you the best present ever." I kissed the top of her head.
"I can't believe you remember all of that, that's so sweet." She said as she hugged me closer, I chuckled and looked at my phone. 10:00am.
"Hey, are you doing anything today?" I asked quickly, locking my phone and placing it down again.
"No, Justin's with his friends. Why?" She looked up at me.
"Because I'm not seeing Lucy and today might be the only day for a while we get bestie time together, that's if everything goes to plan tomorrow." I grinned.
"Okay, then let's do something. What are we gonna do?" She asked enthusiastically. I looked around her bedroom and thought of the time she moved in, we had painted the walls blue especially and we hung up all of our favourite pictures as if we were moving in together.
"Oh, I've already got that planned."

Danielle's PoV:
It's now 10:30am and I just had a shower, Simon left my apartment to go get some clothes and then he's coming back and taking me out for the day, except I have no idea where, but I'm definitely excited.
Wrapped in my towel, I brushed my hair and ringed it out, looking through my wardrobe. How am I to know what to wear if I don't know what I'm doing? I decided to go casual by wearing a higher waisted black skater skirt and a baggy, burgundy cropped sweater since it wasn't too cold outside and it wasn't too warm.
I picked out the outfit and placed it on my bed, but I forgot my phone in the bathroom so I went out of my bedroom to get there but unfortunately Simon was already here, now looking at me in my towel.
I squealed and ran into the bathroom. "Simon!" I grunted, blushing.
"Ergh, sorry! I didn't know that you'd be, you know not ready- I'll just wait in the kitchen!" He said loudly, I heard footsteps passing and I relaxed, opening the door to make my way back to the bedroom.
I locked the door and began to get ready, also grabbing a bag and filling it up with the things I might want during the day, also putting my phone in it. I started drying my hair and was done in about 15 minutes. I grabbed my black beanie and positioned it on my head and when I felt comfortable with how I looked I unlocked the door and went into the bathroom to clean my teeth. When I finished and walked out of the bathroom I was met with Simon who was grinning.
"You look good, now let's go." He smiled. I sighed and laughed. I ran into the bedroom and grabbed my bag, meeting Simon in the hallway. He raised his arm and I linked mine with his, with my bag on the other. "You ready for breakfast?"
"Who do you think I am?" I replied making him laugh. We walked down to his car and we began the drive, blasting the music and singing along.
We pulled in at McDonalds and I laughed. "This is my surprise bestie birthday breakfast? McDonalds? I LOVE IT!" I grinned. "Can I have an e-"
"Egg and bacon mcmuffin with a hash brown and milk, I know." Simon interrupted me and winked. He left the car and jogged into the building. That's friendship.
I waiting for a good ten minutes before Simon got back into the car with my breakfast, I had insisted on paying but Simon refused to let me pay for my bestie birthday breakfast. The next stop of the day was the park we met at previously, where we used to go when we were kids.
"So why are we here?" I smiled getting out of the car with my McDonald's inside my bag.
"To eat McDonald's and chill duhh. Let's go to the river." He said grabbing my hand and dragging me along.
"I'm sorry if you find it weird being back here." He sighed, looking down. I looked up at him questioningly.
"Why would i find it weird?" I asked, holding his one arm with both of mine.
"Because of the last time we were here, in the river..." He trailed off. I nodded and squeezed his hand.
"Simon, I've thought that moment over in my head probably more than a hundred times and you know what? I don't regret it, I really don't." I sighed. He looked down at me, confused and maybe even a bit relieved. "If I could go back to any moment of that day i wouldn't have changed it."
"But why? I kissed you Danielle." He said stopping at the edge of the river and lying down. I followed him down so we were both looking up at the cloudless sky.
"Well, maybe I enjoyed it. Ever thought of that?" I smiled nicely.
"Why-"
"I don't know why Simon, maybe because it was my first proper kiss and it was with someone who I really care about and it just meant something to me." I said in one small breath, quickly and impatient.
"Oh.. So you were glad I kissed you?" He asked, to make sure, turning his head towards mine.
"I think I was, yes." I reassured him, squeezing his hand. "Care to explain how you feel about it?"
"I-I feel like it's right." He explained. "I feel like if it wasn't right, then we wouldn't be in this situations so frequently." He continued using numerous hand gestures.
"What are you suggesting?" I asked interested.
"Well, Danielle, everything happens for a reason, maybe there's a reason this happens to us." He breathed.
"When did everything become so complicated?" I sighed, closing my eyes, focusing my hearing on the flow of the river and the tweeting of the birds.
"We're way passed complicated now." Simon chuckled and i nodded.
I sat up and looked past the river to the field beyond, it was filled with high green grass which was cut into small paths to walk between. "Do you remember when we were younger, and we played hide and seek in the fields, but I actually got lost myself and you cried until you found me." I chuckled.
"We were young okay, I thought you'd been kidnapped or something.." Simon protested, sitting up with me, his legs spread out in a V shape.
"Yeah I know, you didn't let go of my hand for the rest of the day." I grinned, shuffling over between Simons legs and I leaned back so I was laying on his chest. He put his arms around my front like he was hugging a teddy bear. "Pretty much explains our friendship." I smirked.
"Says the person who didn't want me to let go of her last night." Simon laughed joyfully.
"Oh wow." I grinned and shushed him, I took a deep breath and looked to the water of the river, a deep blue colour with shimmers of white waves on the surface, also showing the small reflection of the field beyond.
Simon and I continued reminiscing about the old times we shared here, where I had picnics with him and my parents, and when our families all joined for a friendly day out, where I had first met his brothers and become close with them as if they were my own. Our parents became good friends too, which is mainly why Simon's parents had become like my second ones.
Some of the memories we had made here had been the best moments of my life and I can't think of a happier time - and Simon knows that too. That's why when I had a panic attack at the hospital when I thought I was going to lose josh, Simon talked about this. He knows the parts of my life which I hate and I love because he was there with me for all of them. My bad moments, were pretty much his bad moments and I guess that's why we're as close as we are now; we pretty much grew up holding hands.
As we kept talking, the time went quicker, and it was already 3:00pm. That was when Simon thought it would be suitable to go to our next unknown destination. We packed up our stuff (putting our McDonald's in the bin on our way out) and hopped back into his car. The drive was longer this time, maybe about half an hour longer. Eventually however, we made it, and as soon as we turned into the car park I knew where we was.
"You took me to our old school?" I laughed, looking at the red-brown building in front of us and seeing how much it had changed. It had gotten smaller somehow, but I'm pretty sure that was just in my mind. It seemed much older, as they clearly hadn't updated much, but that just made me feel more comfortable. The building was a small church-like building, a horizontal and a vertical rectangle attached to each other, with a large blue door with our school emblem on - a bird of some sort, a dove I believe.
"Yeah, I did." He sounded proud, as he opened his door confidently and ran to my side to open mine. I stepped out, still staring mesmerised at the building I used to call my hell, but only when I escaped did I realise how un-hell like it was.
Simon picked up my hand and began walking to the back of the building where I saw the old school playground, painted with hopscotch games and snakes and ladders. Over that was a bank, leading up to our school field which was about half the size of a football pitch - pretty big.
He lead me to the back double doors, one of which was open (probably because school had finished a couple of hours ago and they hadn't shut it yet.) "Simon, we can't just barge in." I laughed, pulling back slightly. He looked at me and smiled.
"Don't worry, I called in." He sounded obvious. I stared at him, perplexed and unconvinced. He however, just sighed happily and took me around the corner to the outside of our grade 2 room. "This," he stopped walking and faced me. "Is where we first met, in grade 2."
I looked around, grinning and I realised not much had changed here either, other than the different names on the bag pegs. "It honestly feels like I'm ten again, it's amazing." I turned back to face Simon but he was gone. Confused, I walked to the middle of the coat room. "Simon?" I called, but there was no response for a few seconds until the grade 2 door opened and Simon came out.
"Um, are you okay?" He asked, looking in my direction. I laughed at him, as he tried to recreate the first moment I had with him. I looked to my left, where if it was all of those years ago I would've seen my dad, but now I saw nothing. I sighed, sadly smiling. "He's here, I promise." Simon smiled, walking up to me and hugging me. "Come on, let's go outside."
He put his arm around me and walked me up the bank and onto the field, where he took me to a large tree that lived in the centre. We sat down against the trunk and I rested my head on Simon's shoulder. "I wish I could see them again." I admitted, closing my eyes slightly.
"Me too, they were amazing people." He said thoughtfully. I felt my eyes watering but I blinked furiously to keep the from coming, succeeding in this, I took a deep breath.
"I know." I smiled, Simon really cared. "I can't believe, we're here. I haven't been her in more than ten years, i feel old." I laughed.
"Nah, we've still got twenty years until we count as old, I think you're okay." He grinned. "Look Danielle, I know it's only four in the afternoon and it's not your birthday yet, but I'd like to give you your present now, if you'd let me." He dug through his bag and got out a rectangular shaped object, maybe a box of some sort.
"I'm totally fine with that." I chuckled, taking the present from his hand. I looked at him a last time waiting for some sort of signal to say I could open it. He nodded quickly and I ripped into the package to reveal a plain, silver box with no company name or anything. I assumed it was jewellery but it didn't look like it would be. I slowly and carefully opened the box and saw two pieces of stripped card, which were covered in squared lettering. Looking closer, I realised they were tickets - tickets to America.
My mouth fell open and my breathing began to speed up. "W-We're going to A-America?" I shouted, and Simon smiled and laughed.
"Yep, I've invited the sidemen so they're going to buy their tickets, but yours is already paid for. I even invited Justin and Lucy." He grinned.
"I can't believe it, you actually did this for me." I looked at him, my eyes wide and my face adoring.
"I'd do anything for you, stupid." He laughed quietly.
I couldn't believe it, in a couple of days I'll be going to America, for the first time since I was 9 years old.
I was going to America.
