~ 7 ~
Sunhee stood at the entrance of the house, about to dial the number for a cab.
"Hey there."
She looked up, smiling when she saw Kevin. "Hi," she said, starting to dial the number again. But suddenly she remembered her drawing and gasped, holding onto his arm.
He looked down at her in concern. "Are you alright...?"
"I'm fine!" she said, handing the flower drawing over to him. "Look! Didn't I do well?"
Kevin laughed, nodding. He looked a little proud. "See, I told you that you wouldn't mess it up, didn't I? And you didn't believe me," he teased, shaking his head at her.
"Hold on... can I borrow your pencil? Or even better, do you have a pen or marker?"
He nodded, taking his book bag off of his back and looking through it until he came up with a black sharpie. She smiled, taking it from him and handing him her phone.
"Hold this for a second, please?" she asked, not waiting for an answer as she pressed her flower picture against the wall for support, then signed her name at the bottom. Then she took her phone back and gave him the party scene drawing. "Sign your name in marker," she said, handing the sharpie back to him too. "This won't be worth much if your famous signature fades away," she told him.
He took the paper and sharpie, and turned her around, placing the paper on her back and signing his name again. It tickled, but she didn't move until he turned her around again.
"You could have used the wall, you know," she said, taking the drawing back from him.
"But you were closer than the wall."
Sunhee sighed, unable to argue with that. Then she smiled, holding out the flower picture to him. "Here. For you. My first decent drawing, that's not even really mine. It has my signature too... so watch out. We can be artist competitors."
He laughed, "one drawing and you're an artist? And competing with me?" he said, taking the picture from her. "But thank you. I'll frame this as soon as I get home," he teased.
"You better!"
"Are you leaving the party already?" he asked her, changing the subject.
She nodded. "Yep. I have school tomorrow. And you, are you getting off work?"
"Yes. And I also have school tomorrow."
She wanted to ask him where he went to school. Maybe he went to the same university as her. Maybe she'd see him around campus sometime.
But for some reason, she was nervous to ask him.
"Where do you live?"
"Huh?" she asked, looking up at him in surprise. "Why...?"
"If you live near me, I'll drive you home."
Sunhee looked up at him suspiciously. "You seem nice... but you're a stranger. So thanks... but no thanks."
For a second, she was worried that he might be offended, but then he nodded.
"Makes sense," he said. "Stranger danger." He stood there awkwardly for a moment, hands in his pockets. A part of her wanted to say more, to keep the conversation going... but she didn't know what to say.
He also looked like he wanted to say more, but after a moment he just turned to her with a smile. "Bye. Nice meeting you."
He opened the door and left.
And for some reason, she was sad to see him go.
