~ 30 ~
Sunhee stood hand in hand with Kevin, the two of them in a corner of the room, watching proudly as people filed in and out, looking at their artwork. So far no one had bought anything, but they weren't discouraged.
For now, it was enough to just see their work on a wall. To have people view and admire it. To hear people say, "wow, this is beautiful."
For now, that was more than enough. It was more than Sunhee had even dared to dream of.
She'd always stuffed her dreams of photography down. That's why she had no idea what career she wanted to go down. Because the one thing she wanted always seemed unattainable.
But now, it seemed not so far out of reach.
Maybe she did have talent. Maybe she could dare to dream.
Maybe they both could.
They should try. After all, they'd never know what they were capable of accomplishing, not if they never dared to try.
Standing in that room, her hand tucked in Kevin's, she made a decision. The decision that she'd run after her dreams. That she'd go as far as she could. That she'd run towards them with no regrets.
"Sunhee Kim and Kevin Moon?"
They both looked up at the man who'd just read their name tags. He was looking at them curiously, hopefully.
He looked about their age, but he had an air of importance to him.
"Yes?" they both said.
"Hello. I'm Lee Sangyeon, it's nice to meet you," he said, holding out a business card to them. "I'm the director of a chain of art museums around the world, and we're looking for young artists with promise. You two may be just what we're looking for."
She felt Kevin's grip on her hand tighten, and she squeezed back, her heart pounding with excitement and nervousness. She reached forward, taking the card from his hand. "Thank you," she whispered.
"Please contact me," he told them kindly. "We should schedule a time to meet, to talk about the possibility of your work being displayed in one of our museums."
"Thank you," they both said breathlessly, bowing to him. He walked away with a smile.
She turned to Kevin, the shock and surprise and happiness on his face mirroring hers. He wordlessly hugged her, lifting her off the floor. She hugged him back, happy tears rolling down her cheeks.
He put her down, cupping her face in his hands as he leaned down to kiss her.
Her heart was about to beat out of her chest. Tears were rolling down her cheeks, and she could tell that he was crying too. When they broke the kiss, they both reached to wipe each other's tears, crying and laughing and crying some more as they did so.
They were going to be heading towards their dreams together, hand in hand.
She hoped they could do that forever.
Together.
