Chapter Ten:

Harry

"You need a haircut."

Harry rolled his eyes, "And you need to leave me alone."

The girl, whose name he still did not know, sat beside him.

"I don't want to."

"Well too bad, because I don't want you."

She frowned, "That's not true."

He turned to glare at her, "Yes it is. All you do is bother me and the other night you took advantage of me. Leave me the hell alone."

She didn't answer to any of that and instead asked, "Who is Scarlett?"

He sighed, frustrated with this infuriating woman, "I already told you."

His sketchbook vanished from the table and reappeared in her hands, "Why do you draw her like this so often? Titanic much?"

He practically ripped it from her hands, he was oddly possessive about that damn sketchbook, "Because that's how I usually saw her. Stay out of my things."

"Did she not ever wear clothes?"

Something inside of him fell as he answered, "No, not really."

"Why don't you talk to anyone here?"

He wanted to throw her out the window.

"Why don't you stop being a pain in my ass and leave me alone?"

The girl still did not listen and continued to ask him questions, "What was she like?"

His hands pulled at his hair harshly before he stood up, gathered the rest of his things, and walked away. She was driving him mad.

For once, she didn't follow him and he felt liberated at the thought alone.

                       * * *

"It sucks that you're leaving."

He couldn't help the whispered curse that passed his lips before he answered, "Quite the opposite. I can finally get away from you. Nearly three months in this hellhole is all I can tolerate."

She skipped alongside him, "Are you going to see her?"

Despite how annoying she was, he smiled to himself, "Yes, I am going to see Scarlett."

"Are you going to tell her that you fucked me?"

His jaw clenched and his mood turned sour again, "First of all, you fucked me. Secondly, yes because she deserves to know."

"Do you think she'll still love you?"

Harry threw his bags in the trunk and slammed the lid shut, he sighed heavily he answered, "I don't know if she loved me in the first place. Now go away."

For the first time in months, she finally listened and let him be.

He spent his first night out of rehab at his mother's flat before he got the nerve to go back to Scarlett. He was so nervous that his hands hardly ever stopped shaking for the whole duration of the night.

How would she react when she saw him again? He was so different now...at least appearance wise anyway.

Now, he stood outside her door, the sounds of loud music filling his ears, his heart pounding against his ribs, nearly leaping out of his chest. She was definitely high; he hoped to God that she was alone.

He took a deep breath before he opened the door and stepped inside the familiar apartment.

Everything was still the same except the door to her room was shut. He felt his heart sink in his chest, she definitely wasn't alone.

Nonetheless, he went for it anyway, opening the door only to find her in bed with some guy that she was yelling at to stop.

"Jesus no one is good enough anymore! Get out." She pushed him off of her and shook her head before noticing Harry in the doorway.

Her eyes widened and she laughed, not a normal laugh but more like an "I'm going crazy" laugh, "You're not real. He left months ago and he isn't coming back."

The lad gave him a look as he hurriedly dressed and practically ran out the door.

Harry shook his head and turned the music off before speaking, "Scarlett, it's not an illusion."

Her lower lip quivered and she shook her head in disbelief, "No. He left me. He has no reason to come back."

Before he could process what she would do, she took a pill from the dresser and popped it in her mouth, closing her eyes as she waited for the effect.

"You're wrong, I do have a reason to come back." He spoke as he moved to the bed. "I came back for you..."

Her eyes shot open when his hand caressed her cheek but his touch wasn't the reason for it, that extra pill she took had pushed her into an overdose.

Harry's eyes widened in horror when her body began to convulse and the realization hit him.

Immediately he called for an ambulance and hid all the drugs so she wouldn't get in even more trouble if she survived. Fuck he hoped she survived.

As he held her hand while they waited for the ambulance, he wondered why things never ended well for him when it came to love. It was like the universe had something against him falling in love.

"I'm so sorry Scarlett...I'm so sorry..."

                           * * *

Her blue eyes opened after two days and Harry could finally stop holding his breath.

"Scarlett?"

She was confused as to why he was there, "Harry? Where am I?"

He took her small, tube riddled hand, in his large one, "I came back to see you a few days ago and you overdosed. You're in the hospital two blocks from your apartment."

Her eyes moved to the tubes that laced her veins and she grimaced, "God I hate hospitals."

Neither said a word, the dull beep of the machines filling the room in increments, much like a metronome.

Scarlett continued after a few long minutes of thought, "You look different."

Harry laughed lightly at how that was the first thing she had to say after all that time, "That's because I'm healthy now, got off the drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes while I was gone."

A small smile formed on her lips as she continued to take in his new change in appearance, "I bet all the girls are lining up for you now huh?"

He messed with her delicate fingers and smiled a little to himself, "That may be true, but there's only one girl that I want."

Scarlett's smile dropped considerably and her answer was soft spoken, "Did you meet her while you were away?"

He shook his head and his smile widened, "No, I met her a few months before I left."

Her eyes lifted to meet his, she had a hard time determining if he meant her or someone else.

"Scarlett, that girl is you. That's what I came back to tell you before you overdosed."

The monitor that showed her heartbeat increased slightly as she whispered in disbelief, "What?"

His thumb ran over her finger lightly as he explained, "When I left, I left because I wasn't ready to put my heart on the line again after what happened last time. I'd been falling for you day by day at that point and when you asked me that question I...I got scared."

"I ended up staying with my mum for a bit and then voluntarily going to rehab for a while. There I realized that it was okay to give my heart away again, and that I wanted you to have it."

Tears welled in her eyes at his confession, "So you left because you fell in love with me?"

He nodded and kissed a clear spot on her hand, "Yes."

The tears fell free from the confines of her eyes, "Why didn't you say so before? I felt terrible and even hated you for a period of time."

"We had an arrangement and I didn't want it to be true because of what happened the last time. I really am sorry Scarlett, I had no intentions to hurt you."

He placed another gentle kiss to the part of her hand that was free from everything again.

After that, they sat and talked for hours about everything, excluding the overdose of course.

When it had come down to who the other had slept with, he was shocked to hear the number that fell from her lips. Where he had only slept with one girl, not really by his choice, she had slept with at least eight men trying to get him off her mind and out of her system.

However, she did make sure to tell him that it didn't work and she refused to let any of them even come near her piercings.

They ended up going home around eight and Scarlett was happy to let him stay with her again.

She had just opened her picture frame when he stopped her.

"What are you doing? You just got out of the hospital for an overdose and you're going right back for more?"

His eyes searched hers for answers and when she bit her lip in response it only made him angry.

His jaw clenched as he stood opposite of her, "Scarlett, you have to stop this! You're killing yourself!"

She pulled out a cigarette, lit It, took a drag and shrugged, "I'm okay with that."

He was angrier now and pushed her against the wall, his hands splayed on either side of her head, "Why!?"

His eyes bore into hers and she began to cry, "Because you only love me like this..."

When he didn't answer she continued, "Your love is the only drug that I crave and I just want you to want me."

His voice dropped to a whisper and he tucked a stray piece of her hair behind her ear, "Scarlett...I love you, not what the drugs do to you."

He leaned his head down, forehead touching hers, "Please stop all of this."

Her lips parted to answer but he silenced her with a kiss that stole her breath away.

"Please."

Scarlett nodded as he wiped the tears from her eyes, "Will you help me?"

Harry smiled, "Always."
