Chapter Eighteen:
Scarlett
"Why the hell not?" She was furious and wished anything that he were still holed up in that stupid rehab hours away from her.
"Because you seemed to have had a memory lapse and I'm going to make sure it all comes back to you."
Was he delusional!?
Scarlett scoffed and rolled her eyes, she yanked her hand free and answered, "My God! Is everyone from that damn place delusional!? I did not have a memory lapse and you will let me leave or so help me God-"
Noah frowned and reached for her hand only to be denied, "Sweetheart, it isn't good for you to be so harsh all the time, we've gone over this."
"Quite frankly, I don't give a damn."
She was seconds away from finding something to beat the crazy out of him with.
Noah sighed and ran a hand through his dark hair, "Do you really not remember that you love me?"
For a moment, she'd believed him. He had actually managed to look devastated and it made her question things momentarily.
Scarlett wasn't stupid, she'd been taking classes at the local University and one happened to be Psychology. She knew exactly what he was trying to do.
"That's not going to work Noah. What do you want?"
He laughed, a dry, almost humourless sound that sent her very bad vibes and completely dissolved his act.
"Isn't it obvious? I just want you Scarlett, every bloody inch of you that isn't mine."
Scarlett tightened the sheet around her, somehow feeling more uncomfortable than before, "I already told you, my heart belongs to Harry."
Nothing was going to change that.
Noah was staring out the immaculate window, admiring the bustling and shining city below and wondering why she was even with Harry to begin with. The guy was weird as hell, always happy, always nice, and always all over the place like a child.
He didn't see what she saw in him.
"Just tell me one thing, if he wasn't ever in the picture, would I have stood a chance?"
She fought the urge to laugh; it was a stupid question, Noah was a complete twat there was no way she'd ever do anything besides a one night stand with him.
She answered him honestly, "No. I wouldn't have gone to rehab and I would have ended up overdosing on my own and dying from it. That, or Jimmy would have killed me eventually. Plus, you're kind of a twat."
Noah rolled over the thought considerably, "Let me rephrase that, if you met me somewhere out of rehab, perhaps selling drugs or at a club, would I have stood a chance?"
Scarlett actually thought about that one, pondering his personality and characteristics, "Possibly, but only if you weren't this crazy. I don't appreciate being stalked, roofied, and then kidnapped from my boyfriend and my own flat."
Noah nodded, he was atill looking out the window as he spoke, "I understand. If you want to leave you can, I'll pay for the cab."
Scarlett was curious now, "Can I ask you a question?"
A curt nod of his head prompted her to continue, "Why are you so infatuated with me?"
He forced himself to look at her even though he knew it would only hurt him more, "I've never met someone so captivating and beautiful, so smart yet so confident, someone so truthful with such a vibrant spark. I don't know, honestly I just really adore you."
Scarlett's gaze lowered to her hands, she actually felt sort of bad, "I'm not as honest as you think I am."
Noah's eyes bore into her skin and she could feel it with such intensity without even glancing up at him, "What do you mean?"
Her blue eyes watered and her lower lip quivered as she took a shaky breath, "I've been keeping a really big secret from Harry because I'm afraid of how he'll react."

Harry
He hadn't slept all night. His mind ran wild with crazy scenarios that didn't make things any better.
For hours, he'd run over the thought that it was a ruse and she'd finally left him. But he knew that was far fetched and even stupid.
Where could she have gone?
He wanted to call the authorities but it had only been 24 hours and the requirement for missing persons was 48. He was moments away from screaming.
There was absolutely nothing he could do and he had to go to work in only a short hour. He hoped that she would turn up soon, he wasn't one-hundred percent sure that he could stay clean without her, or live without her really, he was already in too deep.
Sure, he had been clean by himself before, but that was because he needed to and was forced to do so in rehab.
Harry needed Scarlett as much as they each previously needed the drugs, and as much as she hopefully needed him.
She was the only reason that things got better and she was still, essentially, the only one he had.
He loved her; he really loved her and he wasn't willing to let her go if she had left on her own free will. It would decimate him.
His thoughts had take a turn for the worst when the front door opened to reveal a hungover, and very upset, looking Scarlett.
Her eyes were puffy and ringed with red, and she was squinting at the slightest light that dare make contact, her body looked exhausted and her spirit almost crushed.
Harry didn't care. He was just glad she was back and alive. Without hesitation, he met her halfway and engulfed her in his arms, smoothing her hair and kissing the top of her head.
"Thank god you're alright..." He was so relieved that it no longer felt like a crushing weight was added to his lungs each time he tried to breathe.
Scarlett cried silently knowing that she would have to tell him soon and melted into his embrace.
Somehow, even without seeing her face, he knew she was crying and pulled away only to caress her face and ask in a soft tone, "Baby is everything okay? Why are you crying?"
Her lips shook as she noticed the way he was looking at her, with such love and genuine concern. He was looking at her like his entire world was crumbling, the weight of his heart being set upon her happiness and nothing more and God, was it beautiful.
Scarlett inhaled and let out a deep, shaky breath, "No, can you take off work today? I need you to come somewhere with me."
Confused, and very worried, Harry called in from work almost instantly, requesting that she tell him what happened while she was gone.
Once she had explained everything to him, well, almost everything, his nerves quieted and his mind finally relaxed.
"Do you want to press charges or get a restraining order?" He asked quietly, she was still very upset but he could tell it wasn't about Noah kidnapping her.
Scarlett shook her head, "No, he's going to leave me alone now."
He was still at a loss for what else she had to tell him but that would have to wait until they arrived at wherever she was taking him.

Scarlett distracted him as the bus rolled by the building signs, she didn't want him to see beforehand and cause a scene.
He felt her squeeze his hand rather harshly and turned to catch a glimpse but all he could make out was the dull peach color and a blur of letters.
She tried to paint on a stolid expression but he could see right through it. He kissed her cheek, offered her a soft smile, and squeezed back, "Whatever it is Scarlett, you still have me, you will always have me."
Ten minutes later, they were sitting in a dull beige room, the walls lined with posters in tiny and nearly unreadable print. It smelt terrible and it only made the both of them a higher degree of nervous.
What seemed like an eternity had passed before the door opened to reveal an average height, slightly balding man in a bright white lab coat.
"Hello again Miss Silverman, I see you brought someone with you this time? Is this the young man you speak so frequently about?"
Scarlett nodded, her eyes shining with tears that she wouldn't let spill over, "Yes, this is Harry. Harry, this is Dr. Reineke, my cancer specialist..."
