Upside Down
Stevie laid on the floor crying her heart out. But after some time, she stood up from the floor and dried her eyes.
She then looked around the dining room and saw the mess she had made so she quickly grabbed a broom to clean everything up. She didn't want Sarah to walk in and see the room a mess.
Once she cleaned up and threw away the broken dishes, she walked upstairs and went into her bedroom.
She was suddenly tired, so she began her nightly routine. She then put on a nightgown. She got into bed and only then did she let her tears fall once again, but this time they were silent tears.
She laid in her bed and thought that maybe this was just a dream. The love of her life didn't just break her heart. Maybe her son wasn't even in a coma.
"This has to be a dream." Stevie thought to herself. She closed her eyes. "Yes, this is just a dream. My son is in his bed down the hall in his room and Lindsey is laying right next to me. Hugging me from behind like he always does each night."
Stevie opened her eyes and she began to sob again. Lindsey wasn't next to her hugging her nor was her son asleep in his room down the hall. No, this was no dream. This was her reality.
A few minutes later, Lindsey came back home. He and John decided to go back to their wives and try to explain things a bit more. He couldn't just leave Stevie in the state he had left her in.
He peeked into the dining room and saw that it was spotless. He then made his way up the stairs and into his and Stevie's bedroom.
Lindsey approached the bedroom and heard Stevie's cries; his heart ached for her. He took a deep breath then opened the bedroom door.
He walked in and the room was dark so he turned on the light. Stevie looked over and saw Lindsey. She sat up and said. "I thought you left. Get out!"
"Steph, I can't leave you right now. I need to explain to you my reasons for doing this." Lindsey as he walked closer.
"What is there to explain?" Stevie said angrily. "Our marriage was lie and you had an affair! That about sums it up."
"Stevie...I do love you." Lindsey said as stepped closer to her. "I just...I'm not in love with you. I realize that I messed up and should have been honest with you from day one. I always knew since a young age that I was different and...I was attracted to other, at the time, boys. But, you just had this aura coming from you and was so drawn to it. I can't explain it. As time went on and you told me that you loved me, I couldn't help but say it back. Then I just..." Lindsey stops and sits down beside Stevie. "My Mom told me how much she loved you and that she hoped that I would marry you. You were the perfect daughter in law in her eyes. She wanted us to get married and have all these children that she could spoil. After some time, I made up my mind and asked you to you to marry me. Then when we had Sara, I just couldn't ever tell you the truth."
Stevie tears continued as she listened to her husband. She couldn't believe this was happening. She felt as if her marriage was lie for the past twenty years and she felt used.
"Then we had Dylan and that sealed my fate that you and I were going to be married forever. Till death do us part. Because my children are everything to me and I was content being with you and having my children close, I was willing to sacrifice being who I am." Lindsey said as tears formed in his eyes. "Then one night ten years ago, John and I hung out in his hotel room and we were drinking. We didn't get drunk. We were still very aware of what we were saying. I told him the truth that I was attracted to other men and he confessed he felt the same way. One thing led to another and well..." Lindsey paused then went on. "After we had the accident and we almost lost our lives, I realized that I couldn't live with this lie any longer. Life can be taken away in a blink of an eye and I needed to come clean and be with the one I truly love. Which I didn't find until ten years ago and that was John. I didn't want to waste anymore time. But then finding out that Dylan was in a coma and seeing how bad of a place you were in I couldn't do that to you. So, for this past year I just, I just kept the affair going. But I can't do it anymore Stevie. As much as I hate seeing you in pain, I don't want to waste anymore time and I want to be with John."
Stevie was sobbing again and she turned away from Lindsey. She felt her whole world crashing down. Stevie wanted to yell and scream at Lindsey and tell him exactly how she felt, but, she just couldn't do it.
Stevie just took a deep breath, looked at Lindsey and said. "Fine. I'll give you the divorce without a fight. Just get your things and get out of my house. Go be with John."
"Stephanie..." Lindsey began.
"No!" Stevie said. "I don't want to listen to you anymore and I don't want to see you. Now please, start packing and go."
Stevie laid back down and turned away from Lindsey. Lindsey sighed then stood up. He then walked to their closet and took a few suitcases down from their spots.
He opened them and started grabbing some clothes. He packed as much as he could then closed the suitcases. He would have to come back and pack more things. For now this would have to do,
He grabbed the suitcases then left closet and left the bedroom. He was going to tell Stevie that he was leaving but, he decided against it.
As he made his way downstairs with his suitcases, Sara was just getting home. She had just dropped off the Mcvie twins at their house and drove straight home.
Sara saw her father coming downstairs and she said. "Daddy, what are doing with those suitcases? Are you going on a trip?"
Lindsey wasn't ready to tell his daughter the truth but, he needed to just get it over with. Lindsey took a deep breath and said. Sara...I need to tell you something. Come sit down in the living room with me."
After telling Sara his truth, Sara cried; she couldn't get over the fact that her father cheated on her mother for the past ten years and now her parents were getting a divorce.
All her life, all she knew was how in love her parents were; well, so she thought. Her parents had been an example of how a man should treat and love his wife and how a wife should treat her husband.
Sure, her parents marriage wasn't perfect. They argued, they had many disagreements, but only when recording a new album. Other than that they would get into arguments but would quickly make up.
Sara knew nothing else and this news was throwing her life upside down.
Sara yelled at Lindsey and he tried to defend himself but she wasn't listening.
"Just get out Dad!" Sara said angrily. "I don't want to see you anymore! I hate you!"
Lindsey's heart broke hearing his daughter say those things to him but he didn't want to make it worse, so he grabbed his suitcases and left the house.
Once Lindsey left, Sara rushed upstairs to her parents bedroom. She opened the door and heard her mother's sobs.
Sara walked closer and said. "Mama..."
Stevie couldn't help but sob harder.
"Oh Mom." Sara said as she climbed up into the bed and hugged her mother tightly. Tears rolling down her cheeks. "It's going to be okay. We will...we will get through this together. Just you and me."
Stevie turned to her daughter and hugged her back. That night, Sara slept cuddled up next to her mother like she used to do when she was a little girl.
Stevie of course got no sleep. She just cried silently holding her baby girl in her arms and wishing her baby boy was with her as well.
In that moment, Stevie decided to shut down her feelings about Lindsey and just concentrate on her children. Her children were truly the life line she needed in this moment.
Little did she know, that life was going to hit her below the belt once again. This time, it was going to take a lot for her to get through this next part of her life.
