Need A Break

After Stevie has calmed down, Karen helped Barbara up then Stevie. They all then made their way back to the car.

Stevie sat in the front seat with her head resting on the head rest. Her eyes closed.
She felt so exhausted. Both emotionally and physically.

When they arrived back home, Stevie said she was going upstairs to take a nap. Barbara was so worried.

Once Stevie made it to her room, she took off her shoes then climbed up in her bed. She laid on her side and curled into a loose ball. She took hold of Dylan's penguin and held it close to her. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she silently cried herself to sleep.

Christine made some tea for herself, Barbara and Karen. Jess stepped out of the kitchen to use the phone so he could cancel their flight and check in on his home.

A neighbor was watching the house for Barbara and Jess. The neighbor said everything was okay and Jess relaxed a little.

Christine handed cups of tea to Barbara and Karen. Then they sat down at the kitchen table.

"I'm so worried about Stephanie." Barbara said to Christine. She then tells her what Stevie was saying and how she broke down at the cemetery. "We need to find Stephanie some help. She can't keep having those kinds of thoughts. I'm so afraid she'll...she'll hurt herself." Tears rolled down her cheeks.

Christine sighed sadly then said. "I'm sorry I didn't catch on, Barbara. She seemed as if she was doing better. She has been hiding her feelings well."
"I'm sorry too." Karen said. "Ever since Dylan died, she hasn't been needing me around as much. I should have checked on her more."
"It's not either of your faults. There's nothing to be sorry for." Barbara said as she gave Christine and Karen a small smile. "As you said, she's been hiding her true feelings well. Now we just have to find her some help."

They took a drink of their tea and all were quiet for a moment. Then they started to discuss how they could help Stevie.

Karen told Barbara that she would take care of finding a therapist for Stevie. She was usually the one who took care of Stevie's appointments and such.

An hour later, Barbara walked upstairs to check on Stevie. She peeked into Stevie's bedroom.

"Teedee?" Barbara said as she walked into the room.

Barbara found Stevie's bed empty. She looked over at the bathroom and knew Stevie wasn't in there. The light was off and the door was open.

Barbara rushed out of the room, Christine has come upstairs to also check on Stevie. "Is she alright?"
"She's not in her room." Barbara said worriedly. "We know she's not downstairs."

Christine looked down the hall and said. "Which can only mean one thing."

Barbara nods and follows Christine to Dylan's room. Christine knocked on the door but got no answer. She turned the knob then went inside. They found Stevie lying on Dylan's bed just like they used to find her all those months ago.

Her back was facing the door. Christine and Barbara walked closer. Christine walking over to where Stevie was facing. She saw Stevie's eyes open, Stevie was just staring straight ahead.

"Stevie, it's lunch time." Christine said. "Come on. Let's go downstairs. Karen should be back any minute with our food."
"I'm not hungry." Stevie said without emotion. "I'm tired and I just want to rest here."
Barbara walked over, bent down and looked into Stevie's eyes. "Teedee, you need to eat. Not just for yourself, but for the baby too."

Stevie closed her eyes and tears slipped down her cheeks. She buried her face into the stuffed animal.

"Come on, Teedee. Let's go eat." Barbara said as she brushed her hand over Stevie's hair in comfort.

Barbara spoke softly to Stevie and after a few minutes, she managed to get Stevie out of Dylan's room and helped Stevie freshen up.

Soon Karen had arrived with their lunch and they all sat down to eat.

Stevie at first began to pick at her food not really eating. But soon, she ate all her meal. The reason for that was, the baby began to kick within her womb.

Due to the heavy feeling in her heart, Stevie didn't get too excited about the gentle kicks the baby was now giving her. With her previous pregnancies, Stevie was extremely happy to feel those first kicks. Now however, she just couldn't feel happy.

It was in that moment that Stevie decided to give therapy a try. She needed to get better for her unborn child who needed her to be strong.

*1 week later*

It was almost time for Sara to go back to school and she nervous about leaving her mother's side. Her grandparents had stayed longer than they originally planned and now Sara knew why.

Also, Sara saw the change in Stevie and noticed she was back to the way she was before leaving to Hawaii. She was really worried about her mother and for her unborn sibling.

Sara has been thinking long and hard about her education.

One afternoon, Sara was visiting Lindsey and John. They were having dinner and Lindsey asked how things were going.

"Well...I think I'm going to take a year off of school." Sara said nervously. "I'm planning on going back next summer and resume my education then."
Lindsey's brow furrowed and asked. "Why are you not going back to school?"

Sara chewed the bottom of her lip then said. "Because...because I just need a break."
"Sara, what's the real reason?" Lindsey asked calmly. "Does your mother agree with your decision?"
Sara sighed then said. "Because I don't want to leave mom right now and no. She doesn't know yet."

"What's going on with your mother?" Lindsey asked worriedly.
"She...she is back to feeling like she felt before she left to Hawaii." Sara said as she looked down. "It's bad daddy." Tears rolled down her cheeks. "Mom needs a lot of support right now and I just can't bring myself to leave. I know my school is still in Los Angeles but, it's far."

"Is Stevie getting any help or anything?" John asked feeling concerned for his friend.
"On Monday will be her first appointment with a therapist." Sara said. "I'm hoping she'll get better. She needs to get better because..."

Sara stopped herself from revealing to her father that Stevie was pregnant. She didn't want to break her promise to her mother.

"Because what?" Lindsey asked.
"Because...because I need her." Sara said, feeling emotional. "I don't want to lose her."

Lindsey stood up and walked over to Sara. He sat in the seat next to her and hugged her tight.

"It's going to be okay." Lindsey said. "I know your mother will get through this. She's a strong woman."

Sara nodded her head against her father's chest, feeling safe and reassured.

After some time, they all go back to eating their dinner and having casual conversation.

Later that night, John laid in bed reading a book and Lindsey was in the shower.

Once Lindsey walked out of the bathroom, he was quiet and lost in his thoughts. He laid down and stared at the ceiling.

John looked over and noticed Lindsey's mood. He put down his book and laid it down on the nightstand by the bed.

"Lindsey, what's wrong?" John asked as he turned over.
"Nothing." Lindsey answered as he turned to look at John. "What makes you think something is wrong?"
"Well, because ever since Sara left, you've been a little absent." John replied.

Lindsey sighed and sat up; he rested his back against the headboard. "Well, as you know, I still care about Stevie and I am really worried about her. I just hope she gets the help she needs."
"Me too." John said; he too was worried about Stevie. "I'm positive she'll get help. She has a great support system. Hey, maybe we can visit when we come back from our trip?"
"You don't mind?" Lindsey asked.
"Of course not." John said. "I want to show Stevie that we still care and I still want to be friends with her. I hope we can get our friendship back."
Lindsey smiled a little and said. "I want that too."

John and Lindsey then said goodnight to each other, John falling asleep first.

Lindsey laid awake, his mind on Stevie. The same thoughts plagued his mind as he wondered how it was possible to love two people at once?
