It's Not Important

"What?" Lindsey said wide eyed.
"You're the father of this baby, Lindsey." Stevie repeated.

Lindsey was in shock but was extremely happy at the same time. Without thinking he sat on Stevie's bed facing her.

"Oh my god." Lindsey whispered as he stared at Stevie's belly. "May I?"

Stevie bit her bottom lip nervously and nodded.

Lindsey gently put his hands on her belly, careful not to disturb the fetal monitor that was around her belly. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he felt how firm and round her belly was.

"You're four, about to five months along?" He asked.
Stevie nodded and let Lindsey hold her belly.
"Steph...why didn't you tell me?" He asked.

Stevie took a deep breath and said. "Because I didn't want to ruin your marriage. You and John are married and...and I didn't want John to feel that heartbreak of being cheated on."

Lindsey couldn't help the tears that rolled down his cheeks. For a moment, he forgot he was married to the love of his life.

"You should have told me regardless." Lindsey said sadly. "Stevie...I lost a child already. I don't want to lose another."

Stevie began to sob silently. She heard the pain in his voice. It cut her to the core.

"I do love John. But, I want to be a part of my child's life and if this causes my marriage to fall apart then so be it." Lindsey said he took his hands off of her belly and took her hand in his. "Please, let me be there for this child."
Stevie looked at Lindsey and asked. "Okay. You can be there for her. She deserves to have her father in her life."
"Her? A daughter!" Lindsey smiled wide through his tears. "Thank you! I won't let her down."

Stevie smiled and wiped her tears. They stayed quiet for a moment then she asked. "Lindsey...why were you and Tom fighting? I thought everything was fine between the two of you."
"Uh...it's not important." Lindsey replied.

Stevie rose an eyebrow and said. "Lindsey Adams Buckingham...tell me the truth."
Lindsey sighed and said. "I, uh...well. I was asking Tom if you and him were together. He said no, but that he was hoping that one day you and him would be together. I...I became jealous and we exchanged of few words then we started going at each other. I'm sorry, Stevie."

Stevie recoiled a little and took her hand out of his hand and said. "Jealous? Ha! Lindsey, why would you be jealous? We're not married anymore and you have no right to be jealous. No, Tom and I are not together but as he said, I'm open to the idea." Stevie stopped for a moment trying not to get angry. She took a deep breath and continued. "Even if we were together, why would it matter to you? You're married to John!"

Lindsey stood up and began to pace. "I know. I know I have no right to be jealous. But...Steph...you are the only women I fell in love with. I still care about you and we spent so many great years together. We have two beautiful children together. I know I'm married and I...I don't regret it. I do love John. But I couldn't help but let my jealousy get the best of me when Tom said he wanted to be with you. Only then did I realize that...that it's really over between us." He said trying to figure out his feelings as he spoke. "Again, I'm so sorry. For everything."

Stevie laid her head back, she closed her eyes and sighed. She was so exhausted and she didn't know what to say.

Lindsey saw how tired Stevie was, so he said goodbye. He touched her belly one last time then left the room.

When he stepped out and the door closed, Lindsey let out a heavy sigh. He knew he had no choice but to tell his husband the truth about what happened the night of his daughters' birthday party.

Lindsey decided to tell John the truth once they got home. Only then will Lindsey find out whether his marriage would survive this news or it will crumble right before his eyes.

Sorry for the short chapter,

In the next chapter we will find out John's reaction to Lindsey's news.
