Is It Possible?
Lindsey sat outside on the balcony of his condo. He was mindlessly playing Landslide on his guitar.
For the past five weeks, all Lindsey could do was think about Stevie and their night together.
He wondered what it meant; he became confused whether he was gay or not. Was all this just a mid life crisis? No, he didn't think it was. He finally came to the conclusion that, he did still care about Stevie and loved her very much. She was the mother of his children and for that he would always have a special place in his heart for her. So, in a way he did love Stevie.
"Is it possible to be in love with two people at once?" He thought to himself.
The doorbell rang interrupting his thoughts; he stopped playing his guitar and stood up. He walked inside the condo and before answering the door, he placed his guitar down against the wall.
He opened the door to reveal Sara.
"Hi daddy." Sara said as she gave him hug.
"Hey sweet pea." Lindsey replied.
They pulled away then they both walked into the living room.
When Dylan died, Sara decided to not waste time being angry with her father. She realized that her father could be gone in any moment and she now wanted to cherish her time with her father.
She now tried to have an open mind and accept her father's new partner. So, she would visit Lindsey whenever she could.
"Where is everyone?" Sara asked as the sat down on the sofa.
"John took the girls to the movies." Lindsey said. "I wasn't in the mood to go out so, I stayed behind."
"How are you doing?" She asked; she could tell there was something wrong.
"I'm okay." Lindsey replied. "It's just, some days are better than others. How about yourself?"
Sara shrugged and looked down; tears filled her eyes and said. "I can't believe Dylan is gone, daddy. I miss him."
Lindsey scooted over to Sara and hugged her tight. "Me too, sweet pea. Me too." Tears rolled down his cheeks.
Sara cried in her father's arms; she missed her little brother dearly and she still struggled that he was gone. Even though she and Dylan would get into arguments and at the time, Dylan would annoy her when they were younger, she missed having those moments with him. She wished she could give him a hug and tell him how much she loves him and that he was the best brother.
After some time, Sara had calmed down and both their tears had dried. Lindsey pulled away and said. "Hey, want some ice cream?"
Lindsey would always treat his children to ice cream whenever they were feeling down and he hoped this would help lift up their moods.
Sara smiled and nodded. "Yes." She said, sounding like a child.
Lindsey chuckled and said. "Let's go!"
Once they got to an ice cream shop they've been going to for years, Lindsey and Sara ordered their favorite ice cream then they sat at their usual table.
They ate their ice cream in silence then after some time, Lindsey asked. "Have you spoken to your mother?"
Sara looked up and replied. "I did. I spoke to her last night. She and auntie Chris are coming home today. I'm going over later and catch up with her."
"That's great." Lindsey said. "How is she?"
He truly was concerned about Stevie.
"She's been doing okay." Sara said. "I talked to auntie Chris and she said Mom has been doing much better. She's eating well again and she and auntie Chris did a lot during their stay. I can't wait to see mom. I missed her a whole lot."
Lindsey smiled at knowing Stevie was doing well. "I'm glad to hear."
They then went on to talk about Sara's classes and how she had been doing. Once they finished their ice cream, they made their way back to the condo to spend more time together.
Sara then said goodbye to her father after a few hours and made her way to see her mother.
Karen had picked up Stevie and Christine from the airport. They were now back at Stevie's and were unpacking.
Stevie's stomach was doing flips and she couldn't understand why. She just figured it was due to jet lag.
Stevie laid down on her bed and sighed in relief. She was exhausted, so she closed her eyes and dozed off.
"Mommy?" Sara said as she shook her mother's shoulder. It was an hour later and Sara had stopped by.
Stevie's eyes fluttered opened and she smiled up at her daughter. Stevie sat up and hugged Sara tightly.
"Oh, Sara! I missed you so much!" Stevie said happily.
"I missed you too, mom." Sara said.
Sara pulled away and took in her mother's appearance. She smiled and said. "You look great, mom! I was so worried about you."
Sara's smile faded and sadness took over. Stevie sighed and said. "I'm okay, baby girl. This trip was a good thing for me. I'm glad I went."
Stevie smiled and said. "You staying tonight?"
Sara nodded.
"Christine and the twins will be here as well." Stevie said. "We'll have a girls night!"
Sara smiled again and was excited to spend some time with her mother and have a fun night with everyone.
