Broken Pieces

After leaving the hospital, Stevie and Lindsey drove home.

It was always difficult leaving their son behind. They both wished with all their might that their son would wake up and come home with them.

Once they reached their home, Lindsey held Stevie's hand as they walked into the house and into their bedroom.

They changed into comfortable clothes then Stevie made dinner. They sat in comfortable silence as they ate.

This was how their evenings usually went after visiting Dylan in the hospital everyday. They both wouldn't speak to each other as they were both still dealing with the pain of having their son in a coma.

But once dinner was done and dishes were washed and put away, Stevie would be the first one to speak. Lindsey would know that Stevie was ready to talk and they would lay in bed and talk about the day and of course their children. Especially Dylan.

Some time later, it was the almost the end of May. Sara was coming home for the summer and Stevie's birthday was a few days away.

Lindsey didn't want to ruin Stevie's birthday so, he and the person he loves agreed to wait till after Stevie's birthday to tell their loved ones how they truly felt for each other.

Stevie's birthday went well and Sara was finally home to celebrate with her mother. Stevie cherished each second she had with her daughter.

Stevie spent the afternoon with both her children at the hospital. She and Sara spent time with Dylan together and Sara would tell her little brother all he was missing and would tell him that it was time to wake up.

Sara really missed her little brother and even though they fought, as most siblings do, her heart broke each time Dylan's eyes remained closed.

After they left the hospital that evening, Lindsey threw Stevie a small birthday party with only close friends and family.

Stevie had a great time and Lindsey gave her one last night of being husband and wife.

Of course, Stevie didn't know that and just thought Lindsey was treating her to a wonderful and romantic birthday.

A week or so later, and it was June 1st.

Tonight was the night that Lindsey was going to come out to Stevie. He was so nervous but he was determined to be with his true love.

Stevie was cooking dinner because her best friends and band mates were coming over to because they hadn't seen each other in a while. Or at least, Stevie hasn't.

The doorbell rang and Stevie rushed to answer it. Dinner was done and ready to be served.

"Christine! John!" Stevie exclaimed. She hugged first Christine then John.

John and Christine Mcvie are a part of Fleetwood Mac. John plays bass and Christine plays the keyboard and sings.

"Stevie! It's so good to see you love." Christine said.
"Yeah, Stevie. It's good to see you." John said shyly.
"It's great to see the both of you." Stevie said. She then looked to the side and saw John and Christine's seventeen year old twin daughters. "Amy! Emma! How are you girls doing?"
"We're doing great aunt Stevie." Amy said as she hugged Stevie.
"Yeah, we are good." Emma said as she then hugged Stevie. "Is Sara ready?"

Just then Sara came rushing down the stairs.
"Yeah! Sara's ready." Sara said as she reached the bottom of the stairs with a chuckle.

She then proceeded to greet Christine and John. Then she turned to the twins and said. "Let's go."
"Girls! Please be careful." Stevie said worriedly.

Ever since the accident, Stevie got very panicked whenever anyone she loved and cared about got into a vehicle. It took Stevie a while to even get back into a car. But since driving was the only way for her to see her son, she pushed her fear away and each time, she would try her best to not have a panic attack.

"We will Mom." Sara said as she hugged her mother. "We'll come straight home after the movie is over."
"Okay, sweet girl. But, still be careful." Stevie said.
"Okay. I love you mom." Sara said as she pulled away.
"I love you too." Stevie said as she then let go of her daughter.

Sara then hugged everyone else goodbye and so did the twins. They all left to get their evening started.

Lindsey finally got a chance to greet Christine, then John. A knowing look exchanged between them, then they looked quickly away.

Soon, they were all seated and their meal was ate in content. Well, for Lindsey, he was a ball of nerves but he knew he needed to do this and not live a lie anymore.

After finishing their dinner, dessert was brought out.

They got a slice of cake but Lindsey didn't touch his slice. Lindsey took a deep breath and thought. "It's now or never Lindsey. You can do this."

"Uh...before the night is out. I have something really important to say." Lindsey began. "This involves the both of you as well." He said as he gestured towards Christine and John. "Stephanie..." he turned to Stevie and looked her in the eyes. "There's something I need to tell you. I've been hiding a secret that I have carried since I was child. I knew even at a young age that I was different."
"Lindsey...what do you mean?" Stevie asked worriedly.
"Ever since the accident, I realized how much life can change in an instant. Ever since the accident I realized I want to live life to the fullest and be who I truly am. I don't want to be scared anymore and hide. Stephanie...I love and care about you very much..." Lindsey said as he took a deep breath then let it out. "But, I want a divorce."

Stevie gasp, her eyes went wide and tears filled them.

"What?" She whispered.
"I'm sorry to do this to you. But, I want to be with the one I truly love. We've been having an affair for the past ten years." Lindsey went on as he looked at the pain he was causing Stevie. It was too late to go back now. "Stevie, I'm...I'm gay, and I fell madly in love with...with John."

Lindsey looked over at John who had turned to Christine and said. "Chris...I'm so sorry but I too want a divorce. Lindsey and I want to not waste another second apart . We want to be together."
Christine mouth hung opened, her eyes wide. "You...you can't be serious! Oh my god!"
"John and I already saw a lawyer and we've  each drawn up the divorce papers. They should be delivered to the both you some time tomorrow." Lindsey said.

Stevie cried into her hands and Christine chugged her glass of wine then poured herself some more. Christine hid her broken heart but her anger was in full display.

Christine stood up and said. "Don't you dare come home right now. I don't want to see your face." She downed the rest of her glass then stormed out of the house.

Lindsey put his hand on Stevie's shoulder but she shrugged it off.

"Don't touch me." Stevie sobbed. "I want you both to leave my house. I don't want you here Lindsey. I can't...I can't handle this right now."
"Steph..." Lindsey said.
"Get out!" Stevie yelled.

When John nor Lindsey moved, Stevie grabbed whatever she could and threw it at Lindsey.

Lindsey dodged the items which were plates and silverware, each breaking into pieces on the floor.

Lindsey wanted to make sure Stevie was alright, but he knew she wouldn't want to hear anything he had to say. So, he grabbed John's hand and his car keys and left the house.

Stevie threw the last item that was left on the table then slid herself to the floor.

Stevie curled into a ball and sobbed her heart out. The man she loved with all her heart just finished breaking it into a million pieces, just like the broken plates that now littered the dining room floor.
