A Mistake

After hours of flying, the plane finally touched down in Hawaii. Stevie slept the whole way there while Christine had woken up two hours before they landed.

Christine rented a car for their stay and before they knew it, they were walking into their beach house.

This beach house was shared with the whole band. It was set on private land and they had their own personal beach.

Throughout the years, they would either stay together with their families or separate for little getaways.

Now, it was just Stevie and Christine who would be staying with no interruptions from the outside world.

Stevie walked into her room, again her heart ached. This was the bedroom she and Lindsey would stay in when they would stay there.

Stevie shook her head and said to herself. "Get it together, Stephanie Lynn. Stop thinking about Lindsey."

She then went about unpacking and putting away her things away into the dresser drawers and closet.

The last thing she unpacked was Dylan's penguin. She had found comfort in sleeping with the stuffed toy each night, holding it close to her heart. She placed it on her bed then she walked downstairs to meet Christine.

Christine had picked up some food so they could sit on the back patio. Stevie grabbed their drinks then met Christine outside.

They ate their meal and talked. When they were done, they put everything away then Christine made them both some tea.

Stevie was still not feeling well due to the hangover she got from last nights events. She hoped the tea would help ease her headache.

Christine brought out their cups of tea and handed Stevie a cup. Stevie took it into her hands and took a sip.

"Thank you." She said as Christine took a drink from her own cup.
"You're welcome." Christine replied.

They stayed quiet for a while, just taking in the scenery. Both were lost in their own thoughts.

Christine was thinking about her best friend who was more like a sister to her, hoping this little getaway would help Stevie.

Stevie of course was thinking about Dylan and Lindsey. She knew she would never get over her son's death. It would always be a constant presence in her mind until the day she died.

Stevie was trying her best to move on with her life but she felt so stuck and it was as if a veil was placed over her eyes.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she watched the sun go down. The sun casting beautiful colors across the ocean; the sunset was breathtaking.

Christine turned towards Stevie and noticed her crying. "Stevie, are you okay?" She asked.
Stevie shook her head no then said. "I...I did something bad."
Christine furrowed her eyebrows and asked. "What did you do?"
Stevie was sobbing now. "Last....last night...I...I slept with Lindsey!"
"What?!" Christine exclaimed.

Stevie put her cup of tea down then turned towards Christine.

"Lindsey took me home and...and I invited him in." Stevie said, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I opened a bottle of wine and we sat down and...at first, we didn't say a word to each other. I didn't want to speak to him. We just drank our wine. But...after Lindsey drank almost the whole bottle, I suggested he not drive in his condition. He agreed but then...then things escalated. He wanted to talk about Dylan but I didn't want to. Then we argued. I was drunk and he was too. After we argued that....that's when it happened. We got carried away and...well, we had sex. At the time, I didn't care. I just missed him so much! Now, my heart is broken beyond repair. I know now that I made a mistake."

Stevie was sobbing uncontrollably and Christine quickly walked over to Stevie's side. She held Stevie close to her and tried to comfort Stevie.

"Why can't I stop loving him?" Stevie said after some time. "Lindsey was supposed to be my soulmate. I gave him my heart and...he broke it. We used talk about growing old together, surrounded by our many grandchildren. Now..."

Stevie couldn't go on; she just continued sob in Christine's arms. Christine rocked her back and forth as if Stevie were a small child.

There was no words Christine could say to ease Stevie's mind. Christine was feeling the same way about John. John was supposed to be her soulmate and they too had plans of growing old together and watch their grandchildren grow up. Christine hid her feelings much better than Stevie, but she too was as equally heartbroken for ending of her marriage.

That night, Christine slept with Stevie in Stevie's room. She didn't want to leave her alone so, she first helped Stevie into bed then she went into her room to change into her pajamas.

When she returned, she found Steve fast asleep holding onto the stuffed penguin. Christine smiled a sad smile then she got into bed.

She turned off the lamp on the nightstand then she sunk into the comfy blankets. Christine sighed silently as the last thought she had before falling asleep was John.
