Chapter Thirty-Two

The week passed by grudgingly slow for Amelia and the classes were longer than she remembered they were. Her professors gave out homework on the very first lesson and all of the students were given the speech. The speech consisted of the opportunities available when they left Hogwarts and scaring the students by saying this was their last chance to get some qualifications before they would have to leave and live by themselves in the real world.

By the time Amelia got out of her last class, she felt as though her hands would drop off from all the writing as the stress ripped into her anew. She went straight to the library whilst everyone else went to their common room, dorm, or outside to the lake just to enjoy themselves. She guessed they would finally come to realise the amount of homework they had to do when the stack of homework started to tilt and spill all over the floor.

‘Hello, dear,’ the librarian smiled at her as Amelia walked in, ‘I hope you’re staying out of trouble.’

‘You know me, I don’t get into trouble,’ Amelia lied and smiled at her, shifting the stack of textbooks in her arms, ‘I don’t have any time to myself because of all this homework!’

‘That’s a price to pay to be successful,’ the librarian said and Amelia just nodded before walking down the aisles of books.

Amelia finally got to the table at the end of the library, where she usually sat, and saw a Gryffindor boy in her own year sitting there too. He looked up at her as she dumped the books onto the table with a bang and pulled back the chair before sitting on it, relieving her stress slightly. The boy, whose name was Jake, smirked and looked down at his textbook.

‘Sure, you can sit there. I don’t mind,’ he said softly, his eyes roaming the page.

‘Only if you don’t mind,’ Amelia chuckled, opening her History of Magic textbook, ‘you see, I usually sit here because it’s next to the window and there’s always a light breeze and I’m not going to move just because you’re here. Oh! We could do the History of Magic essay together, what do you say?’

‘You do realise that I’m friends with your cousin, James, right?’ he asked, hesitating a little as Amelia flicked through the textbook to the right page. She frowned, looking up at him and examining his green eyes.

‘Relax, I’m not asking you on a date or anything,’ she rolled her eyes at him. Jake chuckled, a throaty sound but quite appealing. Amelia smiled, ‘so History of Magic?’

‘I guess so,’ Jake shrugged and leaned back in his chair, watching as she finally got to the right page and wrote the heading on a piece of parchment. Amelia finally looked up at him.

‘Are you done staring?’ Amelia asked, sliding the textbook over to him, ‘let’s write this essay. I don’t have all day.’

‘I knew I’d find you here!’

Amelia turned and looked down the aisle of books to see Scorpius walking towards her, dressed in trousers and a white button down shirt with his tie loosened around his neck. He didn't notice Jake sitting in front of her as he leaned in and kissed her. Amelia smiled at him and kissed him back for a second before pulling back so she could look at his face. She really missed him even though he was in the same classes as she was but because he didn't want their relationship to be out there, they had to keep away from each other. Amelia waited, with a smirk, for Scorpius to realise that Jake was sitting in front of her whose mouth had nearly dropped open at their kiss.

‘Well, if I was a teenage girl and not friends with James Potter, the news of Amelia Weasley and Scorpius Malfoy kissing would have spread around the school so fast,’ Jake muttered.

‘Don’t worry,’ Amelia rolled her eyes at Scorpius as he suddenly stood up, just noticing that they weren’t alone, ‘he won’t tell anyone.’

‘Oh, I won’t?’ Jake asked, smirking at her as she narrowed her eyes at him. He turned his eyes on Scorpius who was glaring at him, ‘enough of the glares, Malfoy, you owe me now.’

‘I don’t owe you anything,’ Scorpius snarled, ‘you even think about telling anyone about us and I’ll make sure you won’t be able to-’

‘Shh,’ Amelia said, taking Scorpius’ hand before he could finish the sentence. Jake smirked at him as Amelia led him over to where Jake or anyone couldn't listen to them talking. She smiled, ‘is it such a big deal if anyone knows about us? You’re so afraid of commitment.’

‘Not afraid of commitment. If that was the case, I probably would have cheated on you by now and I swear I haven’t,’ Scorpius said, pulling her in for another kiss as Amelia smiled at him again. They kissed for a while, leaning against the bookshelf, and then he pulled back, ‘I have to go but you do remember that we have a date tonight, right?’

‘Oh, yes, I’ve to dress fancy and meet you at eight. I didn't forget but... I have a lot of homework to do and...’ Amelia shook her head, stopping herself as Scorpius frowned at her. She kissed him, ‘and I will see you at eight, sweetie. Are you sure you can’t stay a while longer?’

‘I really have to go and get things ready for our date since we wont actually be leaving the castle, you know,’ he winked at her. Amelia smiled and kissed him goodbye, watching him walk away with his hands in his pockets, a habit he seemed to have got from his father.

‘James... James? James!’ Amelia yelled, tugging the bag further up her shoulder as she pushed past the people in the Gryffindor common room to get to her cousin.

James and a couple of his friends had decided to throw a party in the common room which was why it was so noisy and so busy. James turned around with annoyance on his face as Amelia pulled on the sleeve of his shirt. He saw her and his face softened as he held up a glass of firewhiskey.

‘Want some?’ he asked and Amelia shook her head impatiently.

‘I’m going to go and study in the library, alright?’ Amelia lied but James couldn't know she was off to meet Scorpius. James narrowed his eyes at her obvious lie and took her arm, leading her away from his friends. Amelia sighed, ‘James, it’s way too noisy here and I need peace and quiet.’

‘You’ve never missed a party!’ James said indignantly, ‘and you’re going to study? Amelia, seriously, is everything alright with you?’

Amelia let out a shrill laugh at her cousin, ‘James, everything’s fine! Just... have a good time, okay?’

Before he could say anything, Amelia waved at him and left the common room. She jogged down the corridor and up the stairs to the seventh floor. Finding an empty classroom and locking the door, she opened up her bag and bought out the dress she was going to wear tonight.

It was a dark green dress that came to her knees with a black belt across it, nothing special but a dress all the same. Amelia put on her jewellery and kneeled on he ground in front of one of the desks, opening up her make up kit and a mirror which she propped on the desk. Amelia applied her mascara, eyeliner, blusher and lipstick before putting her things away into the bag and stowing it under the desk. She sat down on one of the desks, waiting for Scorpius and swinging her legs.

A couple of minutes later the door opened and Scorpius came in, closing the door gently behind him. Before Amelia had a chance to say anything to him, he sprinted over, got her hand, pulled her towards the professors desk before hiding underneath it. Amelia followed suit, widening her eyes as Scorpius put a finger to his lips. Seconds later, the door opened and Amelia only saw a pool of light and a pair of feet that took a few hesitant steps into the room and then left just as quick.

‘Who was that?’ Amelia whispered as Scorpius slackened his body against hers and rested his head on her shoulder.

‘Well, I was near where we were going to have our date and I nearly got caught by some professors but I didn't see them so I don’t think they saw me. I ran away. I’m sorry for scaring you but I can’t have my father come down to Hogwarts again. I don’t want to see him,’ Scorpius said, shaking his head as he got out from under the desk and offered her a hand apologetically.

‘Scorpius, you haven’t seen your mother at all. You can’t lose your father too,’ Amelia said, taking his hand and letting him pull her up. Scorpius didn't answer her but she saw the little dent in between his eyebrows which meant he was trying not to answer back with something spiteful so she took the hint and didn't say anything more on the matter. Amelia wiped down her dress and did a little whirl for him, ‘do you like it?’

‘How’s it possible for you to look beautiful in everything you wear?’ Scorpius smiled and took her hand, ‘shall we go?’

Amelia nodded and let him lead her out of the room, looking down the corridor before he went. She left the bag under the desk so that she could come back and change before she went to the common room where no doubt everyone would be drinking or drunk. She wondered where they would be having her date and then chuckled a little as Scorpius led her to the room of requirement. It seemed so obvious now. Scorpius smiled at her chuckle and closed his eyes, getting the room he wanted.

‘Close your eyes,’ he said softly as a red door appeared in front of them. Amelia smiled and did as she was told, feeling his hand slip into hers. She heard Scorpius open the door and lead her into the room and then his hand slipped out of hers before he said, ‘okay... open your eyes!’

Amelia did as she was told and a gasp let loose from her mouth as she looked around the room that was, to put it simply, perfect. The lights were dim with candles lit around the room which made it so romantic especially with the red walls around them. There was a table for two with food already on it and a single candle lit the table. A sofa was a little further away with a table in front of it and some wine that Scorpius must have had trouble finding. It was amazing, romantic and just perfect.

‘I never knew Malfoy’s could be so romantic,’ Amelia muttered, walking over to the table as Scorpius pulled out the chair for her to sit in. She sat down and watched as he sat opposite her, ‘thank you so much for this. I love it so much!’

‘It was no problem. I wanted to do this since we haven’t really been on a proper date, you know,’ Scorpius said, looking at Amelia before he looked at the food, ‘so I managed to get this from the kitchen and did a spell to make sure it stayed warm. Only thing I could get was spaghetti and a chocolate box. Sorry.’

‘Sorry? It’s wonderful. I couldn't have asked for more,’ Amelia smiled and served him some spaghetti before serving herself.

‘Thanks,’ Scorpius smiled, taking a piece of spaghetti and wrapping it around his fork before eating it. Amelia also took a bite and they made sounds of appreciation at the same time, ‘this is amazing!’

‘Sure is,’ Amelia agreed, crossing her legs under the table as she ate some more, ‘so you really spent all of today working on this for me?’

‘Of course I did. I wanted you to have a date and it beats sitting in an empty classroom, right?’ Scorpius said, twisting some spaghetti on his fork and looking at it for a while, ‘so can I ask you something? It’s just that I was talking to... um... your cousin...’

Amelia raised her eyebrows and smiled, ‘you can ask me anything, Scorpius. I have many cousins. You’ll need to be a little more specific.’

‘Um... the one with the red hair, but I guess that could be any of your cousins. She has really bright blue eyes and must be part Veela since she’s pretty attractive,’ Scorpius said, grinning at his food and then looking up to see Amelia had stopped eating and was narrowing her eyes at him. He hurried on, ‘I mean, she’s... lots of people think...’

‘So you were talking to Dominique. How did you run into her? She’s not in any of your classes at all,’ Amelia said quietly, stabbing her spaghetti with her fork before Scorpius leaned over and covered her hand with his. He waited until she calmed down and started to eat again.

‘Well, I was with my friends when they started whistling to some girl across the lake and called her ‘Weasley’. I thought it was you at first but then I looked up and it was your cousin,’ Scorpius said, taking a pause to drink some of the wine and then he continued with a frown, ‘well, she walked past us and she looked at me and...’

‘And...?’ Amelia asked, leaning forwards without meaning to. Scorpius lifted his eyes to look at her, watching as she played with her necklace.

‘She just winked at me. I... you know what? Let’s not talk about that, okay? Can we just talk about each other?’ Scorpius asked, trying to get Amelia to stop frowning, ‘quick, ask me anything you ever wanted to know about me. I really mean anything.’

Amelia just stared down at her food, eating it absent-mindedly. Scorpius sighed, knowing he should have said nothing about it. He could have found out himself, he didn't need her to worry about anything. Amelia sighed, shaking her head and saying, ‘I can’t believe her.’

‘Amelia, I’m sorry I said anything about it. I don’t want to talk about anyone else. I should have never bought it up,’ Scorpius shook his head, pouring her in some wine.

‘Fine, you’re right. We’ll talk about it later,’ Amelia said, still frowning a little. She took a sip of her wine and managed a smile, ‘that’s lovely! Okay, how about you ask me anything you want.’

‘Alright,’ Scorpius grinned, eating his food as he thought of a good question, ‘ah, I’ve always wondered this. Why are you so close to Potter other than him obviously being your cousin. You’re closer with him than your other cousins.’

‘Well, do you believe in soulmates?’ asked Amelia and Scorpius just shrugged and nodded. She smiled, ‘well since soulmates can be either a person you’re in a relationship with, sexual or otherwise, it can also be how great you are with someone else. I would say that James is my soulmate. I mean, he just has to glance at me to know what I’m thinking and he’s helped me through so much. We hardly ever fight, although we have recently, but I still love him so much. He knows me better than anyone will ever know me.’

Scorpius was silent for a few seconds as they ate, the candle flickered briefly between them. Amelia glanced at him, wondering if that was a little too much. She should have just gave him a little description but she told him the truth which is what she hoped he would do too. Scorpius finally looked up, looking into her eyes seriously.

‘Right,’ he nodded, clearing his throat, ‘well, your turn to ask me.’

‘Okay,’ she nodded, scooping up some spaghetti and thinking before she pointed her fork at him, ‘ever been in love?’

‘Not until I met you,’ Scorpius answered instantly, ‘funniest thing you’ve done whilst drunk?’

‘James told me I was about to strip once but he stopped me,’ she laughed, shaking her head and then waited, wondering if it was a good idea to ask or not but decided to go for it, ‘would you like to meet your mother?’

‘No, I hate her,’ Scorpius shrugged, not looking at her, ‘furthest you’ve went with a guy?’

‘Um...’ Amelia blushed, looking down at her food, ‘well, it was here in Hogwarts actually. We were in a cupboard after second period and things got heated so we started taking each others clothes off but... well, I had to stop it. I just couldn't, you know, especially with him. He dumped me after that. Okay... um... I’m running out of questions for you.’

‘Who was the guy?’ Scorpius asked, smirking at the thought.

‘Not telling,’ Amelia laughed, shaking her head as she finished her food and put her knife and fork down. Amelia leaned her chin on her hand and watched as he finished eating too, ‘thank you so much for this.’

‘Thank you for being here,’ Scorpius smiled, getting up and out of his seat. Amelia watched as he went over to the sofa and picked up the wine and chocolates, ‘apparently these go great together. Want some?’

‘You know I’ll get fat and you won’t want me anymore,’ Amelia smirked, getting up and joining him on the sofa too. Scorpius shook his head at her as he poured in wine for both of them. Amelia sighed, ‘I’ll be all alone. Fat and single. At least my dad and James will be happy.’

‘They’ll have to stay unhappy because I’m not leaving you even if you are fat,’ Scorpius shook his head, leaning forwards and pressing his lips to hers for a second. He pulled back and looked at the chocolates between them. Scorpius picked them up and moved closer to her so that their thighs were touching, ‘which one do you want?’

‘Is there a sheet that tells you what’s in them?’ Amelia asked, looking down at all of the different sizes and shapes of the chocolate.

‘Where’s the fun in that? Just pick one and see if you like it,’ Scorpius said, putting the box on their legs and inspecting the chocolates for a second, ‘you don’t like dark chocolate but you love milk chocolate. So... you’ll like this one!’

Scorpius picked up a round piece of milk chocolate, allowing Amelia to inspect it. She smiled and let him feed her the chocolate, tasting it and wondering what it was she was eating. Scorpius leaned forwards, watching her face carefully for a sign.

‘Ah, caramel. Not my favourite but it’s good,’ Amelia said finally, taking a sip of her wine. She looked down at the box and after some consideration she picked out a chocolate for Scorpius before feeding him it. Scorpius shrugged, deeming it to be acceptable, as he picked out one for Amelia. She sighed and smiled, ‘I could sit here all night with you, you know.’

‘Just sit?’ Scorpius asked, feeding her the chocolate. Amelia chewed thoughtfully. She knew what he meant but she didn't respond with anything other than a little shrug. Scorpius smiled, ‘no pressure. We don’t have to, you know.’

‘Don’t you want to? Isn’t that the reason you did all this? Just so you can... get some action?’ Amelia chuckled at her own words, looking at him as he rolled his eyes.

‘I’ve never done something like this just to get a girl to sleep with me. I don’t need to try this hard actually. I did all this because I wanted to be with you, alright? Now, if you want to sit here and talk all night I don’t mind at all,’ Scorpius said, lifting the box of chocolates and putting it on the table. He shifted across the sofa, creating a distance between them, and put his legs up onto the sofa. He regarded her with his hands behind his head, ‘let’s talk.’

‘Merlin, Scorpius, how long have you been waiting?’ Amelia asked, smiling as she looked over his knees to his face. Scorpius sighed, resting his head on the sofa’s side and looking at the ceiling, not answering her. Amelia shifted over and leaned her head on his knees, ‘Scorpius, what’s going to happen to us when we leave Hogwarts?’

‘Well, we’ll get jobs and meet other people and start families and never see each other again,’ Scorpius shrugged, looking up at her and then he smirked as she narrowed her eyes at him, very Hermione-like. Scorpius leaned forwards and took her face in his hands, ‘what do you want to happen?’

‘Well, you moved out of your house and I think I’ll do the same but I don’t have enough money to live by myself. I’ll need to find a roommate, you know, maybe James. Merlin, that’d be so fun,’ Amelia grinned, playing with the hem of his shirt. She looked up at him, ‘I do want you in my future. I... I don’t want us drifting apart...’

‘You’re going to live with your cousin?’ asked Scorpius, frowning a little. Amelia opened her mouth, about to say something, but Scorpius interrupted her, ‘I mean, I can see why since you’re so close to him but... he’s still your cousin and he’s still a little against us. You know how awkward that would be, right?’

‘He’s not just my cousin. He’s my best friend, someone I can tell anything to, and he knows so many of my secrets from when we were young up until now. I don’t see why it’s such a big deal,’ Amelia shrugged, looking into the grey orbs that were his eyes, ‘and I think we’re all old enough to be mature about relationships, right?’

‘Amelia...’ Scorpius grumbled, looking down at her hands that were playing with his shirt. She stopped suddenly and stared at him, noticing the change of tone. Scorpius sighed, ‘why can’t I be the one you tell everything to, even secrets and even if something small or huge is bothering you. I’m your boyfriend, sure, but I don’t think we’ve ever been in a friendship stage. I can be your best friend and your boyfriend!’

‘Don’t try and compare yourself with James, okay? I love you both but you need to understand that I’ve known James since I was born and he has always been there for me. We, on the other hand, just got together this year but I still love you so much and we still have a lot of work to do in this relationship,’ Amelia said, shaking her head, ‘and are you honestly telling me that you would tell me your secrets, or if something’s really upsetting you?’

‘Well, I’m a Malfoy. We don’t tell others our feelings,’ Scorpius rolled his eyes as though that was obvious. Amelia just looked at him and they stared at each other for a second, sitting close enough that he could lean right in and kiss her if he wanted to. Instead Scorpius sighed, ‘I get it, alright? Potter has and always will be a little more ahead of me for you.’

‘I love you-’ Amelia started but Scorpius cut her off.

‘I know you do and I love you too,’ Scorpius said quickly and leaned in, giving her a small kiss before he stood up, ‘you know, we should probably go back to our common rooms now. I just have to clean up. See you tomorrow?’

‘This isn’t fair,’ Amelia muttered, crossing her legs and leaning back in the sofa, ‘I want to be here with you all night. Can we just forget about everything else?’

Scorpius didn't answer her nor did he even look at her. She watched as he walked over to the table they had dinner on and waved his wand so that the dishes disappeared and the candle blew out, leaving only a small candle burning on the table in front of her and a couple of other candles around the room.

‘Come here,’ Amelia said, but he still didn't look at her. She sighed and then smirked, ‘hey, you know how there was a rumour about there being a tattoo in between my chest?’

‘Stupid rumour, not true anyway,’ Scorpius muttered and Amelia swore she could hear him rolling his beautiful eyes.

‘Well,’ she said softly, grinning, ‘I could be lying... you could check if you really wanted to...’

‘Are you trying to be sexy?’ Scorpius asked, walking over to her and sitting down again. He leaned over and picked up his glass of wine, finishing it.

‘It’s not working, is it?’ Amelia sighed, sitting back in the sofa and groaning unattractively, ‘damn it! I can’t get my own boyfriend to sleep with me!’

‘Funny thing is that that line would work on probably any of the guys in this school,’ Scorpius said, casually. He glanced at her as she wrinkled her nose in disgust, ‘we don’t have to do it just so I stay here. I’ll stay and talk if you want.’

‘No,’ she shook her head suddenly, scooting closer to her and taking his face in her hands. Scorpius put his hands on her hips and looked right into her eyes as she said, ‘I really do want this. Right now.’

Scorpius searched her eyes, dazzled by the sheer blue that gazed right back at him. He leaned in and closed the space between their lips, starting the kiss off slowly, wondering how he was going to do this. He’d done it before but she, of course, hadn’t. After a few seconds, Amelia pulled back and he frowned, making her chuckle.

‘Just taking my jewellery off, don’t worry,’ she smiled and pecked his lips before taking her earrings and the rest of her jewellery off.

Amelia turned back to him and without a moments hesitation she pulled him closer and kissed him. The kiss was rougher than before and a lot more heated as Scorpius ran his hands through her hair, messing it up but knowing that Amelia wouldn’t care.

She felt his hands trailing across the zip on her dress suggestively and Amelia moved her hands to the buttons of his shirt, giving him his queue. His lips moved to her neck and she let out a sigh before going bright red at the sound. Scorpius didn't notice as he lifted her dress up and off of her with Amelia’s help so that she was just in her underwear. She managed to get his shirt off, their lips leaving each others for a second before they were right back at it.

‘The... the necklace,’ Scorpius muttered, his lips sucking on her neck as her back pressed into the sofa.

Amelia’s hand went to the necklace she was wearing, totally forgetting to take it off with the rest of her jewellery. She ignored the necklace, deciding it would ruin the mood if she even tried to take it off. It had almost become a piece of herself. Amelia’s hands travelled to his jeans where she felt a bump that made her gasp a little. Scorpius was about to stop and ask her what was wrong but she just managed to get his jeans off without any hassle.

They ended up spending the night there together, with a blanket over them that Scorpius magicked when Amelia seemed to fall instantly asleep afterwards.
