Chapter Seventeen
‘Once again, sweet Amelia,’ James said, in a voice that was not like his own, a little posh perhaps and Amelia just rolled her eyes at him. He looked up with a cocky grin illuminating his face. James swiftly knocked her king off the chess board and chuckled, ‘I win, as usual.’
‘Of course you do, James! Why do I even bother?’ Amelia said and with a flip of her hand, she turned the chess board to the side. All the kings pieces tumbled off the chess board and hit the ground, ‘I’m not playing with you ever again.’
‘But then I’d have to play with Lily or Albus and even you can beat them,’ James chuckled as Amelia stood up, brushing herself off. Lily, outraged, threw a pillow from James bed and it struck the side of James’ head but he only threw it back, although it didn't hit her.
‘You’ll just win again,’ Amelia shrugged and then stifled a yawn behind her hand. James waved his wand and the chess set packed itself up in a quick motion, ‘there really is no competition, Potter. Maybe you should play with someone who matches your abilities?’
‘Like who? My friends don’t play chess and Albus here is terrible at it. Lily just won’t talk to me and you, now your leaving me too. Thanks, Amelia, thought we were inseparable,’ James said and stowed the chessboard away into his trunk. Amelia watched him, knowing he was joking and how much of a drama queen he could be. James turned to face her, ‘well, never mind.’
‘You should get to bed,’ Amelia said, frowning as Lily held the book she was reading over her mouth to stifle a yawn. Lily just shrugged and turned onto her stomach and resumed reading.
‘So should you,’ James said and then paused, leaning on his bed post. He stared at Amelia, making her uncomfortable until she frowned at him with a curt “what?”. James shook his head, ‘you still haven’t talked to your parents yet.’
‘It’s nearly the Christmas holidays, I can talk to them when I get home,’ Amelia shrugged as James seemed not to believe her. He just shook his head slowly; the guilt trip, ‘don’t start with me, Potter.’
‘You better not ruin Christmas by fighting with your parents,’ James warned her and shook his head. Amelia crossed her arms over her chest in a defensive motion as James looked at her with warning in his eyes, ‘I think you should talk to them before hand.’
‘What you think isn’t always right, James,’ Amelia said and then looked for a distraction so that they could stop talking about this, ‘where’s Albus? I hardly ever see him around here anymore.’
‘Albus seems to be infatuated with a particular blonde in his year,’ Lily said, sitting up and she glanced at James, ‘she’s really pretty but Albus doesn’t want me talking to her. James, you’ve seen her! Tell Amelia about how pretty she is!’
‘Yeah, she’s quite... um, pretty,’ James said, the word sounded unfamiliar to his tongue. He looked up at Amelia and a look passed between them. James raised his eyebrows although he knew what that look was since he had grown up with Amelia. She obviously thought that James had helped Albus get the girl he wanted but when Amelia liked a boy, James kept her away from him. He couldn't help it though! James shrugged, ‘what?’
‘Nothing,’ Amelia said coldly and shrugged. Her eyes glared at James while Lily’s eyebrows raised, looking between them like it was a tennis match, ‘I have to go now.’
‘Amelia...’ James whispered but she ignored him and hugged Lily goodbye instead. Amelia said a bye to James and then walked past him. The door shut behind Amelia and James stared at the door, ‘bloody hell. It was easier trying to get something out of her when we were younger and now...’
‘Is this about your over protectiveness?’ Lily asked, hopping off the bed. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed at her brother, ‘you are a little over protective towards Amelia... your even more protective of her than you are of me and I’m your sister!’
‘I am protective of you,’ James said, frowning and then turning back to the door. He muttered, ‘but... I feel like I have to protect her from everyone. I know she can’t handle getting hurt and that’s all that will happen; she’ll get hurt and... I don’t want to see her cry.’
‘Seriously, James. Let her make her own choices,’ Lily sighed, walking over to her brother, ‘stop being an ass.’
‘An ass? How am I being an ass? I care for her, is that such a crime, Lily?’ James asked, turning to his sister in surprise. Lily crossed her arms over her chest and stared up at her brother, ‘go to sleep or something!’
‘If you say so, big brother,’ Lily said and gave James a hug. James, taken back a little since Lily never hugs him, wrapped his arms around her. Lily smiled as she walked out of the room, ‘see you in the morning.’

*Amelia’s P.O.V*
Amelia entered the empty classroom on the fourth floor even though it was after curfew. She usually went out after curfew but today she felt nervous for some odd reason. Amelia opened the door, looking around her for any professors or students. There was no one so she slipped into the room.
‘I hate having to meet you like this in secret...’ Scorpius whispered as Amelia let herself into the room quietly. She closed the door behind her, scrunching up her eyes as the door clicked shut.
‘If you want to tell my cousin about us then be my guest,’ Amelia muttered, turning to see him. Scorpius raised his eyebrows, not impressed with her sarcasm. Amelia sighed and walked over to him, ‘we’ll have to tell him eventually.’
‘Yeah and he’ll kill me, he won’t touch you,’ Scorpius mumbled, taking her hand and pulling her over to him, ‘I’m not afraid of Potter but I am afraid of your dad. It’s Fred Weasley, right?’
‘Yes, a.k.a the most protective father in the world,’ Amelia sighed, she loved her father but sometimes he could be over protective like James. Of course, who knew if her father was her real father? Amelia shook her head and noticed two butterbeer behind Scorpius, ‘is that for us?’
‘Of course, if you want it,’ Scorpius said, smiling. He leaned behind him and grabbed both of the bottles of butterbeer. He cracked them open, letting the lids fall to the floor. He handed a butterbeer to Amelia, ‘cheers to us... if there ever will be an us.’
‘To us,’ Amelia agreed and bumped her bottle with Scorpius’ before sipping her butterbeer. It glided down her throat smoothly, like velvet and she sipped a little more.
‘It’s annoying how I can’t even take you out to Hogsmeade because your cousin might see us,’ Scorpius said, sipping his butterbeer. He moved over a little on the desk he was sitting on and Amelia sat next to him, ‘I mean... I want to buy you presents, take you out and things like that!’
‘It’s the thought that counts,’ Amelia said, laying her head on his shoulder and took his arm.
‘It’s not just that, Amelia,’ Scorpius said, looking agitated, ‘I... I love you and everything is stopping us from being together and I just want you in my life but I can’t because-’
‘You love me?’ Amelia asked, cutting him off by pulling away from him and staring at him.
‘Uh... well, yes. We’re in our last year and we’re older now, Amelia. I’ve never felt like this with any other girl and I just know that... I love you, Amelia,’ Scorpius whispered, looking down into her blue eyes. She wore a little mascara but that was enough to make her blue eyes pop.
‘I... I love you too, Scorpius,’ Amelia whispered, she couldn't stop the grin that formed on her face. She had never been this happy to here those three words coming from Scorpius’ mouth.
Scorpius bit his lip, looking into her eyes. Of course, he was over the moon to have the same feelings he felt for Amelia being portrayed by her towards him. Amelia stood up and stood in front of Scorpius so they could see each other, eye to eye. She leaned forwards and Scorpius closed the space between their mouths by kissing her softly.
‘Scorpius,’ she whispered into his mouth.
Her hands entangled themselves into his blonde locks and Scorpius pulled her forwards. His hands went to her waist and he picked her up so that Amelia could wrap her legs around his waist. Scorpius moved his lips from hers in exchange for her neck. Amelia moaned as Scorpius bit her neck, leaving his mark.
‘I’m going to...’ Amelia whispered as Scorpius kissed her jaw line, ‘tell James... about us.’
‘You sure?’ Scorpius asked, leaning his head on her forehead. Amelia nodded, determined now and Scorpius knew her well enough to know that Amelia didn't give up on anything.
‘I’m telling him tomorrow... alone. It’s better if he gets angry at me and not you,’ Amelia said, shrugging. Scorpius was about to protest against her statement but she shook her head and said, ‘I meant, he won’t hurt me if I tell him. He’ll be angry but he would never hurt me.’
‘I want to help you with this,’ Scorpius said, ‘like I said, I’m not afraid of Potter.’
‘Scorpius, I can do this alone,’ Amelia said and kissed him again so that he couldn't retaliate. After a few minutes of kissing, Amelia pulled back and got off his lap, straightening her shirt and running a hand through her hair, ‘it’s really late.’
‘Are you tired?’ Scorpius asked, watching her sip the butterbeer, ‘I can walk you back to your common room, if you want.’
Amelia shrugged, she didn't want to leave but it was already so late. She walked over to Scorpius and moved the hair out of his eyes. His eyes were the shade of a deep misty grey, like pools of dark grey. Amelia pressed her lips to his gently, pecking him slightly.
‘We should go now,’ she whispered, taking his hand.
Scorpius nodded, standing up. He grabbed the two bottle of butterbeer and then took Amelia’s hand, ready to leave. They walked out of the room together and then started to walk down the corridor. What they didn't anticipate was that Professor McGonagall was also patrolling the corridors and spotted them. Her eyes zeroed in on the two bottles of butterbeer in Scorpius’ hand and then she noticed that he was holding hands with Amelia.
‘Miss Weasley! Mr Malfoy!’ Professor McGonagall called to them and strode over to the couple. Amelia and Scorpius jumped apart, letting go of each others hand as they saw Professor McGonagall. Their eyes widened in surprise and shock, ‘my office! Immediately!’
McGonagall strode away with big strides. Scorpius and Amelia glanced at one another but they said nothing and just followed Professor McGonagall. Their footsteps echoed down the empty corridor and Amelia felt her heart thud. Maybe this was one time too many that she got into trouble. Scorpius squeezed her hand once and then let go as they arrived into the office. McGonagall stood behind her desk while Amelia and Scorpius stood in front of her desk, staring at the ground. McGonagall waved her wand and the butterbeer flew out of Scorpius’ hand and landed on her desk.
‘It is three in the morning. Would you mind explaining to me, Miss Weasley, why you are out so late at night? And you, Mr Malfoy, why did you think it was acceptable to steal from the kitchens?’ Professor McGonagall asked, her mouth formed a thin line, nearly disappearing all together.
‘Sorry, Professor,’ Amelia said but Scorpius remained quiet.
‘Sorry doesn’t cut it anymore, Miss Weasley. I’ve tried every sort of punishment, I’ve tried letting you off but nothing seems to work. What else can I do?’ McGonagall asked her, her quiet voice impacted Amelia deeply.
‘Professor, I think you are overreacting,’ Scorpius said, looking up to look at Professor McGonagall.
‘Overreacting?!’ McGonagall turned her glare to Scorpius, ‘rules are rules, Mr Malfoy! I will be calling both of you parents down here and we can discuss it together. Now go straight back to your common room!’
Amelia and Scorpius glanced at each other, jaws open. McGonagall waved her hand and they turned and left her office. Amelia groaned as she closed the door behind her and Scorpius ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
‘Guess I’ll see you tomorrow with our parents sitting between us,’ Amelia said, annoyed but not at Scorpius. She was annoyed at herself. Amelia turned to Scorpius and pecked his cheek, ‘goodnight.’
Scorpius stared at her as she walked away. He didn’t want his dad to come to Hogwarts... especially not with Amelia in the same room as them. Scorpius groaned and went down to his dormitory, stopping in the corridor and punching the wall in anger.
This should be interesting, he thought.
